Gost effectiveness of crack treatment methods:A field study

In the United States,more than 94%highways are paved with asphalt materials and placing crack sealant materials has been a common pavement maintenance for *** sealing treatment includes the use of a router to create a reservoir on the intended cracks whereas crack filling is given without doing any modification to the crack *** the initial cost of crack sealing is higher,it is expected to have a longer service period compared to crack *** is little research on comparison of short and long term cost effectiveness between these two treatments using the real field cost data *** this study four test sites in Texas were treated with crack filling and sealing using the same sealant material and finishing *** effectiveness of both treatments was measured in terms of initial,annual average and life cycle cost based on the cost inputs during *** general,the results of this study indicated that(1)on an average approximately 45%initial cost increase was estimated with the two routing configurations of crack sealing;(2)material and labor cost is found to have the most significant effect on the higher initial cost of crack sealing compared to other associated costs;(3)annual average and life cycle costs have shown that crack sealing is more cost effective pavement maintenance compared to crack filling over a long period of time;(4)agency cost is observed to be reduced by approximately 24%with crack sealing treatment based on the35 year analysis period.

Asperity-based modification on theory of contact mechanics and rubber friction for self-affine fractal surfaces

Modeling the real contact area plays a key role in every tribological process,such as friction,adhesion,and *** between two solids does not necessarily occur everywhere within the apparent contact *** the multiscale nature of roughness,Persson proposed a theory of contact mechanics for a soft and smooth solid in contact with a rigid rough *** this theory,he assumed that the vertical displacement on the soft surface could be approximated by the height profile of the substrate *** this assumption gives an accurate pressure distribution at the interface for complete contact,when no gap exists between two surfaces,it results in an overestimation of elastic energy stored in the material for partial contact,which typically occurs in many practical *** issue was later addressed by Persson by including a correction factor obtained from the comparison of the theoretical results with molecular dynamics *** paper proposes a different approach to correct the overestimation of vertical displacement in Persson’s contact theory for rough surfaces with self-affine fractal *** results are compared with the correction factor proposed by *** main advantage of the proposed method is that it uses physical parameters such as the surface roughness characteristics,material properties,sliding velocity,and normal load to correct the *** method is also implemented in the theory of rubber *** results of the corrected friction model are compared with *** results confirm that the modified model predicts the friction coefficient as a function of sliding velocity more accurately than the original model.

Effect of production process on performance properties of warm rubberized binders

The study presents an experimental evaluation of performance properties of two different production processes of warm rubberized *** types of rubberized binder were produced through dry process and wet process and two of the available wax additives were added into the rubberized binders(i.e.,LEADCAP and Sasobit).Rubberized binders with wax additives were artificially short-term and long-term aged using the rolling thin film oven(RTFO) and pressure aging vessel(PAV) *** binder tests were carried out on the binders through the rotational viscometer(RV),the dynamic shear rheometer(DSR),and the bending beam rheometer(BBR).In general,the results of this study indicated that(1) the viscosity properties have been found to be similar between dry and wet processes,(2) the rubberized binders manufactured by wet process were observed to have the higher rutting resistance than those by dry process,(3) the wet process resulted in better performance in the fatigue cracking test than the dry process,and(4) the blending method was found to have little influence of stiffness properties.

In this study, a novel hybrid intelligent mining system integrating rough sets theory and support vector machines is developed to extract efficiently association rules from original information table for credit risk evaluation and analysis. In the proposed hybrid intelligent system, support vector machines are used as a tool to extract typical features and filter its noise, which are different from the previous studies where rough sets were only used as a preprocessor for support vector machines. Such an approach could reduce the information table and generate the final knowledge from the reduced information table by rough sets. Therefore, the proposed hybrid intelligent system overcomes the difficulty of extracting rules from a trained support vector machine classifier and possesses the robustness which is lacking for rough-set-based approaches. In addition, the effectiveness of the proposed hybrid intelligent system is illustrated with two real-world credit datasets.

Characterization of recycled crumb rubber modified binders containing wax warm additives

This paper addresses the laboratory experiment of performance properties of recycled CRM binders containing artificially aged CRM binders with wax additives. The warm CRM binders were produced using two wax additives （LEADCAP and Sasobit） and then shortterm and long-term aged using the rolling thin film oven （RTFO） and pressure aging vessel （PAV） procedures. The recycled CRM binders were aged through the RTFO and PAV pro- cedures. A set of Superpave binder tests were carried out on the binders through the rotational viscometer, the dynamic shear rheometer （DSR）, and the bending beam rheometer （BBR）. In general, the results of this study indicated that （1） the addition of longterm aged （LTA） CRM binder can significantly increase the viscosity of the recycled CRM binders as expected, （2） the wax additives in recycled CRM binders were still effective to improve the viscosity and rutting properties even after experiencing the aging process, （3） the CRM binders containing wax additives showed the higher rutting resistance compared to the control CRM binders, （4） the recycled CRM binder containing wax additives was found to have less resistance to fatigue and low temperature cracking, （5） wax warm additives into the recycled CRM binders seemed to have a significant role for cracking properties, based upon their substantial amount.

Recent Increased Warming of the Alaskan Marine Arctic Due to Midlatitude Linkages

Alaskan Arctic waters have participated in hemispheric-wide Arctic warming over the last two decades at over two times the rate of global warming. During 2008–13, this relative warming occurred only north of the Bering Strait and the atmospheric Arctic front that forms a north–south thermal barrier. This front separates the southeastern Bering Sea temperatures from Arctic air masses. Model projections show that future temperatures in the Chukchi and Beaufort seas continue to warm at a rate greater than the global rate, reaching a change of +4℃ by 2040 relative to the 1981–2010 mean. Offshore at 74°N, climate models project the open water duration season to increase from a current average of three months to five months by 2040. These rates are occasionally enhanced by midlatitude connections. Beginning in August 2014, additional Arctic warming was initiated due to increased SST anomalies in the North Pacific and associated shifts to southerly winds over Alaska, especially in winter 2015–16. While global warming and equatorial teleconnections are implicated in North Pacific SSTs, the ending of the 2014–16 North Pacific warm event demonstrates the importance of internal, chaotic atmospheric natural variability on weather conditions in any given year. Impacts from global warming on Alaskan Arctic temperature increases and sea-ice and snow loss, with occasional North Pacific support, are projected to continue to propagate through the marine ecosystem in the foreseeable future. The ecological and societal consequences of such changes show a radical departure from the current Arctic environment.

Micro-accelerometer Based on Vertically Movable Gate Field Effect Transistor

A vertically movable gate field effect transistor(VMGFET) is proposed and demonstrated for a microaccelerometer application. The VMGFET using air gap as an insulator layer allows the gate to move on the substrate vertically by external forces. Finite element analysis is used to simulate mechanical behaviors of the designed structure. For the simulation, the ground acceleration spectrum of the 1952 Kern County Earthquake is employed to investigate the structural integrity of the sensor in vibration. Based on the simulation, a prototype VMGFET accelerometer is fabricated from silicon on insulator wafer. According to current–voltage characteristics of the prototype VMGFET, the threshold voltage is measured to be 2.32 V, which determines the effective charge density and the mutual transconductance of1.545910-8C cm-2and 6.59 m A V-1, respectively. The device sensitivity is 9.36–9.42 m V g-1in the low frequency,and the first natural frequency is found to be 1230 Hz. The profile smoothness of the sensed signal is in 3 d B range up to1 k Hz.

Swarming caddisflies in the mid-Cretaceous

Swarming,as a special form of mating aggregation,is most noteworthy in insects of the orders Ephemeroptera,Diptera,and *** in extant trichopterans is well understood in terms of sex composition,specific mating behaviors,and functional morphological specializations of adults,but an exploration of the evolution of such aggregative behaviors is hampered by the dearth of available examples from the fossil record as well as the ability to reliably distinguish the few gatherings as the result of swarming relative to other taphonomic or behavioral *** we describe five new fossil species of caddisflies preserved in mid-Cretaceous amber from Myanmar,all preserved as large *** aggregations of these five new species can be positively identified as swarms based on morphological traits of wing shape,as well as the presence of particular forms of sexual *** of a phylogenetic reconstruction of both molecular and morphological data as well as ancestral-trait reconstructions and tip-dating analyses indicate that swarming was likely present in the Triassic as a feature of the trichopteran *** most Mesozoic insectivorous predators were diurnal based on morphological evidence,largely nocturnal caddisflies would have been freed from such *** phylogeny also shows a correlation between the rise of nocturnal bat predators from the Paleocene or early Eocene and the repeated loss of swarming from various clades of caddisflies,revealing the potential impact of bat predation on reshaping the behavioral landscape of Trichoptera during the Cenozoic.

Comprehensive studies identify motor neuron spectrum disorders including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS)as globally rising fatal disorders with the highest prevalence in aging populations,influenced by ethnicity and ancestry(GBD 2016 Motor Neuron Disease Colla borators,2018).While~10% of diagnoses involve a family history(fALS),most cases are considered sporadic(sALS).However,population-based studies suggest that even cases without a common index mutation impart heritability(Ryan et al.,2019),indicating a crucial role of rare and as yet unknown genetic denominators.

Effect of Using Israel Napier Grass in Feed Ration on Growth Performance of Local Chicken of Cambodia

This study investigated the effect of Israel grass in feed formulation on growth performance of local *** study was conducted from October 2023 until January 2024 in Kampong Chheutel institute of *** CRD(Completely Randomized Design)was used with 4 treatments and 4 *** local chicks were purchased from local famer at 1 day old and kept in whole pen by feeding commercial *** 21 days old the total 320 chicks were allocated into experimental *** 4 feed formulas based on the level of Israel grass added such as 0,5%,7%and 9%,were called T1(control),T2,T3 and T4 *** result showed that body weight gain,feed intake,ADG(Average Daily Gain)and FCR(Feed Conversion Ratio)in all treatments were not significantly different(p>0.05).However,there was strong correlation between living weight with carcass of al treatments,but no difference among carcass percentage of local chicken for all different diet in this *** conclusion,the Israel grass did not affect growth performance of local chickens and can be used to replace some expensive feed ingredient,such as rice bran.
