Deep learning based classification of sheep behaviour from accelerometer data with imbalance

Classification of sheep behaviour from a sequence of tri-axial accelerometer data has the potential to enhance sheep *** behaviour is inherently imbalanced(e.g.,more ruminating than walking)resulting in underperforming classification for the minority activities which hold *** works have not addressed class imbalance and use traditional machine learning techniques,e.g.,Random Forest(RF).We investigated Deep Learning(DL)models,namely,Long Short Term Memory(LSTM)and Bidirectional LSTM(BLSTM),appropriate for sequential data,from imbalanced *** data sets were collected in normal grazing conditions using jaw-mounted and earmounted *** to this study,alongside typical single classes,e.g.,walking,depending on the behaviours,data samples were labelled with compound classes,e.g.,walking_-*** number of steps a sheep performed in the observed 10 s time window was also recorded and incorporated in the *** designed several multi-class classification studies with imbalance being addressed using synthetic *** models achieved superior performance to traditional ML models,especially with augmented data(e.g.,4-Class+Steps:LSTM 88.0%,RF 82.5%).DL methods showed superior generalisability on unseen sheep(i.e.,F1-score:BLSTM 0.84,LSTM 0.83,RF 0.65).LSTM,BLSTM and RF achieved sub-millisecond average inference time,making them suitable for real-time *** results demonstrate the effectiveness of DL models for sheep behaviour classification in grazing *** results also demonstrate the DL techniques can generalise across different *** study presents a strong foundation of the development of such models for real-time animal monitoring.

Dietary experience alters predatory behavior of two ladybird species on tomato potato psyllid

The tomato potato psyllid,Bactericera cockerelli,is an invasive pest in Aus-tralia,which can cause severe economic loss in the production of Solanaceous *** an invasive pest,*** may also modify biotic interactions in Australian agricul-tural and native *** generalist predators in an area may have the ability to utilize invasive pest species as prey but this will depend on their specific predatory *** extent to which generalist predators learn from their previous dietary ex-perience(i.e.,whether they have used a particular species as prey before)and how this impacts subsequent prey choice will influence predator and prey population dynamics af-ter *** this study,one nonnative resident ladybird,Hippodamia variegata,and one native ladybird,Coccinella transversalis,were *** experience with *** as a prey species significantly increased preference for the psyllid in a short term(6 h)Petri dish study where a choice of prey was *** suppression of *** populations by experienced ladybirds was also observed on glasshouse grown tomato *** was presumably due to altered prey recognition by *** result of this study suggest the potential to improve the impact of biological control agents on invasive pests by providing early life experience consuming the target *** may prove valuable for developing improved augmentative release strategies for ladybirds to manage specific insect pest species.

Frost damage is one of the major concerns for crop growers as it can impact the growth of the plants and hence,*** detection of frost can help farmers mitigating its *** the past,frost detection was a manual or visual ***-based techniques are increasingly being used to understand frost development in plants and automatic assessment of damage resulting from *** research presents a comprehensive survey of the state-of the-art methods applied to detect and analyse frost stress in *** identify three broad computational learning approaches i.e.,statistical,traditional machine learning and deep learning,applied to images to detect and analyse frost in *** propose a novel taxonomy to classify the existing studies based on several *** taxonomy has been developed to classify the major characteristics of a significant body of published *** this survey,we profile 80 relevant papers based on the proposed *** thoroughly analyse and discuss the techniques used in the various approaches,i.e.,data acquisition,data preparation,feature extraction,computational learning,and *** summarise the current challenges and discuss the opportunities for future research and development in this area including in-field advanced artificial intelligence systems for real-time frost monitoring.

Viability of combining microalgae and macroalgae cultures for treating anaerobically digested piggery effluent

Algal phytoremediation represents a practical green solution for treating anaerobically digested piggery effluent(ADPE). The potential and viability of combining microalgae and macroalgae cultivation for the efficient treatment of ADPE were evaluated in this *** the ability of different locally isolated macroalgae species illustrated the potential of Cladophora sp. to successfully grow and treat ADPE with up to 150 mg/L NH_4^+ with a biomass productivity of(0.13 ± 0.02) g/(L·day) and ammonium removal rate of(10.23 ± 0.18) mg/(L·day) NH_4^+. When grown by itself, the microalgae consortium used in this study consisting of Chlorella sp. and Scenedesmus sp. was found to grow and treat undiluted ADPE(up to 525 mg/L NH_4^+) with an average ammonium removal rate of 25 mg/(L·day) NH_4^+ and biomass productivity of(0.012 ± 0.0001) g/(L·day). Nevertheless, when combined together, despite the different cultivation systems(attached and non-attached) evaluated,microalgae and macroalgae were unable to co-exist together and treat ADPE as their respective growth were inversely related to each other due to direct competition for nutrients and available resources as well as the negative physical interaction between both algal groups.

Fine-mapping and characterisation of genes on barley(Hordeum vulgare)chromosome 2H for salinity stress tolerance during germination

Feed- and feed additives-related aspects of gut health and development in weanling pigs

The development of new/different management and feeding strategies to stimulate gut development and health in newly-weaned pigs, in order to improve growth performance while minimizing the use of antimicrobial compounds such as antibiotic growth promotants （AGP） and heavy mineral compounds, is essential for the long-term sustainability of the pig industry. Factors including the sub-optimal intake of nutrients and energy, inappropriate microbiota biomass and （or） balance, immature and compromised immune function, and psychosomatic factors caused by weaning can compromise both the efficiency of digestion and absorption and intestinal barrier function through mucosal damage and alteration of tight junction integrity. As a consequence, pigs at weaning are highly susceptible to pathogenic enteric conditions such as post-weaning diarrhea that may be caused by serotypes of enterotoxigenic Escherichia coil Many dietary components, e.g., protein, fiber, feed additives and minerals, are known to influence microbial growth in the gastrointestinal tract that in turn can impact upon pig growth and health, although the relationships between these are sometimes not necessarily apparent or obvious. In a world climate of increased scrutiny over the use of antibiotics per se in pig production, certain feed additives are seen as alternatives/replacements to antibiotics, and have evolved in some cases to have important roles in everyday commercial pig nutrition. Nevertheless and in general, there remains inconsistency and variability in the efficacy of some feed additives and in cases of severe disease outbreaks, for example, therapeutic antibiotics and/or heavy minerals such as zinc oxide （ZnO） are generally relied upon. How does financial literacy impact on inclusive finance?

Inclusive finance is a core concept of finance that makes various financial products and services accessible and affordable to all individuals and businesses,especially those excluded from the formal financial *** of the leading forces affecting people’s ability to access financial services in rural areas is financial *** study investigated the impacts of financial knowledge on financial access through banking,microfinance,and fintech access using the Bangladesh rural population *** employed three econometrics models:logistic regression,probit regression,and complementary log–log regression to examine whether financial literacy significantly affects removing the barriers that prevent people from participating and using financial services to improve their *** empirical findings showed that knowledge regarding various financial services factors had significant impacts on getting financial *** variables such as profession,income level,knowledge regarding depositing and withdrawing money,and knowledge regarding interest rate highly affected the overall access to *** study’s results provide valuable recommendations for the policymaker to improve financial inclusion in the developing country context.A comprehensive and long-term education program should be delivered broadly to the rural population to make a big stride in financial inclusion,a key driver of poverty reduction and prosperity boosting.

African swine fever(ASF)is a contagious and lethal hemorrhagic disease with a high case fatality *** 2007,ASF has been spreading into many countries,especially in Europe and *** that there is no effective vaccine and treatment to deal with ASF,prevention is an important way for a country to avoid the effects of the *** is currently ASF-free but the disease has been reported in many neighboring countries,such as Indonesia,Timor-Leste,and Papua New ***,it is necessary for Australia to maintain hypervigilance to prevent the ASF *** this paper,we propose the use of fuzzy concepts to establish a fuzzy risk assessment model to predict the ASF introduction risk in *** the analysis,the international passengers(IP)and international import trade(IIT)are concluded as the two main ASF introduction factors based on transmission features and past *** the established fuzzy risk assessment model based on the analysis of the 2019 and 2020 data,the risks of ASF introduction into Australia are considered to be *** model further deduced that the Asian region was the major source of potential ***,in order to validate the effectiveness of the established fuzzy risk assessment model,the qualitative data from the Department for Environment,Food&Rural Affairs of the United Kingdom was *** the validation results,it has shown that the results were consistent when the same data is adopted,and thus proved that the functionality of the established fuzzy risk assessment model for assessing the risk in Australia.
