Background and Objective: Anma is a traditional Japanese bodywork therapy that has not been widely known and used in the West. There have been only a few Anma studies published in English journals. To study the effect of Anma (traditional Japanese massage) among participants who have neck and shoulder stiffness symptoms (so-called Katakori, in Japanese). Methods: The study participants consisted of seventy-seven (Study 1), thirteen (Study 2), and twenty (Study 3) adults with “Katakori” symptoms. The research design is as follows: (Study1) Randomized, Parallel-group, Controlled Trial. (Study 2) Crossover Clinical Trial. (Study 3) Randomized, Parallel-group, Controlled Trial. And we conducted Anma treatment for 45 minutes (Treatment) or rest in lying position for 45 minutes (Control). Results: In study 1, the symptom of “Katakori” was relieved after Anma treatment in Anma group (p d: 2.2). There was a significant interaction between the Anma group and the control group (p group and the control group (p = 0.022). In study 3, the symptom of “Katakori” was relieved after Anma treatment in the treatment group. There were no significant interactions between the groups in VAS and MBV values. Discussion and Conclusions: The study demonstrated that Anma therapy decreases “Katakori” symptoms while increasing MBV in the shoulder region.

Effects of lysedEnterococcus faecalis FK-23 on experimental allergic rhinitis in a murine model

In the current study, we sought to investigate whether lysed Enterococcus faecalis FK-23 （LFK）, a heat-killed probiotic preparation, attenuated eosinophil influx into the upper airway and had immunomodulatory activity in a murine allergic rhinitis model. Eighteen BALB/c mice were divided into three groups; the ovalbumin （OVA）-sen- sitized/challenged group, which received saline orally for 6 weeks （OVA group）, the OVA-sensitized/challenged group, which received LFK orally for 6 weeks （LFK-fed group）, and the non-sensitized group, which received saline for 6 weeks （saline control group）. Nasal rubbing and sneezing were monitored during the study. After the final challenge, interleukin （IL）-4, interferon （IFN）-y, and OVA-specific IgE levels in the sera and splenocyte culture supernatants were determined, eosinophilic infiltrate into the upper airway was quantified, and splenic CD4~CD25＋ regulatory T cells （Tregs） were examined by flow cytometry. We found that nasal rubbing was sig- nificantly reduced in LFK-fed mice compared to the OVA group on d 27 and 35, and sneezing was significantly inhibited by LFK administration for 35 d. LFK-fed mice had significantly less eosinophil influx into the nasal mucosa than the OVA group. There were no significant differences between the LFK-fed group and OVA group in the serum and splenocyte culture supernatant levels of IL-4, IFN-y, and OVA-specific IgE. Interestingly, the LFK-fed mice had a significantly greater percentage of splenic CD4＋CD25＋ Tregs than OVA group. Our results indicate that oral administration of LFK may alleviate nasal symptoms, reduce nasal eosinophilia, and increase the percentage of CD4＋CD25＋ Tregs in experimental allergic rhinitis.

Ethnopharmacological relevance:Cholestasis is an impairment of nomal bile flow and bile acids secretion,which are related to many transporters in ***-Zhi-Huang granule(YZH),a decoction of Yin Chin(Artemisia capillaris) and three other herbs,has been widely used in China to prevent and treat neonatal jaundice and cholestasis, which has engendered great clinical *** aim of the study was to investigate the preventive or therapeutic mechanisms of YZH on estrogeninduced rat cholestasis based on the hepatic 0atp2, Ntcp,Mrp2 and Bsep. Materials and methods:Starting 5 successive days after received subcutaneous injections of estradiol benzoate(EB,5mg/kg/d) once daily,rats were oral administrated YZH(3g/kg/d) for 7,14 and 21 days. Results:Rats that underwent EB -treated had elevated serum TBA and DBIL levels,which were reduced to 61%and 73%by YZH in 14 days, ***,EB caused hepatic necrosis, inflammation,hyperplastic cholangioles,phlebectasis and congestion,all of which were largely improved by *** abnormal distribution of Oatp2,Ntcp, Mrp2 and Bsep followed by necrosis and loss nuclei cells were observed in EB-treated rats’ liver,which was slightly less severe in YZH-treated rats’ liver. EB-treated caused a significant decreased expression of Oatp2,Ntcp,Mrp2 and Bsep(Oatp2:38±3.3%;Ntcp:35±7.4%;Bsep:21±2.1%;Mrp2:113±2.3%;P<0.05,n=5),but a significant increased expression of Oatp2,Ntcp anoMrp2proteins mass was observed after *** no significant change was seen in Bsep expression. Conclusion:In conclusion,there are two major mechanisms of the preventive or therapeutic effect of YZH during estrogen -induced cholestasis:(1) improvement of the localization of Oatp2,Ntcp, Mrp2and Bsep;(2) increasing of the protein mass of Oatp2,Ntcp and Mrp2.

Research Priorities and the Future of Alfalfa in Latin America

Agro-food and agro-industrial systems in Latin America must anticipate future trends and ensure permanent adjustment ofresearch priorities to the evolving global needs. Innovations should follow the logic of productive chains, which are highly dependentupon knowledge and technology. Agribusiness sector needs to reinvent itself for efficiently providing new products based on stricterquality controls, traceability, and greater diversification. In the region, alfalfa has an enormous potential to be cultivated for multiplepurposes other than just animal products, going from pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry to human consumption. No singleorganization or isolated group of scientists hold alone the capacity to deal with increasingly complex and dynamic productionsystems in order to efficiently compete in a globalized market. These challenges require an interdisciplinary approach, not only to adomestic level but also to an international one. The present paper proposed the constitution of a virtual alfalfa network platform forarticulating and guiding alfalfa research efforts in Latin America. The network will focus on identifying the most important needs forLatin America, promoting an active interaction among educational and scientific institutions through collaborative research *** platform comprises four main research axes: (1) efficient production (agronomy);(2) animal production (diversified feeds);(3)quality and innocuousness applied (human feeding);(4) novel products (pharmaceutical and cosmetics). During the initial phase, theBrazilian Agricultural Research corporation (EMBRAPA, Brazil) and National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA,Argentina) will jointly coordinate the network.
