Non-coordination in China′s Urbanization: Assessment and Affecting Factors

Urbanization is a comprehensive concept, a trinity process that population urbanization, economic urbanization and space urbanization, is based on the interactions and mutual influences among the in which, people are the central and leading players in this process, while economic activities serve as the driving force and space is the carrier-the physical or material setting as well as the product. So the coordination among these processes is crucial for a country or region＇s sustainable development. China is experiencing rapid growth of cities and a surge in urban population, with the basic national condition of many people and little land, which calls for a systematic study of the issue of coordinated urbanization from theoretical, methodological and practical perspectives. Based on the concept of urbanization and non-coordination of urbanization, this article built a quantitative method to identify and evaluate the urbanization and non-coordination of urbanization, and made an empirical analysis in China between 2000 and 2008. The results show that the non-coordination overall level of China＇s urbanization declined during the study period, because population urbanization, economic urbanization, and space urbanization exhibited different trajectories of change. This study also reveals that performance assessment system, household registration system, and urban land expropriation system, etc., are the main affecting factors. At the end, we put forward some suggestions to achieve sustainable development of China＇s urbanization from the aspects of improving the local government＇s obiective function, imolementing the urban plalming svstem, enforcing public particination asnects and so on.

Genes and genetics in eye diseases: a genomic medicine approach for investigating hereditary and inflammatory ocular disorders

Past 25 y have witnessed an exponential increase in knowledge and understanding of ocular diseases and their respective genetic underpinnings. As a result, scientists have mapped many genes and their variants that can influence vision and health of our eyes. Based on these findings, it is becoming clear that an early diagnosis employing genetic testing can help evaluate patients＇ conditions for instituting treatment plan（s） and follow-up care to avoid vision complications later. For example, knowing family history becomes crucial for inherited eye diseases as it can benefit members in family who may have similar eye diseases or predispositions. Therefore, gathering information from an elaborate examination along with complete assessment of past medical illness by ophthalmologists followed by consultation with geneticists can help create a roadmap for making diagnosis and treatment precise and beneficial. In this review, we present an update on ocular genomic medicine that we believe has tremendous potential towards unraveling genetic implications in ocular diseases and patients＇ susceptibilities. We also discuss translational aspects of genetic ophthalmology and genome engineering that may help advance molecular diagnostics and therapeutics.

Hydrogen sulfide intervention in cystathionine-β-synthase mutant mouse helps restore ocular homeostasis

AIM: To investigate the applications of hydrogen sulfide(H2 S) in eye-specific ailments in ***: Heterozygous cystathionine-β-synthase(CBS+/-) and wild-type C57 BL/6 J(WT) mice fed with or without high methionine diet(HMD) were administered either phosphate buffered saline(PBS) or the slow-release H2 S donor: GYY4137. Several analyses were performed to study GYY4137 effects by examining retinal lysates for key protein expressions along with plasma glutamate and glutathione estimations. Intraocular pressure(IOP) was monitored during GYY4137 treatment; barium sulfate and bovine serum albumin conjugated fluorescein isothiocyanate(BSA-FITC) angiographies were performed for examining vasculature and its permeability post-treatment. Visionguided behavior was also tested employing novel object recognition test(NORT) and light-dark box test(LDBT) ***: CBS deficiency(CBS+/-) coupled with HMD led disruption of methionine/homocysteine(Hcy) metabolism leading to hyperhomocysteinemia(HHcy) in CBS+/-mice as reflected by increased Hcy, and s-adenosylhomocysteine hydrolase(SAHH) levels. Unlike CBS, cystathionine-γ lyase(CSE), methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase(MTHFR) levels which were reduced but compensated by GYY4137intervention. Heightened oxidative and endoplasmic reticulum(ER) stress responses were mitigated by GYY4137 effects along with enhanced glutathione(GSH) levels. Increased glutamate levels in CBS+/-strain were prominent than WT mice and these mice also exhibited higher IOP that was lowered by GYY4137 treatment. CBS deficiency also resulted in vision-guided behavioral impairment as revealed by NORT and LDBT findings. Interestingly, GYY4137 was able to improve CBS+/-mice behavior together with lowering their glutamate levels. Blood-retinal barrier(BRB) appeared compromised in CBS+/-with vessels' leakage that was mitigated in GYY4137 treated group. Centralized Lung Nodule Management at A VeteransHospital Using A Multidisciplinary Lung NoduleEValuation Team(LNET)

Introduction: Lung nodules are frequently identified on imaging studies and can represent early lung cancers. We instituted the Lung Nodule Evaluation Team(LNET) to optimize management of these nodules by a lung specialist physician. All lung nodules identified by a radiologist prompted a direct consultation to this service. We report our initial experience with this process. Methods: This is a retrospective review of patients with lung nodules at a single institution from 2008 to 2015. Since October 2014, lung nodules >3 mm identified on computed tomography(CT) scanning of the chest generate an automatic consult to LNET from the radiology service. Demographic, nodule and follow up data was entered into a surveillance database and ***: There were 1,873 patients identified in the database. Of these, 900 patients were undergoing active surveillance. Consults increased from 5.5 to 93 per month after the start of the new consult program. Lung nodules were identified on 64% of chest CT scans. Prior to the direct radiology consult the average size of a nodule was 1.7 cm and 0.7 cm after. The overall time from initial nodule imaging to initiating a management plan by a thoracic specialist physician was 3.7 days. Conclusion: Assessment of lung nodules by a specialist physician is important to ensure appropriate long term management and optimize utilization of diagnostic interventions. A direct radiology consult to a specialized team of chest physicians decreased the time in initiating a management plan, identified smaller nodules and may lead to a more judicious use of health care resources in the management of lung nodules.

Aim:To have a better understanding of the expression and regulation of versicanisoforms in neural precursor cells (NPC) and ***:By immunocytochemistry,RT-PCR,and real-time PCR,we examined the tem-poral expression of versican in NPC isolated from embryonic d 16 rats as wellas in oligodendrocyte (OL) lineage cells induced to differentiate from NPC,which mimicked the oligodendrogliogenesis in ***:We found thatversican was constitutively expressed in NPC and their lineage cells,includingneurons,astrocytes,and *** addition,2 versican isoforms,V1/V0 and V2,were found to express at low levels in NPC,but at significantly higher levels inOL lineage *** peak expression of versican V2 was found at the oligo-dendrocyte precursor cell ***,the treatment of 2 pro-inflam-matory cytokines,TNF-α and IFN-γ,enhanced the transcription of versican V2in NPC in a dose-dependent manner,but showed no effect on V1/V0 ***:Taken together,our results demonstrate that versican,particularlythe inhibitory V2 isoform,is increasingly expressed in OL lineage cells inducedto differentiate from *** increase in versican V2 expression after cytokinestimulation implies the interplay between the injury-induced upregulation ofinflammatory cytokines and chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan-mediated inhibi-tion of axonal regeneration after central nervous system injury.

Treatment of Coats' disease: an analysis of pooled results

AIM: To elucidate the association of treatment modality to vitreoretinal fibrosis and traction retinal detachment(TRD) in Coats' ***: A PubMed search for Coats' disease with included studies describing eyes with clinical features and treatment course of Coats' disease. Binary logistic regression with fibrosis at presentation and treatment type as independent variables was performed to determine predictors of TRD historically(since 1921) and in the antivascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) era(since2007). Odds ratios(OR) with 95% confidence intervals(CI)***: Of 175 articles described 1183 eyes. Vitreoretinal fibrosis increased from presentation(5.4%) to follow-up(15.5%) and TRD increased from 0.44% to 3.9% at follow up. Laser was protective against vitreoretinal fibrosis(OR0.6, 95%CI 0.4-0.9) but TRD was borderline(OR 0.6, 95%CI0.3-1.1). Cryotherapy showed a higher association with TRD(OR 1.9, 95%CI 1.0-3.7) than with vitreoretinal fibrosis(OR 0.8, 95%CI 0.5-1.2). Similarly, intravitreal anti-VEGF alone was not associated with fibrosis(OR 1.1, 95%CI 0.6-1.8) nor TRD(OR 1.1, 95%CI 0.5-2.6) but the combination of laser and anti-VEGF therapy was protective [Fibrosis: 0.1(0.03, 0.35); TRD: 0.05(0.01, 0.23)] compared to anti-VEGF plus cryotherapy(P<0.001). Disease stage ≤2 B or ≥3 A was not associated with ***: Vitreoretinal fibrosis and TRD increase after treatment in Coats' disease. The combination of antiVEGF agents and cryotherapy may lead to higher risk for TRD. Presence of pre-treatment fibrosis is the highest risk factor for post-treatment worsening of vitreoretinal fibrosis and TRD.

Achievable degrees of freedom of MIMO two-way X relay channel with delayed CSIT

The previous work on interference alignment for multiple-input-multiple-output(MIMO) two-way X relay channel assumes perfect channel state information at the transmitter(CSIT), which is reasonable in slow fading channel. However, in fast fading scenario, this assumption is impractical. In this paper, assuming that each node has delayed CSIT, we study the achievable degrees of freedom(DOF) for MIMO two-way X relay channel in frequency division duplex(FDD) systems. Specifically, in the broadcast(BC) phase, we propose a new multiple-stage transmission(MST) scheme, which utilizes retrospective interference alignment for physical layer network coding(PLNC). We show that MST can achieve significant DOF gain and tremendous power gain over other schemes. When the number of antennas for each user, N, is smaller than the number of the relays, M, the time division multiple access(TDMA) scheme can only achieve an ergodic sum-rate increase by N bps/Hz for every increasing of 3 d B of signal-to-noise power ratio(SNR), while the proposed MST scheme can achieve an ergodic sum-rate increase by M bps/Hz.

Western Liaoning of northeastern China is world-renowned for the MesozoicJehol biota, especially for yielding many feathered dinosaurs, primitive birds, mammals and fossilangiosperm. This paper describes a complete specimen of a symmetrodont mammal with well-preservedhairs and soft tissue from the basal part of the Yixian Formation in the Sihetun area, Beipiao,western Liaoning. It is significant for understanding the morphology, osteology, phylogeny and lifehabits of Mesozoic symmetrodont mammals.
