Introduction:This study explored the incidence trends and spatial clustering of typhoid and paratyphoid fever(TPF)in Yunnan Province to provide scientific evidence for developing and improving prevention and control ***:Temporal trends were investigated by calculating the annual percent change(APC)and average annual percent change(AAPC),along with their 95%confidence intervals(CIs).The spatial clustering of TPF across Yunnan Province was examined using global Moran’s I and local indicators of spatial association(LISA)***:A total of 206,066 TPF cases were reported in Yunnan Province from 1989 to 2022,with an average annual incidence of 13.98 per 100,000 population and a case fatality rate of 2.5 per 1,*** greatest number of cases was reported during July and *** 25–34-year age group had the highest incidence,and farmers were prominently *** incidence in Yunnan Province showed a significant decrease and spatial *** 2005 to 2022,13 county-level cities/counties/municipal districts in 5 prefectures(cities)in Yunnan Province were identified as statistically significant H-H spatial clusters of TPF incidence.A total of 24 TPF outbreaks were reported in Yunnan Province from 2005 to ***:The incidence of TPF in Yunnan Province showed a significant decrease and spatial *** strategies should focus on highincidence areas,seasons,and populations to reduce the incidence of TPF.

Pertussis is an acute and highly contagious respiratory disease caused by Bordetella pertussis(***),which occurs in people of all ages and is most dangerous for young children,especially *** introduction of whole-cell pertussis vaccines(wPVs)in the 1950s dramatically reduced the incidence of pertussis worldwide[1].However,over the past two decades,many studies have reported the resurgence of pertussis in different countries[2].Epidemiological surveillance in Hubei Province over the last 3 years revealed a clear increasing trend in the incidence of pertussis during the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)epidemic.

Autumn migration routes and wintering areas of juvenile Chinese Egrets(Egretta eulophotes)revealed by GPS tracking

Background:The vulnerable Chinese Egret(Egretta eulophotes)is a long-distance migratory waterbird whose migration and wintering information is poorly *** study aims to identify the autumn migration routes and wintering areas of juvenile Chinese Egrets and determine the migration movement traits of this ***:Thirty-nine juvenile Chinese Egrets from the Fantuozi Island,an uninhabited offshore island with a large breeding colony of Chinese Egrets in Dalian,China,were tracked using GPS/GSM *** feathers from each tracked juvenile were collected for molecular identification of sex in the *** GPS locations,recorded at 2-h intervals from August 2018 to May 2020,were used for the ***:Of the 39 tracked juveniles,30 individuals began their migration between September and November,and 13 successfully completed their autumn migration between October and *** juveniles migrated southward via three migration routes,coastal,oceanic and inland,mainly during the *** migration duration,migration distance,flight speed,and stopover duration of the 13 juvenile egrets that completed migration averaged 5.08±1.04 days,3928.18±414.27 km,57.27±5.73 km/h,and 23.08±19.28 h,*** juveniles wintered in the coastal wetlands of Southeast Asia including those in the Philippines,Vietnam,and Malaysia,and only one successfully began its spring migration in June ***:This study newly finds that the oceanic route taken by juvenile Chinese Egrets,suggesting that the juveniles are able to fly over the Pacific Ocean without a ***,our novel data indicate that coastal wetlands along the East Asian-Australasian Flyway are important areas for both autumn migration stopover and the wintering of these juveniles,suggesting that international cooperation is important to conserve the vulnerable Chinese Egret and the wetland habitats on which it depends.

After coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),previously known as pneumonia of unknown etiology(PUE)and 2019 novel coronavirus(2019-nCoV),was first discovered in Wuhan City,Hubei Province,the Chinese government took measures to stop the spread of the epidemic nationwide and interrupted local transmission in China(1–2).Although there have been several localized outbreaks that were caused by overseas importation of the virus—including Heilongjiang,Jilin,Beijing,liaoning,and other provincial-level administrative divisions(PLADs)—these outbreaks have been stopped within two to four weeks and were limited in scope to less than ten cases or a few hundred cases for each *** the COVID-19 pandemic still uncontrolled globally,the threat of importing the virus continues unabated and still threatens China’s population,virtually all of which is susceptible.

Enterovirus A71 (EV-A71) is a significant hand-foot-mouth disease (HFMD) etiology. The inactivated EV-A71 vaccines were approved in China in 2016. However, the seroprevalence of EV-A71 after the vaccine application and its potential association with the EV-A71 epidemic in the population are rarely studied. In this study, we analyzed the incidence of EV-A71 infection and seroepidemiology in Guangzhou City, China. From 2019 to 2021, 167,920 clinically confirmed HFMD cases were reported in Guangzhou. In 6,868 enterovirus-positive samples, Coxsackievirus A6 and Coxsackievirus A16 were dominant genotypes, and only 3 EV-A71-positive samples were detected, highlighting the deficient epidemic activity of EV-A71. Microneutralization assay was performed on 1,000 representative serum samples. Notably, the seroprevalence and geometric mean titer (GMT) decreased significantly in 2020, and that in the surveillance result and other studies in Guangzhou. Furthermore, a moderate decline of GMT level was observed following the vaccination, but the seropositive serums were still detected for 49 months after second immunization, suggesting the long-term persistence of the immunity. Our seroepidemiology study revealed relatively higher neutralizing antibody activity in the susceptible population after the EV-A71 vaccine was adopted in 2016 in Guangzhou. It may be one of the reasons for the lower epidemic activity of EV-A71 in Guangzhou from 2019 to 2021.
