A natural scorpion toxin BmK 16 was purified for the first time from the venom of the Chinese scorpion Buthus martensii Karsch (BmK) by using combined gel filtration, ion exchange and reversed phase chromatography. The sequence of the N terminal 8 amino acid residues was determined by Edman degradation. Using the N terminal sequence as a tag, the database searching revealed a hit in the scorpion cDNA Bank. The sequence for N terminal 8 amino acid residues, molecular weight and amino acid compositions of BmK 16 were identical with the calculated values according to the first 64 residues' sequence of the precursor peptide alpha neurotoxin TX16 derived from the sequence of the cDNA AF156597 (EMBL). The sequence specific resonance assignment of BmK 16 was achieved and the intact sequence of BmK 16 was determined as followings: VRDAY IAKPH NCVYE CARNE YCNDL CTKNG AKSGY CQWVG KYGNG CWCKE LPDNV PIRVP GKCH. Furthermore, the results from the sequence homology analysis and the toxicity assays indicated that BmK 16 was an α like scorpion neurotoxin.

3-Alkyl-2-alkyliminooxazolidin-4-ones were prepared from a copper-catalyzed domino intermolecular nucleophilic addition of a-hydroxy-（or mecapto） carboxylic acid ester to carbodiimide and a followed nucleophilic substitution of the formed amino group to carboxylic acid ester. The reactions could be performed under convenient conditions and good yields were achieved in most cases.

Visible-light-responsive homologous heterostructure of oxynitrides constructed to boost charge separation and water splitting

Constructing type II heterostructures represents a widely recognized strategy for enhancing charge separation and photocatalytic efficiency,but it remains challenging to fabricate homologous heterostructures based on visible-light-responsive semiconductors,especially for popularly investigated （oxy）nitrides with low thermal ***,we synthesized a homologous heterostructure （denoted as YTON＿H） based on the oxynitrides of YTaO4-xNyand YTa *** heterostructure exhibits type II band structure alignment and intimate interface achieved through a magnesium （Mg） powder-assisted nitridation *** with widely reported heterologous heterostructures,the as-obtained YTON＿H homologous heterostructure could similarly exhibit enhanced charge separation as well as photocatalytic water splitting performance with respect to its counterparts(YTaO4-xNyand YTaON2).Meanwhile,detailed structural characterizations and spectroscopy analysis have been made to confirm the formation of heterostructure and promotion of spatial charge separation.

Intramolecular conjugate reduction-aldol addition reactions of β＇-oxoalkyl a,fl-unsaturated carboxylates were performed in the presence of copper catalysts generated in situ from copper salts, phosphine ligands and silanes. Moderate to good yields and high diastereoselectivities were obtained in 15 min to 3 h using bis[（2-diphenyl- phosphino）phenyl] ether as the ligand.

Synthetic macrocyclic host molecules always play an essential role in the establishment and development of supramolecular chemistry. Along with the continuous interests in the study of classical macrocycles, recent decades have witnessed the emergence and rapid development of the chemistry and supramolecular chemistry of novel and functional macrocycles. Owing to their easy availability, a self-tunable V-shaped cavity resulted from 1,3-alternate conformation, and diversified electronic features steered by the interplay between heteroatom linkages and aromatic rings, heteracalixaromatics act as a type of versatile and powerful macrocyclic hosts in molecular recognition and fabrication of supramolecular systems. Very recently, by means of engineering the bond connectivity or the recombination of chemical bonds within heteracalixaromatics, we have devised coronarenes, a new generation of macrocycles. In this concise review, macrocyclic and supramolecular chemistry of coronarenes are summarized in the order of their syntheses, structural features, molecular recognition and self-assembly properties. In the last part of this article, personal perspectives on the study of macrocyclic and supramolecular chemistry will also be discussed.

Selective hydrogenation of furfural to furfuryl alcohol is a great challenge in the hydrogenation field due to thermodynamic preference for hydrogenation of C=C over C=***,a novel Al2O3/C-u hybrid catalyst,composed of N-modified dendritic carbon networks supporting Al2O3nanoparticles,was successfully prepared via carbonizing the freeze-dried gel from spontaneous cross-linking of alginate,Al3+and *** obtained carbon-supported Al2O3hybrid catalyst has a high ratio （31%） of Al species in pentahedral-coordinated *** introduction of urea enhances the surface N content,the ratio of pyrrolic N,and specific surface area of catalyst,leading to improved adsorption capacity of C=O and the accessibility of active *** the furfural hydrogenation reaction with isopropyl alcohol as hydrogen donor,Al2O3/C-u catalyst achieved a 90%conversion of furfural with 98.0% selectivity to furfuryl alcohol,outperforming that of commercial γ-***,Al2O3/C-u demonstrates excellent catalytic stability in the recycling tests attributed to the synergistic effect of abundant weak Lewis acid sites and the anchoring effect of the carbon network on *** work provides an innovative and facile strategy for fabrication of carbon-supported Al2O3hybrid catalysts with rich AlVspecies,serving as a high selective hydrogenation catalyst through MPV reaction route.

Molecular interactions of a representative pyrrolidinium-based ionic liquid 1-butyl-l-methyl-pyrrolidinium bis（triflorosulfonyl）- imide （[BMPyrr][TFSI]） with dimethyl sulfoxide （DMSO） and acetonitrile （AN） have been analyzed in this work. Attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy （ATR-FTIR） and density functional theory （DFT） calculations are used in the investigation, while excess infrared spectra and two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy are used to explore the data in detail. It has been found that the molecular solvents can interact with TFSI- （mainly with S=O and weakly with S-N-S group）. AN interacts feebly with BMPyrr＋ as compared with the strong interaction of DMSO. The strength of the interactions depends on the electron donating ability of the solvent. Upon mixing, hydrogen bonds regarding C-Hs in cation and S-N-S in anion are weakened, while that regarding S=O in anion is strengthened. Among the C-Hs which are connected directly with the N of the cation, Cl-H is the main interaction site for both DMSO and AN. This means that Cl-H is the most acidic hydrogen in pyrrolidinium cation.

Facile Fabrication of Aggregation-induced Emission Based Red Fluorescent Organic Nanoparticles for Cell Imaging

A cyano-substituted diarylethlene derivative aggregation-induced emission （ALE） dye with two amino end-groups and 4,4＇-（hexafluoroisopropylidene）diphthalic anhydride were facilely incorporated into red fluorescent organic nanoparticles （FONs） via room temperature anhydride ring-opening polymerization under an air atmosphere. These obtained RO-HFDA FONs were characterized by a series of techniques including gel permeation chromatography, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, size distribution and zeta potential measurements, UV-Vis absorption spectrum, fluorescent spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Biocompatibility evaluation and cell uptake behavior of RO-HFDA FONs were further investigated to explore their potential biomedical application. We demonstrated that such FONs showed high water dispersibility, stable uniform spherical morphology （150-200 nm）, broad excitation band （350-605 nm）, intense red fluorescence （627 nm） and excellent biocompatibility, making them promising for cell imaging applications.

Influences of the Hydrophobicity of the Heme-binding Pocket on the Properties and Functions of Cytochrome b_5 Mutants

The mutation sites of the four mutants F35Y, P40V, V45E and V45Y of cytochrome b 5 are located at the edge of the heme binding pocket. The solvent accessible areas of the “pocket interior” of the four mutants and the wild type cytochrome b 5 have been calculated based on their crystal structures at high resolution. The change in the hydrophobicity of the heme binding pocket resulting from the mutation can be quantitatively described using the difference of the solvent accessible area of the “pocket interior” of each mutant from that of the wild type cytochrome b 5. The influences of the hydrophobicity of the heme binding pocket on the protein stability and redox potential are discussed.
