In this study, the corrosion behavior of Ni47Ti49Co4 shape memory alloy（SMA） was investigated in simulated saliva solution with the binary alloy Ni（51）Ti49 as a reference. The surface morphology and the chemical composition of the oxide films were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy before and after immersion in the test solutions, respectively. The results showed that the ternary alloy was less affected by the test solution,owning to the formation of passive layer composed mainly of the oxides of titanium and cobalt in several oxidation *** voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and potentiodynamic polarization measurements affirmed that the passive oxide film significantly improved the corrosion resistance of Ni47Ti49Co4 SMAs as demonstrated by the smaller corrosion current density, larger resistance and smaller capacitance. Consequently, alloying with cobalt, which has paramount importance in enhancing the passive layer, expands the use of Ni47Ti49Co4 SMAs in dental work as new nitinol alloys with high corrosion resistances.

Neuroendocrine differentiation in sporadic colorectal cancer has been recognized since decades, but its clinical impact is still controversially discussed. Detailed parameter analyses hint at the possibility that probablynot neuroendocrine differentiation itself, but its association with poor grade of tumor differentiation, lymph node metastases, distant metastases and other unfavorable features contribute to worse clinical outcome. However, other studies deny a relationship between neuroendocrine differentiation and prognosis of colorectal cancer. This review elucidates, whether new insights into the origin of neuroendocrine differentiation in the intestinal epithelium, its regulation by m TOR pathway components and its possible link to the intestinal stem cell compartment could determine a role of neuroendocrine cells as prognostic marker and putative therapeutic target in sporadic colorectal cancer.

BACKGROUND In fatal cases of meningococcal septicemia, bacteriological diagnosis may not be straightforward due to postmortem replication and relocation of endogenic microflora. In medicolegal practice, aside from routine autopsy and histopathology, also other diagnostic methods, such as microbiological tests,immunohistochemistry and polymerase chain reaction(PCR), are used to examine body fluids and *** SUMMARY We present the case of sudden death in a 2-year-old child. The patient died approximately 30 min after hospital admission before any routine diagnostic procedures were undertaken. Presence of whole-body rash and fulminant course of the disease raised suspicion of meningococcal septicemia. An autopsy was performed seven days after death when the body showed the signs of late postmortem decomposition. No etiological factor of septicemia could be identified based on macro-and microscopic findings. However, PCR demonstrated the presence of genetic material of group W Neisseria meningitidis in patient's cerebrospinal fluid and *** Microbiological PCR should be conducted postmortem whenever a specific etiological factor could not be identified with conventional methods.

Sex-related cardiovascular arrest is a rare event occurring typically among middle-aged men with cardiovascular risk.[1,2]The main etiologies of sex-related sudden cardiovascular arrest are acute coronary syndrome and subarachnoid hemorrhage and,to a lesser extent,chronic coronary artery disease and structural non-ischemic heart disease.[3]Coital angina that occurs during the minutes or hours after sexual activity represents<5%of all anginal attacks and it is rare in patients who do not have angina during strenous physical exertion.[4]Moreover,sexual activity is the cause of<1%of all acute myocardial infarctions.[5]Sudden death during sexual intercourse is reported with an incidence of 0.6%–1.7%.[6–8]The investigation of sudden death related to sexual activity may be difficult as it may be regarded as shameful or disgraceful to the family members and,especially to the remaining *** of rarity of epidemiological data,considerable bias in the investigation of sudden death related to sexual activity has to be expected.[9–11]Extramarital sexual activity with younger partner and unfamiliar setting seems to represent risk factor as well as excessive food and alcohol consumption.[7]

Alcoholic fatty liver disease (AFLD), a potentially pathologic condition, can progress to steatohepatitis, fibrosis, and cirrhosis, leading to an increased probability of hepatic failure and death. Alcohol induces fatty liver by increasing the ratio of reduced form of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide to oxidized form of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide in hepatocytes; increasing hepatic sterol regulatory element-binding protein (SREBP)-1, plasminogen activator inhibitor (PAI)-1, and early growth response-1 activity; and decreasing hepatic peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-α activity. Alcohol activates the innate immune system and induces an imbalance of the immune response, which is followed by activated Kupffer cell-derived tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α overproduction, which is in turn responsible for the changes in the hepatic SREBP-1 and PAI-1 activity. Alcohol abuse promotes the migration of bone marrow-derived cells (BMDCs) to the liver and then reprograms TNF-α expression from BMDCs. Chronic alcohol intake triggers the sympathetic hyperactivity-activated hepatic stellate cell (HSC) feedback loop that in turn activates the HSCs, resulting in HSC-derived TNF-α overproduction. Carvedilol may block this feedback loop by suppressing sympathetic activity, which attenuates the progression of AFLD. Clinical studies evaluating combination therapy of carvedilol with a TNF-α inhibitor to treat patients with AFLD are warranted to prevent the development of alcoholic liver disease.

Substance abuse by women of child-bearing age and fetal in utero drug exposure has increased in the number of infants born with health *** exposure to psychoactive substances can lead to neurological and neurodevelopmental deficits later in *** data concerning the effects of psychoactive drugs on fetal neurodevelopmental status are *** the neurodevelopmental consequences of prenatally drug-exposed children has become a pressing global *** aim of this review is to gather current evidence and information on neurodevelopmental outcomes of in utero drug exposure.A literature search was performed on the PubMed,Scopus,and Google Scholar databases using the terms“psychotropic drugs”,“neurodevelopmental consequences”,“prenatal drug exposure”,and“pregnancy”.Available studies on in utero drug exposure were reviewed and found to support the idea that some degree of health issues are present in fetuses and *** psychoactive substances have profound neurodevelopmental consequences,such as structural brain changes,poor attention span,Down syndrome,attention deficit hyperactivity disorder,autism spectrum disorder,imbalances in neurotransmitter levels,and many structural *** pervasive use of psychoactive drugs in women of child-bearing age is an important health *** scientific efforts are needed to investigate the effect of prenatal exposure to psychoactive drugs on children.
