Medications for common cold are used routinely in daily life， and most of these are compounded to be more effective for people suffering from common cold. The composition and quality of the coating， a common component of tablets， have been of great concern. In this paper， laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS)， with advantages of rapid， real-time， and in-situ analysis， was used for surface analysis of tablets with and without coating film for common cold. Firstly， the spectra of compound paracetamol and amantadine hydrochloride tablets (CPAHT) and compound diclofenac sodium and chlorphenamine maleate tablets (CDSCMT)， without and with coating film， respectively， were analyzed. Secondly， two kinds of tablets were investigated in-situ at depth to analyze the changes of atomic and molecular spectral line intensities under different number of laser pulses and verified using LIBS imaging method. Finally， the Ca and Ti elements in CDSCMT were analyzed by calibration free LIBS (CF-LIBS) to further verify the elemental content differences at different depth in the tablets with coating film. These results indicate that the LIBS technology can be used in fast， in-situ， depth， and multi-element detection for cold medication tablets.

Previous studies have shown some correlations between the optical properties of objects and their surface patterns. We fabricate tens of micrometer period gratings by femtosecond laser direct writing technology on polished nickel targets and measure their thermal radiation spectra at a temperature of 623 K by Fourier transform infrared （FTIR） spectrometry. The results show an obvious major enhanced peak in which the wavelength is slightly larger than the grating period. Surface plasmon resonance （SPR） and Kircbhoff＇s law of thermal radiation are applied to give this phenomenon a preliminary explanation. In addition, we utilized rigorous coupled wave analysis （RCWA） to simulate the absorption spectrum of the grating surface. The experiment results show good agreement with the simulation results.

The emergent light distribution of a new type of contact laser scalpel is measured in three different states using a light sensor. The relationship between the angle and the light intensity is analyzed. The results show that the strongest light is emitted from two sides and the front of the scalpel. The light from the front mainly plays a role of cutting. The light from two sides contributes to stanch the wound so as to remain a clear visual field during the surgery. It also helps to increase the cutting efficiency.

laser drivers are an enabling factor to inertial confinement fusion, because laser diodes must be used instead of flash lamps. We discuss the limitations of laser diode arrays and show what steps the industry is taking. The pump power requirements of large-scale projects such as LIFE or Hi PER are within reach of semiconductor laser diode *** light output powers per laser bars have been around 300 W per bar, as in the Jenoptik 940 nm bars previously used for pumping the Yb:YAG slabs in the Di POLE project. By redesigning the semiconductor laser structures 500 W per bar is now commercially available for 808, 880 and 940 nm pump wavelengths. The construction of one inertial fusion power plant will require an amount of semiconductor laser chips in excess of the current annual production by two orders of magnitude. This adds to the engineering task of improving the device characteristics a challenge to production *** the industry benefits from the recent boost in solid-state lighting that acts as a technology driver, cooperation between manufacturers will be imperative, and to this end we propose standardization efforts.

The effect of material surface morphology on the periodic subwavelength of nano-structures induced by a femtosecond（fs） laser was investigated systematically from the initial surface roughness, the different scratches, the pre-formed ripples, and the ＂layer-carving＂ technology experiments. The results of the comparative experiments indicate that the initial surface conditions of the target surface have no obvious effects on the spatial structured periods（SSPs） and the ripple orientation of the periodic nano-structures induced by a fs laser, which agreed well with the foretold present surface two-plasmon resonance（STPR） model. Furthermore, different shapes of nanogrids with high regularity and uniformity were obtained by fs-laser fabrication.

The periodic ripple structures on wolfram and titanium surfaces are induced experimentally by linear polarized femtosecond laser pulses at small incident angles. The structural features show a material difference in the s- and p-polarized laser irradiation. The interspace between the ripples increases significantly for p-polarized laser irradiation when it exceeds a threshold angle, and the ripples＇ periodicities are larger than the wavelength of the incident p-polarized femtosecond laser; however, no significant change in the period of the ripples is observed with increasing incident angle for s-polarized laser irradiation. To explain these phenomena we propose a resonant absorption mechanism, by which the experimental observations can be interpreted.

The Terahertz （THz） wave is a special electro- magnetic wave with frequency between 0.1 10THz （1 THz=1012 Hz）, which has been widely used in spec- troscopy, imaging and remote sensing. There are several THz wave sources based on ultrashort laser pulses, including photoconductor antenna, optical Dember effect, air-plasma and optical rectification. For THz generation from optical rectification, phase- matching condition between pump laser pulses and THz pulses has to be fulfilled to obtain a high con- version efficiency.

Few-layer graphene film fabricated by femtosecond pulse laser deposition without catalytic layers

The films of few-layer graphene are formed through laser exfoliation of a highly ordered pyrolytic graphite（HOPG）, without a catalytic layer for the growth process. The femtosecond（fs） laser exfoliation process is investigated at different laser fluences and substrate temperature. For fs laser exfoliation of HOPG, the few-layer graphene is obtained at 473 K under an optimal laser fluence. The formation of few-layer graphene is explained by removal of intact graphite sheets occurred by an optimal laser fluence ablation. The new insights may facilitate the controllable synthesis of large area few-layer graphene.

The transient dynamics of anisotropic properties of Ga As was systematically studied by polarization-dependent ultrafast time-resolved transient *** findings revealed that the anisotropy of reflectivity was enhanced in both pump-induced and probe-induced processes,suggesting an extraordinary resonance absorption of photon-phonon coupling(PPC)with intrinsic anisotropic characteristic in carrier relaxation,regardless of the concrete crystallinity and orientation of GaAs *** results,delivering in-depth cognition about the polarization-dependent ultrafast carrier dynamics,also proved the paramount importance of interaction between polarized laser and semiconductor.
