Robust interface and excellent as-built mechanical properties of Ti–6Al–4V fabricated through laser-aided additive manufacturing with powder and wire

The feasibility of manufacturing Ti-6Al-4V samples through a combination of laser-aided additive manufacturing with powder(LAAM_(p))and wire(LAAM_(w))was explored.A process study was first conducted to successfully circumvent defects in Ti-6Al-4V deposits for LAAM_(p) and LAAM_(w),*** the optimized process parameters,robust interfaces were achieved between powder/wire deposits and the forged substrate,as well as between powder and wire *** characterization results revealed the epitaxial prior β grains in the deposited Ti-6Al-4V,wherein the powder deposit was dominated by a finerα′microstructure and the wire deposit was characterized by lamellar α *** mechanisms of microstructure formation and correlation with mechanical behavior were analyzed and *** mechanical properties of the interfacial samples can meet the requirements of the relevant Aerospace Material Specifications(AMS 6932)even without post heat *** fracture occurred within the interfacial area,further suggesting the robust *** findings of this study highlighted the feasibility of combining LAAM_(p) and LAAM_(w) in the direct manufacturing of Ti-6Al-4V parts in accordance with the required dimensional resolution and deposition rate,together with sound strength and ductility balance in the as-built condition.

Quantitative analysis of laser-generated ultrasonic wave characteristics and their correlation with grain size in polycrystalline materials

Quantitative relationship between nanosecond pulsed laser parameters and the characteristics of laser-generated ultrasonic waves in polycrystalline materials was *** high energy of the pulsed laser with a large irradiation spot simultaneously generated ultrasonic longitudinal and shear waves at the epicenter under the slight ablation *** optimized denoising technique based on wavelet thresholding and variational mode decomposition was applied to reduce noise in shear waves with a low signal-to-noise *** approach for characterizing grain size was proposed using spectral central frequency ratio(SCFR)based on time-frequency *** results demonstrate that the generation regime of ultrasonic waves is not solely determined by the laser power density;even at high power densities,a high energy with a large spot can generate an ultrasonic waveform dominated by the thermoelastic *** is ascribed to the intensification of the thermoelastic effect with the proportional increase in laser irradiation spot area for a given laser power ***,both longitudinal and shear wave SCFRs are linearly related to grain size in polycrystalline materials;however,the shear wave SCFR is more sensitive to finer-grained *** study holds great significance for evaluating metal material properties using laser ultrasound.

Microstructure and mechanical properties of Mg-Zn-Y-Nd-Zr alloys

The microstructure and tensile properties of the as-cast and solution treatment Mg-4.5Zn-1Y-xNd-0.5Zr （x=0, 1 wt.%, 2 wt.%, 3 wt.%） alloys were investigated. The results showed that the microstructure of Mg-4.5Zn-1Y-0.5Zr alloy consisted of α-Mg, Zn-Zr, W （Mg3Y2Zn3） and I （Mg3YZn6） phases. With the addition of Nd, I-phase disappeared and Mg3Y2Zn3 phase changed into Mg3（Nd,Y）2Zn3 phase. When the content of Nd reached 3 wt.%, T phase, i.e., ternary Mg-Zn-Nd phase, formed. In addition, with the increase of Nd content in the alloys, the secondary dendritic arm spacing decreased, while the amount of intermetallic phases increased. For as-cast Mg-4.5Zn-1Y-xNd-0.5Zr alloys, after solution treatment, microsegregation was eliminated and the shape of eutectic structure of α-Mg＋W transformed from lamellar into spherical. The tensile strength and elongation of Mg-4.5Zn-1Y- 3Nd-0.5Zr alloy were increased from 219.2 MPa and 11.0% to 247.5 MPa and 20.0%, respectively.

Grasping Force Optimization Algorithm of Soft Multi-fingered Hand Based on Safety Margin Detection

The classical gradient flow optimization algorithm requires a valid initial point before starting the recursive algorithm,and the existing methods can’t guarantee that the initial values fully satisfy the friction cone constraints of contact point in the optimization process of gradient flow *** order to improve safety margin and prevent the finger from slipping at contact point,we present an iterative method of safe initial values with safety margin detection and develop a gradient flow optimization algorithm based on the safe initial ***,the safety margin is defined which more intuitively reflects the margin of the grasping forces at contact *** resulting safe initial values can be achieved by the detection of desired safety margin at each ***,the safe initial values are usually not optimal,even with the valid initial values,and it can’t always ensure that the finger contact force always satisfies the friction cone constraints during the *** is an effective way to eliminate the unreliable initial values in the optimization and obtain a safer initial values by increasing the safety *** transforming the safe initial values into an initial point of the gradient flow algorithm,the final optimized values of grasping forces can be generated efficiently by gradient flow *** examples of the soft multi-fingered hand indicate the effectiveness of the general solution of the force optimization algorithm based on safety margin *** method eliminates the shortcomings of the gradient flow optimization process caused by the initial value problem and provides a more accurate and reliable force optimization result for multi-fingered dexterous manipulation.

Experimental Study on Dual-Wavelength Distributed Feedback Fiber laser

Four distributed feedback fiber lasers with dual-wavelength operations were studied experimentally in detail. The laser characteristics of these distributed feedback fiber lasers （DFB-FLs） were investigated. The operation conditions for the dual-wavelength output are analyzed and presented. Through this study, the guidance of the design and fabrication of some dual-wavelength distributed feedback fiber lasers are provided.

Promote entanglement trapping in photonic band gaps

We study the entanglement trapping of two entangled qubits, each of which is in its own photonic band gap, based on the weak measurement and quantum measurement reversal. An almost maximal entanglement of the two-qubit system can be trapped by using a certain weak measurement strength. Furthermore, we find that the optimal entanglement enhancing is not only dependent on the weak measurement strength but also on the different initial states. The outcomes in our scheme are completely different from that without any measurement on the studied system.

Cobalamin(Cbl)-dependent radical S-adenosyl-L-methionine(SAM) proteins constitute the largest collection of the radical SAM superfamily that has hundreds of thousands of individual members. Many of these proteins are involved in the biosynthesis of pharmaceutically important natural products to catalyze chemically demanding reactions. In the biosynthetic pathway of chuangxinmycin(CXM), a unique indole alkaloid antibiotic with potent anti-infective activity, functionalization of the characteristic thiopyrano[4,3,2-cd]indole scaffold by regio-and stereoselective C3-methylation is believed to rely on a Cbl-dependent radical process, which, however, remained to be reconstituted biochemically. We here report the dissection of this enzymatic process, which requires the incorporation of Cxm8, a Cbl-dependent radical SAM protein, with Cxm9, a DUF5825family protein that shares no homology to any proteins of known functions. Cxm8 and Cxm9 function together by forming an unexpected heterodimeric complex that selectively catalyzes C3-methylation of the tricyclic indole-S-hetero ring system in a successive manner, achieving CXM and a recently identified, C3-dimethylated congener. Detailed biochemical characterization,isotope labeling, structural simulation and bioinformatics analysis rationalized the catalysis of the Cxm8/Cxm9 complex and particularly the necessity of the DUF5825 protein for C3-methylase activity. This is the first example that a Cbl-dependent protein acts with a partner to exhibit radical SAM activity.

Influences of KrF laser irradiation on the structure and luminescence of ZnO single crystal

In this paper, we investigate the laser irradiation of ZnO single crystals and its influence on photoluminescence. Our study shows that the photoluminescence of ZnO single crystals strongly depends on surface morphologies. The ultraviolet emissions of laser treated-ZnO under 200 mJ/cm^2 become stronger, whereas for those deteriorated by irradiation above 200 mJ/cm^2, the green emissions centred at 2.53 eV are significantly enhanced with a red-shift to 2.19 eV, probably due to the changes in the charge states of the defects. Enhanced yellow-green emissions are well resolved into four peaks at around 1.98, 2.19, 2.36, and 2.53 eV due to a shallow irradiation depth. Possible origins are proposed and discussed.

High Power Pulse laser Reflection Sequence Combination with a Fast Steering Mirror

We propose and demonstrate a new approach for a high power pulse laser reflection sequence combination with a fast steering mirror(FSM). This approach possesses significant advantages for lasers combining with a variety of output power, wavelength, pulse duration, repetition rates and polarization. The maximum number of laser routes participating in combination principally depends on the FSM’s adjustment time of the step response, lasers’ repetition rates and pulse duration. A proof-of-principle experiment is performed with two 2-kW level pulsed beams. The results indicate that the combined beam has an excellent pointing stability with rms pointing jitter^8.5μrad. Meanwhile, a high combining efficiency of 98.6% is achieved with maintaining good beam quality.
