The occurrence, mineralogy and geochemistry of eclogites in the *** area show that they were subjected to a high-pressure metamorphism together with the country rocks, but their petrochemistry and REE geochemistry show some difference from those of the country rocks. The geochemical characteristics of the eclogites are similar to those of both continental tholeiitic basalt and oceanic tholeiitic basalt. The rocks probably subducted to the upper mantle with the Dabie metamorphic complex. When elevated to the surface, they were subjected to different stages of retrogressive metamorphism.

Some 11 novel series of biological markers, aryl isoprenoids, have been found in Sunniland sedimentary organic matter (both oil and its source rock) of the South Florida Basin (USA). All of them have the same homologous key ions m/z 91+14n (n=0—10). In this paper, only one of these homologous series, 2, 3, 6-trimethylphenylisoprenoids, will be discussed organic-geochemically. Two new maturity indicators, ΣHⅠ/ΣHⅡ and ΣHB/ΣHA, have been put forward, and it is suggested that these novel biomarker compounds can be used as indicators of organic facies and maturity of sedimentary organic matter.

This paper mainly discusses 15 kinds of ichnogenus found for the first time in the study area from the water depth distribution, body size of trace fossils and the relationship between sedimentary environment and deep-water ichnofacies, based on the summarizing of the sedimentary character of deep-water slope environment in the study area. According to the relationship between the type of turbidite and the combination of trace fossils, 15 kinds of ichnogenus are divided into two types, transition type Zoophycos ichnofacies and deep-water type Nereites ichnofacies. The former is mainly distributed in the transitional area between proximal to distal area of turbidite and the latter in the distal area.

Wild aurochs(Bos primigenius)were once widespread across Eurasia and North Africa but became extinct around the 17th century[1].Aurochs are considered the ancestor of modern taurine(*** taurus)and indicine(***)cattle,which were independently domesticated within regions restricted to Southwest Asia and South Asia,respectively[2,3].Extensive gene flow from local aurochs to domestic cattle has been well documented in Southwest Asia,Europe,and Africa[3,4],raising questions about the mechanisms underlying both the domestication and dispersal of early cattle.

IN Permian floras of China, a dispute over the relationship among the Protoblechnum and other similar plants such as Compsopteris, Glenopteris and Supaia has been existing for a long time, and moreover it has not been completely solved up to now. Halle placed a few simple pinnate fronds from the Shihhotze Formation in the genus Protoblechnum and named them Protoblechnum Wongii Halle 70 years ago when he was studying the fossil plants from the Late Palaeozoic strata in Shanxi, China. He did not think forked or unforked fronds as an important dividing genus condition in discussing the distinction among Protoblechnum and other relative fossils. Zalessky alSO found some specimens similar to Chinese Protoblechnum while he studied the Permian fossil plants from Russia. However, he did not approve of

GEOCHEMISTY OF BICYCLIC ALKANES IN SEDIMENTS, COAL AND CRUDE OILS

By using GC-MS to analyze the extracts of source rocks, coal and crude oil samplesformed in different sedimentary environments in China, New Zealand and Australia, twenty-two compounds of five types of bicyclic alkanes have been dis covered in the samples. Thispaper makes an exposition of stereochemical structure, abundance and distributive features ofthese compounds and their relation to sedimentary environments and thermal evolution. Furt-thermore, it demonstrates how the abundance ratios of bicyclic alkanes to steranes and ter-panes, drimane to homodramane and the relative abundance of C_(15),C_(16),C_(12)-C_(14) series of bicyclic-alkane compounds can be used to judge and determine types of oil and gas forming environ-ments (the depositive environments of source rocks from which the oil and gas wereformed), characteristics of source rocks and degree of maturation.

This paper analyzed thiophenic compounds in Sunniland oils and source rock extractsfrom the South Florida Basin, USA using GC-MS, and compared them with those of oilsfrom shales. We found that oils derived from carbonates versus shales have different distribu-tions of thiophenic compounds. Used in conjunction with such other geochemical parametersas n--alkane, sterane and terpane compositions, thiophenic compounds will be a useful toolfor oil--oil and oil--source correlations.
