New findings of Changxingaspis(Xiushuiaspidae,Galeaspida)from the Silurian of Tarim Basin and Zhejiang Province,China

New discovery of the early Silurian fossil fish Changxingaspis(Xiushuiaspidae,Galeaspida),Changxingaspis nianzhongi *** ***,are described from the Tataertag Formation in Tarim Basin and the Kangshan Formation in Zhejiang Province,*** mainly differs from *** in the shape of the median dorsal opening that is transverse elliptic with a width/length ratio of about 3.0,the long lateral transverse canals extending to the lateral margin of the headshield,and the second lateral transverse canal with dichotomous *** of *** from the Tataertag Formation and *** from the Kangshan Formation provide direct evidence on the specific level for the correlation between these two formations,which further supports the Silurian fish-bearing red beds in northwest Zhejiang belonging to the Silurian Lower Red Beds(LRBs)rather than the Upper Red Beds(URBs).Additionally,as the first record of the Changxingaspis in Tarim Basin,it extends the paleogeographical distribution of this genus from the South China Block to the Tarim Block,providing new evidence to support faunal exchanges between these two blocks and the hypothesis of a united Tarim-South China Block during the early Silurian.

Understanding the paleoenvironment and phytogeographical history of the Tibetan Plateau,China relies on discovering new plant *** Qaidam Basin has long been regarded as an ideal‘field laboratory’to investigate the paleoclimate and paleobiological evolution of the northern Tibetan ***,fossil angiosperms from the Qaidam Basin are rare,and our knowledge of its paleovegetation is ***,we report fossil leaves and fruits of Betulaceae found from the Oligocene Shangganchaigou Formation of northwestern Qaidam Basin(Huatugou area).Comparative morphological analysis led us to assign the fruits to the Betula subgenus Betula and the leaves to Carpinus *** findings,together with other reported fossil plants from the same locality,reveal a close floristic linkage between the Qaidam Basin and Europe during the *** northern pathway of this floristic exchange may have crossed through the Qaidam Basin during the late *** floristic linkage may have been facilitated by the continuous narrowing of the Turgai Strait and stronger westerlies,which transported moisture and provided favorable climatic ***,fossil plants collected from the Qaidam Basin suggest that during the Oligocene this region had warm and humid deciduous broad-leaf forest,which differs from the region’s modern vegetation and indicates that the Qaidam Basin may have been a suitable region for these plants to flourish and spread during the Oligocene.

Silurian integrative stratigraphy,biotas,and paleogeographical evolution of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau and its surrounding areas

The Silurian palaeontology and stratigraphy of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau have been studied for more than100 *** the launch of the Second Tibetan Plateau Scientific Expedition and Research,it is necessary to update the summaries of the Silurian stratigraphy and fossil assemblages of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau and their correlation with its surrounding *** this study,we have selected 33 sections from the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau and its surroundings areas,summarised the available data in terms of stratigraphic regionalisation,lithostratigraphy,chronostratigraphy,and biostratigraphy,and divided the study area into four stratigraphic provinces:the Xizang-Western Yunnan-Western Sichuan Province,the KunlunQilian Province,the South China Province,and the Tarim *** general,the Silurian strata in the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau is more complete than those in other areas of *** studies of the vertebrate faunas,sporomorph assemblages,and brachiopod faunas of the study area indicate a closer geographical relationship between the South China,Tarim,and Indochina palaeoplates,than previously *** with the surrounding areas where Silurian strata have been extensively studied,the study of Silurian strata in the main part of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau is still in the preliminary *** the future,it is necessary to conduct research on the age,distribution,and resource potential of basal Silurian black shales to provide new directions for shale gas exploration and development in *** shallow marine strata of the middle to upper Silurian require further *** that the Silurian System in the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau is more complete,it has the potential to supplement and improve the study of the carbon isotope stratigraphy of the Silurian in China.

The Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau(QTP)is well known as the Roof of the World,the Third Pole and the Asian Water *** spans a vast area from the Pamir Plateau in the west to the Longmenshan-Hengduan Mountains in the east,from the Himalaya Mountains in the south to the Kunlun-Qilian Mountains in the *** stretches approximately 1,200 km from north to south and 2,500 km from east to *** did the QTP start to uplift?This is still controversial between early and late Cenozoic *** some scholars advocated its uplift since the India-Asia continental collision at about 65 million years ago in the Paleogene(e.g.,Ding et al.,2017,2022),and the others suggested its uplift since the Miocene(Zheng and Wu,2018).

A knowledge graph(KG)is a knowledge base that integrates and represents data based on a graph-structured data model or *** have made efforts to construct geosciencerelated KGs to overcome semantic heterogeneity and facilitate knowledge representation,data integration,and text ***,there is currently no comprehensive paleontology KG or data-driven discovery based on *** this study,we constructed a two-layer model to represent the ordinal hierarchical structure of the paleontology KG following a top-down construction *** ontology containing 19365 concepts has been defined up to *** this basis,we derived the synonymy list based on the paleontology KG and designed corresponding online functions in the OneStratigraphy database to showcase the use of the KG in paleontological research.

Discovery of Middle Pleistocene Mammal Fauna From Tangshan Karst Cave, Nanjing and Its Significance

The material reported in this note was collected from Huludong (Calabash Cave), a karst cave at the northeastern extremity of Tangshan Hill, Nanjing. The cave is located on the hillside to the south of the Nanjing-Hangzhou Highway near the west verge of the Tangshan Town, Jiangning County, 26km east of the centre of Nanjing (32°N and 119°E). The bottom of this cave is 85.9m above sea level, with a relative height of about 75m from the local highway. This karst cave developed in the Ordovician limestone assumes the shape of an east-westward extending calabash, about 80m long,
