As a universal pathogen leading to neonatal defects and transplant failure,human cytomegalovirus(HCMV)has strict species specificity and this has prevented the development of a suitable animal model for the pathogenesis *** mechanism of cross-species barrier remains elusive and there are so far no non-human cell culture models that support HCMV *** Chinese tree shrew(Tupaia belangeri chinensis)is a small laboratory animal and evolutionary closely related with *** investigated the susceptibility of primary tree shrew dermis fibroblasts(TSDF)to HCMV *** with a GFP-expressing HCMV virus resulted in green fluorescence in infected cells with the expression of IE1,UL44 and *** titers of cell-free viruses reached 10^3 PFU/mL at 96 hpi,compared to titers of 10^4 PFU/mL observed in primary human foreskin *** results suggested that TSDF was semi-permissive for HCMV *** TSDF model could be further used to investigate key factors influencing cross-species multiplication of HCMV.

Chikungunya virus(CHIKV) is an arbovirus transmitted by Aedes mosquitos in tropical and subtropical regions across the world. After decades of sporadic outbreaks, it re-emerged in Africa,Asia, India Ocean and America suddenly, causing major regional epidemics recently and becoming a notable global health problem. Infection by CHIKV results in a spectrum of clinical diseases including an acute self-limiting febrile illness in most individuals, a chronic phase of recurrent join pain in a proportion of patients, and long-term arthralgia for months to years for the unfortunate few. No specific anti-viral drugs or licensed vaccines for CHIKV are available so far. A better understanding of virus-host interactions is essential for the development of therapeutics and vaccines. To this end, we reviewed the existing knowledge on CHIKV's epidemiology, clinical presentation, molecular virology, diagnostic approaches, host immune response, vaccine development, and available animal models. Such a comprehensive overview, we believe, will shed lights on the promises and challenges in CHIKV vaccine development.

Dengue virus(DENV)is a single-stranded RNA virus transmitted by mosquitoes in tropical and subtropical *** causes dengue fever,dengue hemorrhagic fever and dengue shock syndrome in *** year,390 million people are estimated to be infected by four serotypes of dengue virus,creating a great burden on global public health and local *** far,no antiviral drug is available for dengue disease,and the newly licensed vaccine is far from *** large obstacle for dengue vaccine and drug development is the lack of suitable small animal *** some DENV infection models have been developed,only a small number of viral strains can infect immunodeficient *** this study,with biologically cloned viruses from a single clinical isolate,we have established two mouse models of DENV infection,one is severe lethal infection in immunocompromised mice,and the other resembles self-limited disease manifestations in Balb/c mice with transient blockage of type I IFN *** study not only offers new small animal models of dengue viral infection,but also provides new viral variants for further investigations on dengue viral pathogenesis.
