Edge Transport and Self-Assembly of Passive Objects in a Chiral Active Fluid

We previously established and characterized two insect cell lines(BmN-SWU1 and BmN-SWU2) from Bombyx mori ovaries. Here, we examined their differential susceptibilities to Bombyx mori nucleopolyhedrovirus(BmNPV) despite having originated from the same tissue source. Bm N-SWU1 cells were susceptible and supported high titers of BmNPV replication, while Bm N-SWU2 cells were resistant to Bm NPV infection. Subcellular localization analysis demonstrated that very few Bm NPV particles could be imported into Bm N-SWU2 cells. However, initiation of BmNPV DNA replication but not amplification was detected in BmN-SWU2 cells after transfection with vA4-VP39-EGFP bacmid DNA. Bm NPV transcription assays showed that late and very late but not early viral genes apparently were blocked in BmNSWU2 cells by unknown mechanisms. Further syncytium formation assays demonstrated that the Bm NPV envelope fusion protein GP64 could not mediate Bm N-SWU2 host cell-cell membrane *** together, these results indicate that these two cell lines represent optimal tools for investigating host-virus interactions and insect antiviral mechanisms.

Topological edge flow and dissipationless odd viscosity are two remarkable features of chiral active fluids composed of active *** features can significantly influence the dynamics of suspended passive particles and the interactions between the *** computer simulations,we investigate the transport phenomenon of anisotropic passive objects and the self-assembly behavior of passive spherical particles in the active spinner *** is found that in confined systems,nonspherical passive objects can stably cling to boundary walls and are unidirectionally and robustly transported by edge flow of ***,in an unconfined system,passive spherical particles are able to form stable clusters that spontaneously and unidirectionally rotate as a *** these phenomena,strong particle-wall and interparticle effective attractions play a vital role,which originate from spinner-mediated depletion-like interactions and can be largely enhanced by odd viscosity of spinner *** results thus provide new insight into the robust transport of cargoes and the nonequilibrium self-assembly of passive intruders.

Blends of polystyrene （PS） and polypropylene （PP） were prepared through melt compounding. With an increase of PS content up to 30 wt%, the tensile strength of PP/PS blends increased from 37.4 MPa to 42.2 MPa, although the blends were widely regarded as immiscible. The DSC results showed that there＇s slight decrease in melting temperature of PP, showing insufficient evidence for partial compatibility between PP and PS. Almost no variation of distinct characterization peaks were observed in FTIR spectra of PS/PP blends compared with those of neat PP and PS, indicating there is no chemical interactions between PP and PS. Since the morphology investigation showed a droplet structure as PS content was up to 30 wt%, the improvement of tensile strength could be simply considered as due to the reinforcing effect of dispersed rigid PS particles on the PP, combining with partial compatibility between them as evaluated by change of Cp at glass transition for both PS and PP. More interestingly, DSC and DMA results showed that the blending of PS and PP could lead to a substantial decrease of the glass transition temperature （Tg） of PP, and increase of Tg of PS. The annealing experiment was carried out to understand the change of Tg in PP/PS blends. It is believed that the compressive stress generated by the contracting PP should be the dominant mechanism for the Tg elevation of PS. On the other hand, the Tg decrease of PP is likely owing to the creation of a large amount free interface of PP and the dilatation of the PP phase resulting from the corresponding tension exerted by PS during cooling.

This paper presents new neutron-induced single event upset(SEU) data on the SRAM devices with the technology nodes from 40 nm to 500 nm due to spallation, reactor, and monoenergetic neutrons. The SEU effect is investigated as a function of incident neutron energy spectrum, technology node, byte pattern and neutron fluence rate. The experimental data show that the SEU effect mainly depends on the incident neutron spectrum and the technology node, and the SEU sensitivity induced by low-energy neutrons significantly increases with the technology downscaling. Monte-Carlo simulations of nuclear interactions with device architecture are utilized for comparing with the experimental results. This simulation approach allows us to investigate the key parameters of the SEU sensitivity, which are determined by the technology node and supply voltage. The simulation shows that the high-energy neutrons have more nuclear reaction channels to generate more secondary particles which lead to the significant enhancement of the SEU cross-sections, and thus revealing the physical mechanism for SEU sensitivity to the incident neutron spectrum.

Acceptance ratio method, which has been used to calculate the depletion potential in binary hard-sphere mixtures, is extended to the computation of the depletion potential of non-rigid particle systems. The repulsive part of the Lennard-Jones pair potential is used as the direct pair potential between the non-rigid particles. The depletion potential between two big spheres immersed in a suspension of small spheres is determined with the acceptance ratio method through the application of Monte Carlo simulation. In order to check the validity of this method, our results are compared with those obtained by the Asakura-Oosawa approximation, and by Varial expansion approach, and by molecular dynamics simulation. The total effective potential and the depth of its potential well are computed for various softness parameters of the direct pair potential.

Current-voltage electrical behavior of in situ microfibrillar carbon black （CB）/poly（ethylene terephthalate）（PET）/polyethylene （PE）（m-CB/PET/PE） composites with various CB concentrations at ambient temperatures was studied under a direct-current electric field. The current-voltage （l-V） curves exhibited nonlinearity beyond a critical value of voltage. The dynamic random resistor network （DRRN） model was adopted to semi-qualitatively explain the nonlinear conduction behavior of m-CB/PET/PE composites. Macroscopic nonlinearity originated from the interfacial interactions between CB/PET micro fibrils and additional conduction channels. Combined with the special conductive networks, an illustration was proposed to interpret the nonlinear 1-V characteristics by a field emission or tunneling mechanism between CB particles in the CB/PET micro fibers intersections.

In this paper,a study was carried out on the velocity profile of sediment-laden flows in open channels using a two-phase mixture model for two-phase *** governing equations for water-sediment mixtures were derived based on the two-fluid equations for solid-liquid two-phase *** drift velocity,a key variable involved in the two-phase mixture equations,was derived from the equation of momentum conservation for the solid *** drift velocity shows that the inertia of flow,particle turbulence,and collisions effect contribute to the dispersion of the sediment particles in turbulent *** the two-phase mixture equation,the vertical velocity profile of open channel flows was *** analysis indicated that the distribution of the velocity over depth of water-sediment mixtures,composed of two different phases,is significantly affected by the turbulence of water-sediment mixtures and the density ***,the velocity distribution is also affected by other factors including collisions between particles and particle turbulence as a basic feature of two-phase flows where interphase interactions inevitably mark their influence on the velocity *** of this approach with observations for a wide range of experimental conditions are presented in this paper,which show that this approach agrees well with the experiments.
