The fundamental properties of discrete elliptic solitons (DESs) in the two-dimensional waveguide arrays were studied. The DESs show nontrivial spatial structures in their parameters space due to the introduction of the new freedom of ellipticity, and their stability is closely linked to their propagation directions in the transverse plane.

In this paper the propagation of Lorentz–Gaussian beams in strongly nonlinear nonlocal media is investigated by the ABCD matrix method. For this purpose, an expression for field distribution during propagation is derived and based on it, the propagation of Lorentz–Gaussian beams is simulated in this media. Then, the evolutions of beam width and curvature radius during propagation are discussed.

A new Raman process can be used to realize efficient Raman frequency conversion by coherent feedback at low light intensity [Chen B, Zhang K, Bian C L, Qiu C, Yuan C H, Chen L Q, Ou Z Y, and Zhang W P 2013 Opt. Express 21, 10490]. We present a theoretical model to describe this enhanced Raman process, termed as cascade correlation-enhanced Raman scattering, which is a Raman process injected by a seeded light field. It is correlated with the initially prepared atomic spin excitation and driven by the quasi-standing-wave pump fields, and the processes are repeated until the Stokes intensities are saturated. Such an enhanced Raman scattering may find applications in quantum information, nonlinear optics, and optical metrology due to its simplicity.

In order to simulate the dynamical behavior of a lithium ion traction battery used in elec tric vehicles, an equivalent circuit based battery model was established. The methodology in the guide document of the ADVISOR software was used to determine the initial parameters of the model as a function of state of charge （ SoC ） over an experimental data set of the battery. A numerically nonlinear least squares algorithm in SIMULINK design optimization toolbox was applied to further op timize the model parameters. Validation results showed that the battery model could well describe the dynamic behavior of the lithinm ion battery in two different battery loading situations.

We demonstrate a diode-pumped master-oscillator/fiber-amplifier （MOFA） system consisting of a passively SESAM mode-locking Nd：YVO4 laser and a Yb-doped large-mode-area fiber amplifier, which generates total average power of 24.4 W at 1064 nm center wavelength, 91.5 MHz repetition rate, and 21.9 ps pulse duration. Power scaling limitations that arise from nonlinear distortions such as self-phase-modulation （SPM） and stimulated Raman scattering （SRS） have not been observed during the whole experiments.

Flow and heat transfer of a pseudo-plastic power-law fluid over a stretching permeable surface with the magnetic effect is investigated. In the boundary conditions,the nonlinear temperature jump and the velocity slip are considered. Semi-similarity equations are obtained and solved by bvp4c with MATLAB. The problem can be considered as an extension of the previous work done by Mahmoud(Mahmoud, M. A. A. Slip velocity effect on a non-Newtonian power-law fluid over a moving permeable surface with heat generation. Mathematical and Computer Modelling, 54, 1228–1237(2011)). Efforts are made to discuss the effects of the power-law number, slip velocity, and temperature jump on the dimensionless velocity and temperature distribution.

A new type of very low-frequency electrostatic wave in a dusty plasma,called the dust-drift waves,has been investigated with the three-component fluid *** dispersion of the waves depends strongly on the dust grain content in *** to their nonlinear interaction,the dust-drift waves can form two-dimensional dip-hump and multi-peak localized *** amplitudes of those structures decrease with the increasing dust content.
