Direct hydrocarbon identification in shale oil reservoirs using fluid dispersion attribute based on an extended frequency-dependent seismic inversion scheme

The identification of hydrocarbons using seismic methods is critical in the prediction of shale oil ***,delineating shales of high oil saturation is challenging owing to the similarity in the elastic properties of oil-and water-bearing *** complexity of the organic matter properties associated with kerogen and hydrocarbon further complicates the characterization of shale oil reservoirs using seismic ***,the inelastic shale properties associated with oil saturation can enable the utilization of velocity dispersion for hydrocarbon identification in *** this study,a seismic inversion scheme based on the fluid dispersion attribute was proposed for the estimation of hydrocarbon *** the proposed approach,the conventional frequency-dependent inversion scheme was extended by incorporating the PP-wave reflection coefficient presented in terms of the effective fluid bulk modulus.A rock physics model for shale oil reservoirs was constructed to describe the relationship between hydrocarbon saturation and shale *** to the modeling results,the hydrocarbon sensitivity of the frequency-dependent effective fluid bulk modulus is superior to the traditional compressional wave velocity dispersion of *** analysis of the inversion re-sults based on synthetics also reveals that the proposed approach identifies the oil saturation and related hydrocarbon enrichment better than the above-mentioned conventional ***,in real data applications,actual drilling results validate the superiority of the proposed fluid dispersion attribute as a useful hydrocarbon indicator in shale oil reservoirs.

Magnetotelluric data reveals subduction polarity and reactivation of the Mudanjiang suture zone,Northeast China

A data processing method for MAPR hydrothermal plume turbidity data and its application in the Precious Stone Mountain hydrothermal field

Hydrothermal plume is an important constituent of seabed hydrothermal circulation and is also one of the characteristics of active hydrothermal vents. Portable Miniature Autonomous Plume Recorders （MAPR） attached to a towed deep-sea instrument was used to search for hydrothermal plumes and hydrothermal vents. We introduced the basic principle of MAPR based on deep towing technology to detect plumes, then analyzed the factors affecting the quality of the MAPR data and presented a data correction method for MAPR, including instrument location correction, noise reduction processing, system error elimination and seawater background reduction. Finally we applied the method to analyze MAPR data obtained during the Chinese DY115-21 cruise on R/VDayang Iin the “Precious Stone Mountain” hydrothermal field on the Gala-pagos Microplate. The results provided a better understanding of the distribution of the hydrothermal activ-ity in this field, indicating the presence of a new hydrothermal vent.

Metallogenic model of the Shuangjianzishan Ag-Pb-Zn district,Northeast China:Revealed from integrated geophysical investigation

The Shuangjianzishan deposit in Inner Mongolia is a typical Ag-Pb-Zn deposit of the southern Great Xing’an *** reserves of Ag,Pb,and Zn in this deposit have reached the scale of super-large deposits,with favorable metallogenic conditions,strong prospecting signs,and high metallogenic *** paper reports a study involving integrated geophysical methods,including controlled-source audio-frequency magnetotelluric,gravity,magnetic,and shallow-seismic-reflection methods,to determine the spatial distribution of ore-controlling structures and subsurface intrusive rock for a depth range of<2000 m in the Shuangjianzishan ore *** objective of this study is to construct a metallogenic model of the ore district and provide a scientific basis for the exploration of similar deposits in the deep and surrounding *** used three-dimensional inversion for controlled-source audio-frequency magnetotelluric data based on the limited memory quasi-Newton algorithm,and three-dimensional physical-property inversion for the gravity and magnetic data to obtain information about the subsurface distribution of ore-controlling structures and intrusive *** seismic reflection results,regional geology,petrophysical properties,and borehole information,the geophysical investigation shows that the Dashizhai group,which contains the main ore-bearing strata in the ore district,is distributed within a depth range of<1239 m,and is thick in the Xinglongshan ore block and the eastern part of the Shuangjianzishan ore *** mineralization is spatially associated with a fault system characterized by NE-,NW-,and N-trending *** magnetic and electrical models identify large,deep bodies of intrusive rock that are inferred to have been involved in mineralization,with local shallow emplacement of some *** the subsurface spatial distributions of ore-bearing strata,ore-controlling faults,and intrusive rock,we propose two different metallogenic models

Time correction of the ocean bottom seismometers deployed at the southwest Indian ridge using ambient noise cross-correlation

Seismic monitoring using ocean bottom seismometers（OBS） is an efficient method for investigating earthquakes in mid-ocean ridge far away from land. Clock synchronization among the OBSs is difficult without direct communication because electromagnetic signals cannot propagate efficiently in water. Time correction can be estimated through global positioning system（GPS） synchronization if clock drift is linear before and after the deployment. However, some OBSs in the experiments at the southwest Indian ridge（SWIR） on the Chinese DY125-34 cruise had not been re-synchronized from GPS after recovery. So we attempted to estimate clock drift between each station pairs using time symmetry analysis（TSA） based on ambient noise cross-correlation. We tested the feasibility of the TSA method by analyzing daily noise cross-correlation functions（NCFs） that extract from the data of another OBS experiment on the Chinese DY125-40 cruise with known clock drift and the same deployment site. The results suggest that the NCFs＇ travel time of surface wave between any two stations are symmetrical and have an opposite growing direction with the date. The influence of different band-pass filters,different components and different normalized methods was discussed. The TSA method appeared to be optimal for the hydrophone data within the period band of 2–5 s in dozens of km-scale interstation distances. A significant clock drift of ~2 s was estimated between OBSs sets through linear regression during a 108-d deployment on the Chinese cruise DY125-34. Time correction of the OBS by the ambient noise cross-correlation was demonstrated as a practical approach with the appropriate parameters in case of no GPS re-synchronization.

Distinguishing Oil and Water Layers in a Porous Cracked Medium by Interpreting Acoustic Logging Data on the Basis of Hudson Theory

During surveys, water layers may interfere with the detection of oil layers. In order to distinguish between oil and water layers in a porous cracked medium, research on the properties of cracks and oil and water layers and their relation to acoustic logging rules is essential. On the basis of Hudson＇s crack theory, we simulated oil and water layers in crack-porous medium with different crack parameters corresponding to the well-field response. We found that in a cracked medium with high crack angle or low number density of cracks, compressional and shear wave velocities are sensitive to crack characteristics; further, these velocities are more sensitive to crack characteristics when the waves propagate through the water layer than when they propagate through the oil layer. Compressional and shear wave velocities increase with an increase in crack angle： in the water layer, the increase is approximately linear. On comparing the full waveforms observed in the oil and water layers, we find that the amplitudes of most waves are higher in the water layer. Among the considered waves, the Stoneley wave suffers maximum amplitude attenuation in the oil layer. The maximum excitation intensity for oil layer is greater than that for the water layer. These results can guide further cracked media logging field exploration work.

Gravity compression forward modeling and multiscale inversion based on wavelet transform

The main problems in three-dimensional gravity inversion are the non-uniqueness of the solutions and the high computational cost of large data sets. To minimize the high computational cost, we propose a new sorting method to reduce fluctuations and the high frequency of the sensitivity matrix prior to applying the wavelet transform. Consequently, the sparsity and compression ratio of the sensitivity matrix are improved as well as the accuracy of the forward modeling. Furthermore, memory storage requirements are reduced and the forward modeling is accelerated compared with uncompressed forward modeling. The forward modeling results suggest that the compression ratio of the sensitivity matrix can be more than 300. Furthermore, multiscale inversion based on the wavelet transform is applied to gravity inversion. By decomposing the gravity inversion into subproblems of different scales, the non-uniqueness and stability of the gravity inversion are improved as multiscale data are considered. Finally, we applied conventional focusing inversion and multiscale inversion on simulated and measured data to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed gravity inversion method.

ulti-azimuth three-component surface seismic modeling for viscoelastic cracked monoclinic media

In this article, a method of high order, staggered grid, finite difference was used to model snapshots of seismic wave propagation and multi-azimuth surface seismic records in viscoelastic cracked monoclinic media. The modeling results clearly show the anisotropy caused by the crack fill material and the viscoelastic wave field through the monoclinic media. Summarizing the regularity of seismic records for different azimuths, this study is a significant attempt to understand the wave fields propagated in real media and to propose a more rational theoretical model for the future.

Spatial Analysis of Gravity Data in the Basement of the Yaoundé-Yoko Area from the Global Gravity Model: Implication on the Sanaga Fault (South-Cameroon)

In this work, gravity anomalies from the XGM2016 global gravity model are used to study the basement of the Yaounde, Yoko area. The aim is to locate the characteristic tectonic faults and to characterize the geometry of the basement of these localities in order to improve the knowledge of the structural and tectonic basement of the study area. Numerical filters (vertical gradient, horizontal gradient, upward continuation) and Euler deconvolution were applied to the gravity anomalies respectively for qualitative and quantitative analysis. The results of the qualitative analysis allowed us to establish the lineament map of the study area;ranging from 0 to 35 km depth. For the quantitative analysis, the work is done in two parts: 1) highlighting the distribution of depths of geological structures in the basement of the study area;2) 2D1/2 modeling of geological structures to highlight the geometry of the basement of Yaounde, Yoko area. Thus, from five suitably selected profiles, the established models reveal the presence of eight blocks of geological structures of different densities and analyze their implications on the Sanaga Fault. Moreover, the models show that the positive anomalies characteristics for the Sanaga Fault reflect the anomalous character due to the strong dominance of the shale intrusion in the basement.

Fast local wavenumber （FLW） method for the inversion of magnetic source parameters

The current local wavenumber methods for the interpretation of magnetic anomalies compute the locations of geological bodies by solving complex matrices. Presently, such methods require to know the structural index, which is a parameter that represents the source type. The structural index is hard to know in real data; consequently, the precision of current methods is low. We present the fast local wavenumber （FLW） method, and define the squared sum of the horizontal and vertical local wavenumbers as the cumulative local wavenumber. The FLW method is the linear combination of the umulative local wavenumberand other wavenumbers, and is used to compute the locations and structural index of the source without a priori information and matrix solution. We apply the FLW method to synthetic magnetic anomalies, and the results suggest that the FLW method is insensitive to background and oblique magnetization. Next, we apply the FLW method to real magnetic data to obtain the location and structural index of the source.
