New insight into the origin and evolution of the flora and fauna of Hainan Island, China

The origin of the biota of Hainan Island, China, remains a fundamental scientific problem. Comparative studies on the biota, geological tectonics, and paleomagnetism proposed that during the Eocene, Hainan Island connected Vietnam and Guangxi, and then moved to the southeast to reach its present location. This review mainly discusses its biota origin from molecular phylogeny and palaeobotanical research. The formation and evolution of the biological groups of Hainan Island were identified via research on their genomes, phylogeny, and molecular biogeography. This research showed that the genera and species that appeared and diverged early in their evolution(i.e., before the Miocene) can be explained by the land connection between Hainan Island, Vietnam, and Guangxi during the Eocene-Oligocene. According to Southeast Asian tectonic theory, in the Middle Miocene(at about 15 million years ago), Hainan Island had moved to its present position. The population and genetic divergence of species with late divergence times(after 15 Ma) can be reasonably explained by the close proximity(or land connection) between Hainan Island and the Leizhou Peninsula, enabling genetic communication between Hainan Island and the Chinese mainland, but have exceptional cases. Conclusions have been obtained through palaeobotanical studies, showing that in the Eocene-Oligocene period, southwest China and Hainan Island had subtropical vegetation and flora. However, the fossil group in southeast China(in Maoming, near present-day Hainan Island) in the Late Eocene indicated a tropical rainforest vegetation and flora. This suggests that in the Paleogene, Hainan Island may have been located near or on the southwest border of Guangxi and northern Vietnam, rather than in its present location. The floristic division of the flora of Hainan Island basically presents a northeast-southwest inclined distribution pattern. The Midgut Bacterial flora of laboratory-Reared Hard Ticks, Haemaphysalis longicornis, Hyalomma asiaticum, and Rhipicephalus haemaphysaloides

Ixodid ticks play an important role in the transmission of a variety of zoonoses of viral, bacterial and protozoan origin, and they also harbor a wealth of microorganisms. To gain more detailed insights into the potential interactions between bacterial flora and tick-borne pathogens, we investigated the midgut bacterial flora of laboratory-reared Haemaphysalis longicornis, Hyalomma asiaticum and Rhipicephalus haemaphysaloides. Based on morphological, biochemical, and 16 S rDNA sequencing results, we identified 15 species belonging to 12 genera in the midgut of the three ticks. The bacterial communities were similar to those found in other studies of hematophagous arthropods. Kocuria sp. was the most frequently isolated species and its 16 S rDNA gene sequence was very similar to Kocuria koreensis P31 T. To our knowledge, this is the first report of the bacterial flora of tick midguts and the results show that there were many different bacterial species in each tick species. Among the most common genera, there may have been a novel species in the genus Kocuria. The results might be the first step for looking for different aspects of the pathogen and tick interaction.

Integrating lipidomics and gut microbiota to study the anti-hyperlipidemia effect of Sargentodoxae Caulis extract

Evaluation of the therapeutic significance of Glehniae Radix polysaccharides on the ulcerative colitis through DSS-induced rat model

Glehniae Radix has a wide range of pharmaceutical applications， and research on its main components has mainly focused on coumarins， alkaloids， lignans， and flavonoids， while neglecting the research on polysaccharides. Literature reports and our previous studies have shown that polysaccharides have certain therapeutic significance in immune regulation， antioxidant， anti-inflammatory and other aspects. Herein， the rat model of ulcerative colitis (UC) was established to evaluate the anti-inflammatory efficacy of the prepared Glehniae Radix polysaccharide (GLP) from the perspectives of inflammatory factors， intestinal tissue morphology， and microflora changes. The polysaccharides are mainly composed of galacturonic acid， rhamnose， glucose， galactose， and arabinose in molar ratios of 1.4:9.2:33.3:2.5:2.9， and GLP could downregulate the expression pro-inflammatory factors (interleukin-6， tumor necrosis factor-α， and interferon-γ) and significantly upregulate the expression of anti-inflammatory factor (interleukin-10). In addition， Glehniae Radix aqueous extract (GLA)， GLP with low dosage (GLPL) and GLP with high dosage (GLPH) could increase the number of goblet cells， enhance the integrity of crypt structure， and reverse the status of inflammatory infiltrating cells. Moreover， GLA and GLPH could upregulate Lactobacillus and Lachnoclostridium in UC rats， and appropriately downregulate Lachnospiraceae＿NK4A136＿group， thereby optimizing the proportion of bacterial flora and improving the intestinal microbial environment. Our findings not only be valuable as theoretical materials for the further clinical applications of GLP， but the identified biomarkers and metabolic pathways also provide new clues for the diagnosis of UC.

背景:运动对肠道菌群的调节与人体健康密切相关,但肠道菌群涉及多方面因素影响,国内外研究尚缺乏有关运动对大学生肠道菌群影响的较为一致的证据。目的:探讨运动对大学生肠道菌群多样性和物种组成的影响。方法:通过系统检索PubMed、Web of Science、Embase、Medline、Cochrane Library、中国知网、万方、维普数据库,筛选后纳入8篇实证研究,对其采用半定量的方法进行分析。结果与结论:①在运动改变大学生肠道菌群物种多样性方面,高强度间歇训练和太极拳运动均能显著提升大学生肠道菌群的物种多样性,而有氧运动对大学生肠道菌群多样性的提升效果不显著;②在运动影响肠道菌群物种组成方面,3种运动方式均能显著改变大学生肠道中菌群的组成结构,可以提高瘤胃球菌、普氏粪杆菌、布劳提亚菌等有益菌的丰度,降低埃希氏菌属等有害菌的丰度;相较于高强度间歇训练,有氧运动和太极拳运动引起了更多有益菌丰度的提升;③除肠道菌群特征的变化外,运动还可以改善大学生体成分、心肺功能以及执行功能等,这些健康效益与运动引起的菌群变化密切相关,这些菌群可通过代谢调节、屏障功能以及神经调节对机体产生健康效益;④虽然目前已有研究证实了运动与肠道菌群存在关联,但运动影响肠道菌群的机制尚未明确,同时定位与宿主健康相关的菌群是未来以肠道菌群为治疗靶点的关键,这些均值得学者进一步关注和探究。

背景:肠道菌群是位于人体胃肠道中的一种多样化和动态的微生物群落总称,对维持人体免疫和健康有着至关重要的作用。近年提出“肠-肺轴”概念,提示肠道菌群与肺密切相关,且运动可通过维持肠道菌群平衡调节呼吸系统疾病。目的:综述了肠道菌群与肺炎、肺癌、哮喘病和慢性肺阻塞疾病等不同呼吸系统疾病的关系、不同运动方式对肠道菌群和呼吸系统疾病的影响,为深入探讨运动调控肠道菌群在呼吸系统疾病中的作用机制提供新的思路。方法:检索1944-2024年间CNKI和PubMed数据库相关文献,中文检索词包括“肠道菌群、肠道细菌、呼吸系统疾病、肺炎、肺癌、哮喘病和慢性肺阻塞疾病、有氧运动、抗阻运动”等;英文检索词包括“Intestinal flora,Gut bacteria,Respiratory illness,Pneumonia,Lung cancer,Asthma,Chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases,Aerobic exercise、Resistance training”等,根据纳入和排除标准选择101篇文献进行归纳总结。结果与结论:①肠道菌群在肺炎、肺癌、哮喘病和慢性肺阻塞疾病等多种呼吸系统疾病中发挥着重要的调节作用。②不同运动方式与肠道菌群密切相关:有氧运动可通过改善胰岛素敏感性、增加菌群多样性和抑制全身慢性炎症在肠道菌群的调控中发挥有益效应;抗阻运动可降低肠黏膜通透性并促进短链脂肪酸的产生;有氧联合抗阻运动也可提升肠道菌群多样性、影响肠道菌群组成。③运动可通过调节炎症反应和减轻氧化应激损伤,提高心肺功能和运动表现进而改善呼吸系统疾病。④运动通过调控肠道菌群抑制炎症反应、调节氧化应激、改善肠屏障通透性和维持肠道菌群稳态,在防治呼吸系统疾病中发挥关键作用。
