Effect of boundary conditions on shakedown analysis of heterogeneous materials

The determination of the ultimate load-bearing capacity of structures made of elastoplastic heterogeneous materials under varying loads is of great importance for engineering analysis and design. Therefore, it is necessary to accurately predict the shakedown domains of these materials. The static shakedown theorem, also known as Melan's theorem, is a fundamental method used to predict the shakedown domains of structures and materials. Within this method, a key aspect lies in the construction and application of an appropriate self-equilibrium stress field(SSF). In the structural shakedown analysis, the SSF is typically constructed by governing equations that satisfy no external force(NEF) boundary conditions. However, we discover that directly applying these governing equations is not suitable for the shakedown analysis of heterogeneous materials. Researchers must consider the requirements imposed by the Hill-Mandel condition for boundary conditions and the physical significance of representative volume elements(RVEs). This paper addresses this issue and demonstrates that the sizes of SSFs vary under different boundary conditions, such as uniform displacement boundary conditions(DBCs), uniform traction boundary conditions(TBCs), and periodic boundary conditions(PBCs). As a result, significant discrepancies arise in the predicted shakedown domain sizes of heterogeneous materials. Built on the demonstrated relationship between SSFs under different boundary conditions, this study explores the conservative relationships among different shakedown domains, and provides proof of the relationship between the elastic limit(EL) factors and the shakedown loading factors under the loading domain of two load vertices. By utilizing numerical examples, we highlight the conservatism present in certain results reported in the existing literature. To investigate the influences of co-flowand counter-flowmodes of reactant flowarrangement on a proton exchange membrane fuel cell(PEMFC)during start-up,unsteady physical and mathematical models fully coupling the flow,heat,and electrochemical reactions in a PEMFC are *** continuity equation and momentum equation are solved by handling pressure-velocity coupling using the SIMPLE *** electrochemical reaction rates in the catalyst layers(CLs)of the cathode and anode are calculated using the Butler-Volmer *** multiphase mixture model describes the multiphase transport process of gas mixtures and liquid water in the fuel *** validation,the influences of co-flow and counter-flow modes on the PEMFC performance are investigated,including the evolution of the current density,flow field,temperature field,and reactant concentration field during start-up,as well as the steady distribution of the current density,reactant concentration,andmembrane water content when the start-up ***-flow and counter-flow modes influence the current density distribution and temperature *** the one hand,the co-flow mode accelerates the start-up process of the PEMFC and leads to a more evenly distributed current density than the counter-flow *** the other hand,the temperature difference between the inlet and outlet sections of the cell is up to 10.1℃ under the co-flow mode,much larger than the 5.0℃ observed in the counter-flow ***,the counter-flowmode results in a more evenly distributed temperature and a lower maximum temperature than the co-flow ***,in the flow field design of a PEMFC,the reactant flow arrangements can be considered to weigh between better heat management and higher current density distribution of the cell.

Thermally-induced flow instabilities are a critical issue in multi-channel regenerative cooling *** particular,the interactions between Density-Wave Oscillations(DWO)and Flow Maldistribution(FMD)can result in complex and disastrous instability *** study investigates the instability behaviors of hydrocarbon fluid in a four-channel system with a constant heat flux ratio using both frequency-and time-domain *** the heat flux increases,the in-tube flow sequentially destabilizes in each channel and converges to new equilibrium states,leading to the emergence of FMD *** also causes the system eigenvalue to change repeatedly from negative to positive rather than increasing ***,the system eigenvalues are between those of the two most unstable channels,indicating that the stability behavior of the entire system is dictated by the most unstable *** FMD occurs,flow oscillations are activated in channels with weak stability,and the in-tube flow is observed to evolve into various flow patterns,including stable flow,self-sustained oscillation,oscillation divergence,quasiperiodic oscillation,and oscillation *** novel instability mode of oscillation excursion involves a spontaneous transition of operating *** oscillates from an equilibrium state and then stabilizes at a new operational state after oscillation-induced ***,the newfound stable state may also be only temporary,with the in-tube flow regressing to the initial state,resulting in quasi-periodic oscillation.

本文以弹性力学为例,提出了多重节点法用于求解大规模稀疏线性方程组.多重节点法利用叠加性将复杂问题分解为简单的子问题,并利用局部性减少计算量.粗节点刚度阵和子区域刚度阵在迭代时不变,使得多重节点法适合求解多工况问题.粗节点和细节点之间的映射关系通过求解局部有限元模型得到而非插值法,使得多重节点法能够快速求解复杂拓扑问题.为了加快收敛速度,提出了最优粗节点刚度阵,并基于正则化最小二乘法给出了其计算方法.大规模数值实验表明,多重节点法具有很好的可扩展性以及近似线性加速比.与主流算法如多重网格法相比,多重节点法在求解多工况问题时收敛速度更快.
