Efforts to improve crop yields with efficient use of fertilizers are needed to guarantee global food *** slow-release fertilizer systems(SRFs)encapsulated in biodegradable matrices are being developed to address this global *** a wide range of strategies for SRFs development,we explored a natureinspired solution based on the plant cuticle model and its function as a membrane for water and nutrient transport ***,Candelilla wax,extracted from Candelilla wild plants(Euphorbia antisyphilitica),is studied as a renewable slow-release matrix for fertilizers encapsulated by a modified spray chilling *** this process,microencapsulates containing 40 wt%of phosphorus fertilizer are obtained with distinctive sizes and chemical characteristics,presenting a slow-release *** the abovementioned features,novel insights into fertilizer release mechanisms based on plant cuticle models are discussed.

To assess the peripheral refractive changes that occur when eye growth decelerates in *** We measured peripheral refraction and on-axis vitreous chamber depth on a total of 53 marmosets;36 treated monocularly for 12 weeks 9 hrs/day(26 with-5 D contact lenses,10 with+5 D)and 17 untreated *** the 26 marmosets treated with-5 D,10 wore contact lenses 9 hrs/day without interruptions and were mea-sured at the end of 10 weeks of treatment(T10)and after 4 weeks of recovery(R14).Eight had both contact lenses removed for 30 mins twice/day(mid-morning and mid-afternoon)during the first four weeks of treatment(early interruption group)and eight had the lenses removed during the second four weeks of treatment(late interruption group).The two interruption groups were measured after 4,8 and 12 weeks of treatment only(T4,T8,T12).

Host-mediated lung inflammation is present,1 and drives mortality,2 in critical illness caused by *** genetic variants associated with critical illness may identify mechanistic targets for therapeutic development.3 Here we report the results of the GenOMICC(Genetics Of Mortality In Critical Care)genome-wide association study(GWAS)in 2244 critically ill Covid-19 patients from 208 UK intensive care units(ICUs).We identify and replicate novel genome-wide significant associations,on chr12q24.13(rs10735079,p=1.65[Formula:see text]10-8)in a gene cluster encoding antiviral restriction enzyme activators(OAS1,OAS2,OAS3),on chr19p13.2(rs2109069,p=2.3[Formula:see text]10-12)near the gene encoding tyrosine kinase 2(TyK2),on chr19p13.3(rs2109069,p=3.98[Formula:see text]10-12)within the gene encoding dipeptidyl peptidase 9(DPP9),and on chr21q22.1(rs2236757,p=4.99[Formula:see text]10-8)in the interferon receptor gene *** identify potential targets for repurposing of licensed medications:using Mendelian randomisation we found evidence in support of a causal link from low expression of IFNAR2,and high expression of TyK2,to life-threatening disease;transcriptome-wide association in lung tissue revealed that high expression of the monocyte/macrophage chemotactic receptor CCR2 is associated with severe *** results identify robust genetic signals relating to key host antiviral defence mechanisms,and mediators of inflammatory organ damage in *** mechanisms may be amenable to targeted treatment with existing ***-scale randomised clinical trials will be essential before any change to clinical practice.
