Salinity stress is a major challenge for global agriculture,particularly in arid and semi-arid regions,limiting plant productivity due to water and soil *** conditions particularly affect countries along the southern Mediterranean rim,including Algeria,which primarily focuses on pastoral and forage *** study investigates salinity tolerance and ecotypic variability in vicia narbonensis L.,a fodder legume species recognized for its potential to reclaim marginal ***,physiological,and biochemical responses were assessed in three ecotypes(eco2,eco9,and eco10)exposed to different salinity levels(low,moderate,and severe).The study was conducted using a completely randomized block design with three blocks per ecotype per *** results from the two-way analysis of variance demonstrate significant effects across nearly all attributes studied,revealing distinct ecotypic *** findings underscore variations in growth parameters,osmotic regulation mechanisms,and biochemical *** substantial diversity observed among these ecotypes in their response to salinity provides valuable insights for breeders addressing both agronomic and ecological *** analyses,including Principal Component Analysis(PCA),revealed key variables distinguishing between ecotypes under salinity ***,Classification based on Salinity Tolerance Indices(STI)further differentiated ecotypic performance with more precision,and this is because of the combination of the different parameters *** results open up new prospects for the development of strategies to improve the salinity tolerance of forage legumes.

The objective of this study is to propose an optimal plant design for blue hydrogen production aboard a liquefiednatural gas(LNg)*** investigation focuses on integrating two distinct processes—steam methanereforming(SMR)and ship-based carbon capture(SBCC).The first refers to the common practice used to obtainhydrogen from methane(often derived from natural gas),where steam reacts with methane to produce hydrogenand carbon dioxide(CO_(2)).The second refers to capturing the CO_(2) generated during the SMR process on *** capturing and storing the carbon emissions,the process significantly reduces its environmental impact,making the hydrogen production“blue,”as opposed to“grey”(which involves CO_(2) emissions without capture).For the SMR process,the analysis reveals that increasing the reformer temperature enhances both the processperformance and CO_(2) ***,a higher steam-to-carbon(s/c)ratio reduces hydrogen yield,therebydecreasing thermal *** study also shows that preheating the air and boil-off gas(BOg)before theyenter the combustion chamber boosts overall efficiency and curtails CO_(2) *** the SBCC process,puremonoethanolamine(MEA)is employed to capture the CO_(2) generated by the exhaust gases from the SMR *** results indicate that with a 90%CO_(2) capture rate,the associated heat consumption amounts to 4.6 MJ perkilogram of CO_(2) *** combined approach offers a viable pathway to produce blue hydrogen on LNgcarriers while significantly reducing the carbon footprint.

This article is descriptive research that takes into account the growing concerns of the authorities of the municipality of Coyah regarding waste management, as well as our desire to contribute to improving the living conditions of the inhabitants of this region. The main objective is to assess the environmental impacts of uncontrolled waste collection points on the receiving environments, by characterizing and evaluating them. This will make it possible to propose appropriate measures for rational and sustainable management of the environment in Coyah. The study addresses the characterization and assessment of pollution of receiving environments, including water, soil and air. environmental analyses were carried out according to standard methods of EPA (1997), adapted to the equipment of the companies Hach, Millipore and verlan. During the environmental impact assessment, we identified the sources of pollution and assessed the potential impacts. This research highlighted the pollution of receiving environments by waste located in the vicinity of collection points, while considering solutions for efficient and sustainable waste management.

In Burkina Faso, as in other African countries, infertility has become a social burden for the population and a public health problem. Male infertility accounts for 30% to 40% of all infertility cases. The diagnosis of male infertility or hypofertility is often made by a simple laboratory analysis of sperm to explore sperm parameters. In most African countries, such as Burkina Faso, microbiological analysis in the context of sperm analysis is still not developed, and is carried out solely based on microscopy and traditional culture, which does not allow the growth of fragile and demanding bacteria. Our study investigated the microorganisms of sperm that may be involved in male infertility, using conventional bacteriology techniques and real-time PCR. However, it did not intend to perform a multivariate statistical association analysis to estimate the association of microorganisms with abnormal semen parameters. This prospective cross-sectional pilot study was carried out on patients who visited the bacteriology laboratory of Centre MURAZ, a research Institute in Burkina Faso, for male infertility diagnosis between 2 August and 31 August 2021. Bacteria were isolated and identified using standard bacteriology techniques. In parallel, common pathogenic microorganisms known to be associated with male infertility were targeted and detected in the sperm using a multiplex real-time PCR assay. A total of 38 sperm samples were analyzed by bacteriological culture and bacteria isolated were Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) 5.55%, Klebsiella pneumoniae (K. pneumoniae), enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis), Streptococcus agalactiae (S. agalactiae) and Staphylococcus hoemalyticus (S. hoemalyticus) respectively 2.70%. Real-time PCR targeted and detected Chlamydia trachomatis (C. trachomatis) at 7.89%, Ureaplasma urealyticum (U. urealyticum) at 21.05%, Ureaplasma parvum (U. parvum) at 18.42%, Mycoplasma hominis (M. hominis) at 15.79%, Mycoplasma genitalium (M. genitalium) at 10.53%

DNA testing for biological relationships is becoming increasingly common in Burkina Faso. STR analysis remains the most reliable technique for resolving disputes or claims in court regarding biological relationships. This study aimed to establish the links of biological relationships between subjects by analyzing 21 STR loci. The participants were 14 individuals referred to CERBA by the Justice in 2022. Oral or blood samples were taken for each subject. DNA was extracted, and the analysis of DNA polymorphism by PowerPlex® 21 Kit (Part No. DC8902) was performed by capillary electrophoresis on the ABI PRISM 3130 sequencer. DNA profiles were compiled using the geneMapper IDX software version 1.2. Of the fourteen subjects examined, twelve of these samples had complete genetic profiles, while the other two had partial and absent profiles. The results confirmed the inclusion of three cases of Paternity, one case of maternity, one case of a relationship of brotherhood, and the exclusion of one case of maternity and one case of a relationship of brotherhood. DNA tests improve the resolution of filiations, but they require ethical and cultural awareness and a strengthened legal framework to prevent and protect society.

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) represent a public health problem due to their high prevalence worldwide and the emergence of multidrug resistance of responsible microorganisms. Medical laboratory diagnosis of sexually transmitted genital infections by traditional methods as culture remains extremely delicate, difficult or impossible (to find extremely fragile organisms that can be cultured). Thus, molecular techniques constitute an alternative to improve accurate diagnostic, personalized patient treatment, and public health. A total of 83 clinical samples including urethral discharge and urine samples from individual patients with symptoms of urethritis received were analyzed using traditional methods and a commercial real-time PCR (qPCR) method. Out of 83 urethritis patients, n = 55 (66.26%) were positive for at least one of the STI pathogens detected by qPCR. qPCR assay was more sensitive (50/83, positive cases) compared to culture (15/83, positive cases) and light microscopy (28/83, positive cases). The most prevalent NTD pathogen in the suspected patients was N. gonorrhoeae with 60.24% (50/83) based on real-time PCR diagnosis. Among the positive cases of STI pathogens, Neisseria gonorrhoeae had the highest frequency 49/55 (89.01%) followed by low frequencies of Trichomonas vaginalis 4/55 (7.27%) and Chlamydia trachomatis 1/55 (1.82%). This highlights the high prevalence of N. gonorrhoeae infection in male urethritis patients and a very important misdiagnosis using traditional routine methods in Burkina Faso by medical laboratories. Thus, this situation may negatively impact patients’ personalized treatment and care and public health with the possible rapid emergence of multidrug-resistant strains. This study also highlights the urgent need to optimize culture for the diagnosis of NTD pathogens in Burkina Faso and the usefulness and the need for the introduction of molecular diagnostic methods in routine diagnosis for the detection of NTD pathogens in the

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the top 10 threats to global health and it is estimated around 10 millions of deaths per year are associated with AMR until 2050. Burkina Faso is also facing the emergence and spread of AMR of several bacteria resistant strains such as those of public health concerns under surveillance enterobacteriaceae. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing enterobacteriaceae (ESBL-PE) clinical isolates from patients attending the bacteriology laboratory of the Centre MURAZ in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso. Clinical isolates from urine, pus, stool, and semen were collected from April to June 2017. Identification and antibiotic susceptibility testing were performed using the vITEK 2 compact automated system according to EUCAST version 2015 recommendations. ESBL detection was then performed on the Muller-Hinton medium using the combined disc method. One hundred (100) strains of enterobacteriaceae were isolated from 100 patients, including 52% of ESBLS. Escherichia coli (E. coli) was the most commonly isolated ESBL [(84.62, 44/72) ESBL], followed by Klebsiella spp. [(40%, 06/15) ESBL], then enterobacter spp. [(40%, 2/5) ESBL]. Risk factor analysis revealed that ESBL-PE infection was frequently found in pus samples (P = 0.042;[OR] = 3.16;95% [CI] = 1.04 - 9.61) and that E. coli was the strain most likely to harbour ESBL (P = 0.008;[OR] = 3.60;95% [CI] = 1.40 - 9.31). This study reports a high prevalence of ESBL-PE associated with strong resistance to quinolones and cotrimoxazole (over 80%), which calls for increased surveillance of these superbugs, the adoption of a rational antibiotic prescription policy, and rigorous hygiene measures to prevent the spread of these multi-resistant bacteria.

A Regional Structural Mapping Approach for Mineral Exploration: Application in the Southwestern Region of Burkina Faso

From a harmonized structural map at the scale of a portion of SW Burkina Faso (90 × 80 km2), we targeted prospective zones on the basis of structural criteria and structure-geology relationships. The map was constructed from an aeromagnetic image, and the geology was deduced from old geological maps. The procedure involved extracting the magnetic fabric and deducing the deformation gradients, which led to the identification of shear zones. Analysis and interpretation of the structural geometry of the obtained structural pattern led us to target areas of interference between structures or geology-structures interplays, which are conducive to the deposition of metallic elements. The subsequent overlay of known gold prospects and deposits documented in the region revealed the validity of the predefined prospects. This result reinforces the applicability of the methodology as a first-order regional approach to mineral exploration.

Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer worldwide, accounting for 6.8% of new cancer cases and 8.1% of cancer-related deaths. About 85% of these deaths occurred in low- and middle-income countries. The aim of this study was to assess the frequency and distribution of the human papillomavirus (HPv) genotypes in women showing cytological abnormalities of the cervix at the Sourô SANOU University Hospital (CHUSS) in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso. This is a descriptive study of women recruited at the CHUSS. The cervico-uterine smear examination was carried out at the CHUSS Anatomy and Pathology department for cervical cancer screening. The data were collected from women with atypical cells on their cervico-uterine smear. Cervicovaginal samples were taken from consenting women and HPv genotyping was performed using the HPv Direct FLOW CHIP kit at CERBA. We obtained approval from the ethics committee. The data were analyzed using the SPSS 26 software. The results of the study showed that 67.79% of the participants were aged between 50 and 65, a group that is particularly vulnerable to persistent infection with high-risk oncogenic HPv genotypes. Of the women screened, 40.7% were HPv positive and 29.2% had multiple infections. The most common genotypes were HPv 35, followed by HPv 18, 52, 58 and 66. These data highlight the need for increased surveillance and targeted prevention strategies among this female population.
