The integration of additive manufacturing(AM)in design and engineering has prompted a wide spectrum of research efforts,involving topologically optimized solid/lattice structures,multimaterial structures,bioinspired organic structures,and multiscale structures,to name a ***,except for obvious cases,very little attention has been given to the design and printing of more complex three-dimensional(3D)hollow structures or folded/creased *** of the main reasons is that such complex open or closed 3D cavities and regular/freeform folds generally lead to printing difficulties from support-structure-related *** address this barrier,this paper aims to investigate four-dimensional(4D)printing as well as origami-based design as an original research direction to design and build 3D support-free hollow *** work consists of describing the rough 3D hollow structures in terms of two-dimensional(2D)printed origami precursor layouts without any support *** origami-based definitions are then embodied with folding functions that can be actuated and fulfilled by 3D printed smart *** desired 3D shape is then built once an external stimulus is applied to the active materials,therefore ensuring the transformation of the 2D origami layout to 3D *** demonstrate the relevance of the proposal,some illustrative cases are introduced.

The Dynamics of Spreading of Oils on Hydrophilic and Hydrophobic Surfaces Revisited Using Computational Fluid Dynamics

The dynamics of drop spreading on horizontal smooth surfaces of different wettabilities is revisited using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). For this purpose, a recently developed CFD model, based on the volume of fluid technique (VOF), with piecewise linear interface calculations method (PLIC) for interface reconstruction, is generalized and applied to simulate the time evolution of spreading drops on solid surfaces (drop base radius and dynamic contact angle). The CFD simulations are quantitatively compared with previously published experimental results from other research groups. The influence of different factors, such as oils nature (silicone, mineral, peanut and coconut), viscosity (0.02-1 Pa·s), drop volume (0.3-38 μL) and type of surfaces (hydrophilic glass, stainless steel and hydrophobic glass) on the temporal evolution of the drop base radius and contact angle is investigated. For hydrophilic surfaces, the predictions of the CFD model agree remarkably well with the measurements. For hydrophobic surfaces, a small deviation between calculated and experimental results occurs because the model does not consider the partial slippage which can take place on hydrophobic materials. despite neglecting this aspect, the simulations are found to capture the key features of drop spreading on hydrophobic surface. The fact that we obtain a good agreement between the proposed theory and the experimental results for a large range of oils and surfaces over five decades of time is a strong argument in favor of the model. The accuracy of the model demonstrates also that the influence of the surface wettabity (partial wetting and complete wetting) can be successfully simulated. The numerical results reproduce perfectly the spreading regimes which occur during the time course of the drop. The succession of two different regimes takes place in the following order: a hydrodynamic regime followed by a gravity regime.

Heterogeneous catalytic reactions involve the use of highly dispersed active phases such as metal, metal oxide, or metal sulphide nanoparticIes on thermally stable supports. Fluctuations of the reaction temperature during the reactions can induce sintering of the particles. The stability of such small particles represents a crucial parameter in the development of new families of catalysts with high activity in many fields. Here we report the stability of platinum nanoparticles （2-3 nm） on a few-layer graphene （FLG） surface as studied by in situ high temperature transmission electron microscopy.

Development of new ionic gelation strategy： Towards the preparation of new monodisperse and stable hyaluronic acid/ β-cyclodextrin-grafted chitosan nanoparticles as drug delivery carriers for doxorubicin

In the present study, β-cyclodextrin-grafted chitosan nanoparticles （β-CD- g-CS NPs） were prepared using a new ionic gelation strategy involving a synergistic effect of NaCI （150 mmol/L）, 4-（2-hydroxyethyl）-1-piperazineethanesulfonic acid （HEPES, 10 mmol/L）, and water bath sonication. This new strategy afforded smaller and more monodisperse β-CD-g-CS NPs vs. the classical ionic gelation method. New HA8β-CD-g-CS NPs were also prepared using the above-mentioned strategy by adding hyaluronic acid （HA） to the β-CD-g-CS copolymer at different weight ratios until the ZP values conversion. The best result was obtained with the weight ratio of w（HA）：w（β-CD-g-CS） = 2：1 and furnished new spherical and smooth HA/β-CD-g-CS NPs. Furthermore, the stability of β- CD-g-CS NPs and HA/β-CD-g-CS NPs at 4℃ in physiological medium （pH 7.4） was compared for 3 weeks period and showed that HA/β-CD-g-CS NPs were more stable all maintaining their monodispersity and high negative ZP values compared to β-CD-g-CS NPs. Finally, preliminary study of HA/β-CD-g-CS NPs as carrier for the controlled release of the anticancer drug doxorubicin was investigated. These new HA/β-CD-g-CS NPs can potentially be used as drug delivery and targeting systems for cancer treatment.

Effect of Initial Size and Shape Importance on Masse Transfer during Convective Drying

In this paper the influence of sample initial size on their convective drying at 80°C using convective dryer is determined. Results prove that initial size must be taken into account when drying process was estimated. This influence is limited by its form of cut. Comparing cubic form and parallelepiped (slice) one;results seem to show that thickness is the most important parameter governing the transfer phenomena during foodstuff convective drying. Three slices with thickness of 0.5 cm and surface area of 17, 82 and 112 cm2 respectively, dry better than cubic sample with a = 1 cm or a = 2 cm of arrest and having respectively 6 and 24 cm2 of surface area. All things seem to show that initial surface is not only the essential parameter;but also the thickness of the sample must be taken into account. Indeed, all of the samples with equal thickness (0.5 cm) and different exchange surfaces dry at the same time, about 210 min, comparing with cubic form 1 cm of arrest and 6 cm2 of surface and drying time of 230 min. A new parameter noted Dc called characteristic diameter is so considered to bridge the gaps. It is defined to be the diameter of the biggest sphere we can cut into a sample. This parameter is independent of form of the sample, and time increase with characteristic diameter increasing.

Thermal Properties of the Product of Palm Stearin and Linseed Oil Transesterification

Triacylglycerols are the main constituents of natural fats and oils and contribute directly to their texture and flavor. The DSC （differential scanning calorimetry） of fats and oils is usually performed in order to characterize their melting and crystallization characteristics. The effect of the chemically catalyzed interesterification of two vegetable oils, i.e. palm stearin and linseed oil, on the thermal behavior of the product is studied. The objective of this study is to analyze the impact of the transesterification reaction conditions and of the initial amounts of oils on the thermal behavior of the product. This work shows that both cooling and heating DSC thermograms undergo significant changes as the result of the mixture of linseed oil and palm stearin and of their transesterification.

despite a large variety of processes that can control Mo and its potential to become an environmental tracer of euxinic environment, this element is not often studied in lakes. The aim of this paper is to identify main seasonal biogeochemical processes that involve Mo in a well constrained freshwater system (Lake Pavin water-column) in order to evaluate their respective importance. In Lake Pavin, 4 main processes have been identified: 1) the transitional process represented by Mo assimilation of by phytoplankton in the epilimnion (nitrogen biological fixation and nitrate assimilation);2) transient process represented by dissolved Mo adsorption onto Fe and Mn metal oxides at oxic/anoxic interface (depth 50 - 60 m);3) Mo precipitation where apparent sulfide production rate is maximum, and from 80 m depths;4) release of dissolved Mo due to Mo benthic flux or input from a deep source.
