The Mako area located in the region of Kedougou is characterized by very hilly terrains with hardly accessible zones. This situation makes it difficult to map these terrains and exposes the populations to the permanent risk of a rock slide. The issue of this paper is to evaluate the instabilities susceptibility at the Mako zone located at the hilliest zone of Senegal. It is done using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The predisposing factors that are slope, lithology, hydrography, fracturing, land use are defined by the GIS and field data then are confirmed by field observations. According to field observations, more possible scenarios are SC1 and SC4 at the dry season and rainy season respectively. The instabilities susceptibility maps are taken from weighted overlay of these factors and they show that hilly areas are the most susceptible to rockslide or landslide when fractures are present with percent of moderate to high susceptibility between 13% and 22%. These percentages increase and can reach more than 40% with an intense water flow during the rainy season. Hazard can reach up to two hundred meters of foothill according to maps.

In this study, fourteen physicochemical parameters were monitored at 61 groundwater sampling points located in the southern part of Abidjan District. Each water sampling location was sampled in March and July 2007, representing respectively the long dry season and the long wet season. Groundwater evaluation index and statistical methods were used to assess Quaternary groundwater physicochemical quality in term of drinking and irrigation purposes. The groundwater samples irrespective of seasons fell in mixed K-Na-HCO3 and K-Na-Cl types. Groundwater quality index values varied from 14.01 to 593.44 and from 20.88 to 567.44, in dry and rainy seasons, respectively. In both seasons, 9.83% exhibited poor water quality and 3.27% indicated unsuitable water for drinking purposes. The studied water wells were heavily contaminated with nitrate, nitrite and ammonium in the strongly urbanized areas at Treichville, Koumassi, Marcory, Port-Bou?t and Grand-Bassam. The degree of correlation between physicochemical parameters suggested that groundwater quality was mainly related to geogenic (rock–water interaction) and anthropogenic sources (domestic sewage), and intrusion of marine and lagoon waters in the study area. Sodium adsorption ratio was generally low during study period, indicating most groundwater sampled was suitable for irrigation purposes.

Many researches were undertaken in order to set up models which enable to calculate indoor daylighting [1-3].There are three of type’s method to calculate the daylight luminance through windows and large openings inside the *** others,‘simplified methods’ (lumen method,Split Flux System method,etc...),‘numerical simulation method’ (Radiosity,Ray Tracing,etc...) and finally ‘experimental method’ (scale model,building experimental,etc...) are described in *** put some specific interest in the ‘simplified methods’ because they are easy to use and don’t need a lot of inputs for *** big disadvantage for most of these models is these models depend on restricted *** example,if we considered " Split Flux System method", we see that the models can be used only to overcast *** example,the " lumen method" applied for any skies,but the models gives only five values in the *** they can only work under precise and limited *** this present paper,we purpose to see how we can circumvent these difficulties by improving the "lumen Model".Indeed,we will to introduce the notion of " Equivalent deep" (E) into the " lumen method".This " Equivalent deep" will calculate any values and any types of skies instead of the original " lumen method";that only calculate five values.

In the agricultural regions of Burkina Faso, urban solid waste fertilizers were usually applied. This activity is likely to contaminate the soils and expose populations to serious diseases. This study aims to assess rate of heavy metal (Cd, Cu, Mn, Pb, Zn, Ni, Cr) contamination in both agricultural lixisol and vertisol and to evaluate the removal efficiency of heavy metals using Vetiver grass on different two mixed heavy metal contaminated soils. A pot experiment was conducted to compare the metal accumulation and overall efficiency of metal uptake by different plant parts (roots and shoots) on both tropical soils. After 3 and 6 months growing on laboratory conditions, Vetiver grass plants were harvested and heavy metal concentrations in shoot and root parts determined by Inductively Coupled Plasma - Atomic Emission Spectroscopy. The results indicate that at 3 and 6 moths, the shoot and root concentrations of heavy metals in Vetiver grass harvested in lixisol were higher than vertisol. For different plant parts, all metal concentrations were higher in root than in shoot, except Cu and Pb. At the 3 and 6 months, the BCF values > 1 for Cd, Cu and Zn in both soils showed Vetiver grass as an effective phyto-stabilizer for these metals. However, the TF values > 1 for Cd (lixisol), Mn, Zn Ni and Cr (vertisol) indicated the efficiency of Vetiver for phytoextraction. The results of this study showed that Vetiver is more effective in lixisol, but it can be used for remediation of both studied tropical soils from agricultural region of Burkina Faso. Nevertheless, considering the special limitations of the experimental conditions, further field monitoring is necessary to demonstrate the phytoremediation efficiency of Vetiver in agricultural soils under the climatic conditions of Burkina Faso.

Direct photochemical degradations of progesterone (PR) and testosterone (TR), two naturally produced hormones, have been conducted in non-buffered aqueous solution (pH ranging between 5.5 and 6.0). The irradiation experiments were carried out in a batch reactor upon monochromatic (254 nm) and polychromatic (λ > 290 nm) at 25°C. GlC/MS and lC/UV-DAD/MS analyses were performed to investigate phototransformation products after a solid phase extraction (SPE) step for analytes concentration. For each compound several by-products have been identified and are the same ones under both irradiation conditions. Because of the presence of the same chromophore (α, β-unsaturated group) absorbing UV radiations in both hormones, the majority of chromatographic peaks correspond to by-products formed according to identical mechanisms involving isomerization, enolization, oxidation and hydration to lead to the generation of lumiketone, cyclopentenone, spiro-hydration, oxidation and hydroxylation photoproducts.

The Alibori Basin, with an area of 13,400 km2, is a tributary of the Niger River in Benin. It is a river that passes through the potentially agricultural area of Benin. The waters of the river are useful for wildlife and are used for various purposes (drinking water, laundry, domestic activities). They regularly receive the discharges and drainage of the residues of the chemical fertilizers and pesticides not used by crops during the cultivation of the river and watershed bank. This study aims to assess the impact of the agricultural inputs on the quality of the waters from Alibori river on the basis of its physico-chemical characteristics and concentrations in Trace Metal Elements such as Zn, Pb, Cd and Cu. Seven (7) sites were selected along the river. Concentrations of , , , ?, Cu2+ and Zn2+ were measured using a spectrophotometer DR 1800 and that of Pb and Cd by Metalyse. The Metal Trace Elements were measured in the Alibori river sediments after being treated and mineralized using aqua regia. The results revealed that Alibori river characteristics varied with seasons and its waters and sediments were polluted by metals, phosphates and nitrites. The pollution of waters of the Alibori River was due to the intensive use of the chemical fertilizers and pesticides for agricultural purposes.

Composition, Stability and Probable Structure of a Colourless Organometallic Complex (Gd(III)-Malic Acid)

The formation of colourless gadolinium complexes (x,y,z), between x gadolinium ions, y ligands and z protons, of some organic acids, has been studied in aqueous solution. In this work we present the results of investigations on the interaction of the gadolinium ion (Gd3+) with malic acid (C4H6O5, a-hydroxyl dicarboxylic acid), in dilute aqueous solution for pH values between 5.5 and 7.5. Colourless gadolinium complexes of malate ions have no absorption band UV-visible, the indirect photometric detection (IPD) technique was used and studies have identified a major tri-nuclear complex of malate ion (﹣OOC-CH2-CHOH-COO﹣). The formation of this new colourless complex is derived from three Gd(III) ions that react with two malate ions and two hydronium ions (H3O+), giving for this colourless complex, a (3,2,2) composition and apparent stability constant depends on the acidity of the medium, with logK'322 = 18.88 ± 0.05 at pH = 6.30. To complement previous results and to propose a probable structure for this new complex detected in solution, studies of IR spectroscopy have been conducted to identify the chelation sites for both ligands. The results were analysed and show that this organometallic gadolinium complex, contains two different sites, respectively, two lateral tetradentate mono-nuclear sites and a single central bidentate mono-nuclear site. From these results, the reaction of formation, the stability constant and the probable structure of this new colourless organometallic gadolinium complex are proposed.

Use of a Multiple Regression Model in the Estimation of Water Borehole Flows in the Middle of Cracked Basement in Côte d’Ivoire

The objective of this study was to propose a mathematical regression model to estimate the exploitation flow rate of a water borehole from geophysical parameters in the midst of a fissured basement in the central-eastern part of C?te d’Ivoire. The data of the study are both hydrogeological and geophysical parameters from one hundred and eleven (111) data sheets of (111) water and geophysical boreholes. Two methods were used. The Normal Principal Component Analysis (NPCA) method applied to the data made it possible to select the explanatory variables (geophysical parameters) for borehole productivity. The multiple linear regression method subsequently made it possible to propose a mathematical model capable of estimating the exploitation rate from the geophysical parameters. The results indicate a very strong correlation (0.87) between longitudinal conductivity and flow rate, with flow rate and apparent resistivity negatively correlated. The multiple linear regression method highlighted two relevant explanatory variables, longitudinal conductivity and apparent resistivity. These two geophysical parameters contributed to a mathematical model in the form Q = C1X1 + C2X2 + ... + CnXn + C0. the real model obtained in this work is Q = 0.82Cl - 0.12*** + 2.5. The resulting model is efficient with a correlation of 86% in calibration and 95% in validation. A bias of 0.37 in calibration and 0.82 in validation is observed. Finally, the square root mean square error (RMSE) is 3.10 to 3.38 respectively in calibration and validation.

The Asia-Pacific(AP)region has experienced faster warming than the global average in recent decades and has experienced more climate extremes,however little is known about the response of vegetation growth to these *** updated Global Inventory Modeling and Mapping Studies third-generation global satellite Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer Normalized Difference Vegetation Index dataset and gridded reanalysis climate data were used to investigate the spatiotemporal changes in both trends of vegetation dynamic indicators and climatic *** then further analyzed their relations associated with land cover across the AP *** main findings are threefold:(1)at continental scales the AP region overall experienced a gradual and significant increasing trend in vegetation growth during the last three decades,and this NDVI trend corresponded with an insignificant increasing trend in temperature;(2)vegetation growth was negatively and significantly correlated with the Pacific decadal Oscillation index and the El Niño/Southern Oscillation(ENSO)in AP;and(3)at pixel scales,except for Australia,both vegetation growth and air temperature significantly increased in the majority of study regions and vegetation growth spatially correlated with temperature;In Australia and other water-limited regions vegetation growth positively correlated with precipitation.
