A comparative study on 3-D solar wind structure observed by Ulysses and MHD simulation

During Ulysses’ first rapid pole-to-pole transit from September 1994 to June 1995, its observations showed that middle- or high-speed solar winds covered all latitudes except those between ?20° and +20° near the ecliptic plane, where the velocity was 300―450 km/s. At poleward 40°, however, only fast solar winds at the speed of 700―870 km/s were observed. In addition, the transitions from low-speed wind to high-speed wind or vice versa were abrupt. In this paper, the large-scale structure of solar wind observed by Ulysses near solar minimum is simulated by using the three-dimensional numerical MHD model. The model com- bines TVD Lax-Friedrich scheme and MacCormack II scheme and decomposes the calculation region into two re- gions: one from 1 to 22 Rs and the other from 18 Rs to 1 AU. Based on the observations of the solar photospheric magnetic field and an addition of the volumetric heating to MHD equations, the large-scale solar wind structure mentioned above is reproduced by using the three-dimensional MHD model and the numerical results are roughly consistent with Ulysses’ observations. Our simulation shows that the initial magnetic field topology and the addition of volume heating may govern the bimodal structure of solar wind observed by Ulysses and also demonstrates that the three-dimensional MHD numerical model used here is efficient in modeling the large-scale solar wind structure.

Quantitative palaeoclimatic reconstruction with the weighted averaging partial least squares method was applied to the pollen profile from Hulun Lake in northeastern Inner *** data provide a detailed history of variations in precipitation and temperature over the northeastern margin of the East Asian summer monsoon during the Holocene.A warm and dry climate prevailed over the lake region until c.8000 *** the period c.8000-4400 ***,precipitation increased markedly and temperature gradually *** interval between c.4400 and 3350 *** was marked by extremely dry and relatively cold *** recovered from c.3350 to 1000 ***,with temperatures rising c.3350-2050 *** and dropping c.2050-1000 cal. *** the last 500 years,the climate of the lake region displayed a general trend of warming and wetting. While Holocene temperature variations in the mid-high latitude monsoonal margin were controlled by changes in summer solar radiation in the Northern Hemisphere,they could also be related to the strength of the East Asian summer *** lack of precipitation during the early Holocene could be attributed to the weakened summer monsoon resulting from the existence of remnant ice sheets in the Northern *** in the monsoonal precipitation during the middle to late Holocene would have been associated with the ocean-atmosphere interacting processes occurring in the western tropical Pacific.

Nickel-rich transition-metal oxides are widely regarded as promising cathode materials for high-energydensity lithium-ion batteries for emerging electric vehicles. However, achieving high energy density in Ni-rich cathodes is accompanied by substantial safety and cycle-life obstacles. The major issues of Ni-rich cathodes at high working potentials are originated from the unstable cathode-electrolyte interface, while the underlying mechanism of parasitic reactions towards surface reconstructions of cathode materials is not well understood. In this work, we controlled the Li_(2)CO_(3) impurity content on LiNi_(0.83)Mn_(0.1)Co_(0.07)O_(2) cathodes using air, tank-air, and O_(2) synthesis environments. Home-built high-precision leakage current and on-line electrochemical mass spectroscopy experiments verify that Li_(2)CO_(3) impurity is a significant promoter of parasitic reactions on Ni-rich cathodes. The rate of parasitic reactions is strongly correlated to Li_(2)CO_(3) content and severe performance deterioration of Ni83 *** post-mortem characterizations via high-resolution transition electron microscope and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy depth profiles reveal that parasitic reactions promote more Ni reduction and O deficiency and even rock-salt phase transformation at the surface of cathode materials. Our observation suggests that surface reconstructions have a strong affiliation to parasitic reactions that create chemically acidic environment to etch away the lattice oxygen and offer the electrical charge to reduce the valence state of transition metal. Thus, this study advances our understanding on surface reconstructions of Nirich cathodes and prepares us for searching for rational strategies.

To develop a simple,validated method for identifying and quantifying 1,3-butadiene(BD) in human blood by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS) and head-space gas chromatography(HS-GC).BD was identified by GC-MS and HS-GC,and quantified by *** method showed that BD had a good linearity from 50 to 500μg/mL(r>0.99).The limits of detection and quantification were 10 μg/mL and 50 μg/mL,*** the intra-day precision and inter-day precision were applied to an actual case,and the concentration of BD in the case was 242 μg/mL in human *** simple method is found to be useful for the routine forensic analysis of acute exposure to BD.

In this work, the excitons distribution function in organic bulk hetero junction solar cells, at a depth z has been determined from solving the charge continuity equation, by exploiting the Laplace transform with appropriate boundary conditions. Next, the influence of the electron-hole pair separation distance on the excitons dissociation probability, the internal quantum efficiency and the binding energy, has been studied. The simulated results show that the probability density of the carriers photo generated depends on the generation rate, excitons dissociation and the charge carriers in the cells. The potential improvement of the internal quantum efficiency of charge generation depends on electron-hole pair separation distance, the excitons dissociation probability into free charges and depends strongly on the optical absorption of the photons in the active layer.

Contaminated sites from electronic waste(e-waste)dismantling and coking plants feature high concentrations of heavy metals(HMs)and/or polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs)in *** contamination(HMsþPAHs)hinders land reclamation and affects the microbial diversity and function of soil *** this study,we analyzed HM and PAH contamination from an e-waste dismantling plant and a coking plant and evaluated the influences of HM and PAH contamination on soil micro*** was noticed that HMs and PAHs were found in all sites,although the major contaminants of the e-waste dismantling plant site were HMs(such as Cu at 5,947.58±433.44 mg kg^(-1),Zn at 4,961.38±436.51 mg kg^(-1),and Mn at 2,379.07±227.46 mg kg^(-1)),and the major contaminants of the coking plant site were PAHs(such as fluorene at 11,740.06±620.1 mg kg^(-1),acenaphthylene at 211.69±7.04 mg kg^(-1),and pyrene at 183.14±18.89 mg kg^(-1)).The microbiomes(diversity and abundance)of all sites were determined via high-throughput sequencing of 16S rRNA genes,and redundancy analysis was conducted to investigate the relations between soil microbiomes and *** results showed that the microbiomes of the contaminated sites divergently responded to HMs and *** abundances of the bacterial genera Sulfuritalea,Pseudomonas,and Sphingobium were positively related to PAHs,while the abundances of the bacterial genera Bryobacter,Nitrospira,and Steroidobacter were positively related to *** study promotes an understanding of how soil microbiomes respond to single and mixed contamination with HMs and PAHs.

The evaluation of the microcirculatory bed functional state and the identification of angiospastic disorders with related complications,when the pathological changes are reversible,have an important role in medical *** aim of this study was to evaluate the possibility of using optical noninvasive methods and the cold pressor test to solve this problem.A total of 33 patients with rheumatological diseases and 32 healthy volunteers were included in the *** Doppler flowmetry,tissue reflectance oximetry and pulse oximetry were used as optical noninvasive *** parameters were recorded before,immediately after and 20 min after the cold pressor *** on the measured parameters,the complex parameters of the microcirculatory bed were calculated.A detailed statistical analysis of the parameter changes for each individual in the two groups displayed diverse microcirculatory bed parameter responses upon cold exposure,with differing recovery of parameters after *** diagnostic criteria were proposed for the identification of angiospastic *** to the proposed criteria,27 people of the volunteers group were confirmed to not display any *** the patient group,however,18 people were observed to have a relatively normal functional state of the microcirculatory bed,while 15 people were observed to have a possible tendency to *** highlight the diferences between a relatively normal state and presence of angiospastic disorders,statistical analysis of experimental data was carried out,which revealed significant *** analysis of data with angiospastic disorders identified a relationship between their diagnoses and the results of labo-ratory ***,the evaluation of combined noninvasive optical diagnostic method use,the cold pressor test and proposed diagnostic criteria showed a positive *** approach can be used to detect the presence of possible angiospastic disorders and related complications,as
