Family Cucurbitaceae is primarily found in the warmer regions of the world. It is the major family for economically important species, particularly edible fruits. In Pakistan cucurbits occupies an area of 28,600 ha with a very low production in Khyber Pukhtunkhwa due to many biotic and abiotic stresses. The reason is also the lack of growers’ awareness about the diseases and the cultural practices adopted to provide favorable environment for development of epidemics. Viral diseases such as Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) cause losses as high as 100%. Various control strategies are being used to control CMV. The aim of the current study was to screen out different verities and to find the most resistant one against CMV. CMV isolate was collected from farmer’s field at the site of TaruJaba during a survey of cucurbit crops. The identity of the virus was confirmed through DAS-ELISA using diagnostic kit (ADGEN, UK). Seventeen cucumber germplasm seeds were sown in earthen pots in which fourteen were germinated and exhibited characteristics symptoms of the virus while none of them showed resistance against CMV. Symptoms’ expression was delayed in summer green and local green till 12 days post inoculation. While in khyber, Diamond, VEGAF1 and Yousaf, symptoms started to appear soon after inoculation categorizing them as highly susceptible. No resistance is found in available commercial germplasm, so more germplasm from different area of Pakistan should be tested for resistance against CMV. If no resistance is found locally imported, germplasm can be evaluated for a source of resistance against the prevalent isolates of CMV.

Damage to spinal cord (SC) often produces long-lasting functional deficits involving sensory and movement. After injuries, SC may perform a series of changes, which injured neurons may suffer death, persistent atrophy or recovery, while damaged axons initially show a growth response, but later their regeneration is aborted as a dense permanent scar is laid down within the core of the wound. Clinically, functional recovery from such injuries is poor and morbidity is severe. Consequently, the prevalence of patients permanently disabled from spinal cord injury (SCI) is high, estimated at more than 1∶1000 of the population of North America (Office of Technology Assessment USA, 1990) [1] .

As one of the most common tumors in women, breast cancer has drawn considerable interest from investigators and clinicians in recent years. Despite early diagnosis and best therapeutic regimens available, the prognosis of malignant or metastatic breast cancer patients is still not optimistic. Hedgehog signaling, a classical pathway indispensable to embryonic development, participates in the growth of a variety of tumors. In the present study,the effect of Sonic Hedgehog(Shh) on breast cancer cells was investigated. We identified that Shh signal stimulated the migration of MCF-7 breast cancer cells. Smo and Gli1 were involved in Shh-stimulated migration of MCF-7 cells. Activating Smo and Gli1 induced cell migration, which was blocked by their specific *** effect of Shh signaling on MCF-7 cells was independent of Wnt5 a, Dvl2 and Rab35, but directly dependent on Rac1. In conclusion, our study suggested that Shh promotes breast cancer cell migration via Rac1 independently of the non-canonical Wnt signaling pathway, which may represent a rational molecular target for combination medication in breast cancer.

BACKGROUND Based on the breakthrough of genomics analysis, The Cancer Genome Atlas Research Group recently proposed an integrative genomic analysis, dividing gastric cancer(GC) into four subtypes, characterized by the chromosomal instability(CIN) status. However, the CIN status of GC is still vaguely characterized and lacking the valuable easy-to-use CIN markers to diagnosis in molecular and histological *** To explore the associations of CIN with downstream lipidomics *** We collected cancerous and noncancerous tissue samples from 18 patients with GC; the samples were divided into CIN and non-CIN types based on the system of The Cancer Genome Atlas Research Group and 409 sequenced oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes. We identified the lipidomics profiles of the GC samples and samples of their adjacent noncancerous tissues by using liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry. Furthermore, we selected leading metabolites based on variable importance in projection scores of > 1.0 and P <*** Twelve men and six women participated in this study; the participants had a median age of 67.5 years(range, 52–87 years) and were divided into CIN(n = 9)and non-CIN(n = 9) groups. The GC samples exhibited distinct profiles of lysophosphocholine, phosphocholine, phosphatidylethanolamine,phosphatidylinositol, phosphoserine, sphingomyelin, ceramide, and triglycerides compared with their adjacent noncancerous tissues. The glycerophospholipid levels(phosphocholine, phosphatidylethanolamine, and phosphatidylinositol)were 1.4-to 2.3-times higher in the CIN group compared with the non-CIN group(P < 0.05). Alterations in the glycerolipid and glycerophospholipid pathways indicated progression of GC toward *** The lipidomics profiles of GC samples were distinct from those of their adjacent noncancerous tissues. In-Vitro Efficacy of Certain Essential Oils and Plant Extracts against Three Major Pathogens of Jatropha curcas L.

Antifungal activity of plant extracts and essential oils of six different plant species was tested against three pathogenic fungi, viz., Alternaria alternata, Colletotrichum gloeosporioides and Fusarium moniliforme isolated from Jatropha curcas L. using Poison Food Technique. All the samples tested were found effective in-vitro. More than 60% inhibition of growth of individual fungal species was observed at 100 ppm. Maximum inhibition was observed at concentration of 1000 ppm. However, among the essential oils tested Cinnamomum impressinervium exhibited the strongest activity (80%) in the case of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides and Alternaria alternate and 78.6% in the case of Fusarium oxysporum at concentration of 1000 ppm followed by Cinnamomum tamala, Cymbopogon jwarancusa and Cymbopogon citratus respectively. Among the plant extracts tested, Catharanthus roseus exhibited stronger activity in comparison to Tithonia diversifolia. Inhibition percentage of all the essential oils and plant extracts increased with the increase in concentration.

Objective:Androgen deprivation therapy(ADT)is still the principal treatment option for prostate cancer(PCa).In addition to reactivation of androgen receptor signaling,the resistance of PCa to apoptosis during ADT also contributes to castration resistant PCa(CRPC).A previous study reported that gene transfer of IL-13Rα2 into PCa cells sensitized the cells to the IL-13R-targeted cytotoxin IL13Rα1,leading to *** with IL-13Rα2,IL13Rα1 is more constitutively expressed in PCa cells,but its function in PCa remains to be ***:We determined the role and expression of IL13Rα1 in PCa cancer cells using western blotting,flow cytometry,and cell proliferation ***-immunoprecipitation and mass spectrometry were used to identify the proteins that interacted with IL13Rα1,to elucidate its ***:In this study,we showed that IL13Rα1 was selectively suppressed in androgen-deprived PCa cells and that its suppression tended to be associated with poor prognoses of PCa ***13Rα1 overexpression promoted apoptosis and inhibited tumor growth under androgen-deprived or castrated conditions(P<0.01).Mechanistically,IL13Rα1 recruited and facilitated ubiquitin protein ligase E3C-mediated ubiquitination and degradation of hexokinase 2(HK2),resulting in glycolytic inhibition and eventually leading to PCa cell ***,our data revealed that mutated ataxia-telangiectasia kinase phosphorylated and facilitated the selective ubiquitin proteasome-mediated degradation of ***,IL13Rα1-overexpressing PCa cells were more susceptible to apoptosis and exhibited reduced tumor growth after exposure to the HK2 inhibitor,2-deoxy-D-glucose(P<0.01).Conclusions:Our data identified a tumor suppressor role for IL13Rα1 in preventing the resistance of PCa cells to apoptosis during androgen deprivation by inhibiting ***13Rα1-mediated signaling involving HK2 may therefore provide a novel treatment target and strategy for CRPC.
