The impact of OFDI on firm pro-environmental behavior:Evidence from China

Outward Foreign Direct Investment(OFDI)is a crucial decision in the internationalization strategy of firms and they confront diversified environmental policies and practices of host countries,when engaging in cross-border ***,there is a lack of research to investigate whether foreign direct investment(OFDI)is an important factor affecting the environmental commitment of *** study aims to empirically analyze the impact and mechanism by which firm outward foreign direct investment(OFDI)influences pro-environmental commitments,utilizing data collected from Chinese listed companies between 2010 and *** results show:1)there is a significant positive relationship between firm OFDI and pro-environmental commitments;2)mechanistic tests show that the OFDI can promote pro-environmental commitments through two channels:public attention and technological learning capacity;3)heterogeneity analysis reveals that the green effects of OFDI are more pronounced firms with institutional investors and state ownership,as well as in firms situated in host countries with more stringent environmental regulations;4)further analysis reveals OFDI-induced greater green commitments generated real environmental and economic outcomes:firms invested more in environmental protection and reduced CO_(2)*** the meantime,they experienced lower excessive debt risk and higher innovative *** findings have positive implications for the promotion of firms’pro-environmental behavior and sustainable development.

The so called witchetty grub is a publicized food source for Australian Aborig- ines. Despite heavy use, the identities and number of species consumed is still not known because of the lack of identified voucher specimens. Taxonomy based on adults makes identification of larval forms difficult. Dwelling in the root, trunks, and stems of woody plants, grubs are a reliable and highly valued food source that may be in decline. Much information on edible insects may already be lost in parts of Australia heavily settled by Europeans. However, there are many parts of Australia where information on edible insects is still strong and needs to be recorded accurately for long-term use. Recent iden- tification of＂witchetty grubs＂ from the witchetty bush at Barrow Creek has revealed that those there, based on their DNA, are not Endoxyla leucomochla. As grubs are collected and eaten before they mature and scientific taxonomy is based on adults, there are many unanswered questions on the grub identification and biology, host plants, and plant and grub distributions.

Raising capital amid economic policy uncertainty:an empirical investigation

This paper investigates how economic policy uncertainty affects firms’frequency and their choice of financial instruments to raise *** applying a three-step sequential framework over a sample of 6834 publicly listed US non-financial firms,we find that during periods of high economic uncertainty,firms raise capital more frequently with a preference toward debt *** empirical findings suggest that firms prefer debt financing over equity financing to avoid ownership dilution and high equity *** rise in leverage during periods of high economic uncertainty highlights the importance of scrutinizing policy tools used to stabilize the economy during such times.

Exploring overweight and obesity beyond body mass index:A body composition analysis in people with and without patellofemoral pain

Background:We compared body mass index(BMI),body fat,and skeletal muscle mass between(1) a mixed-sex nonathletic cohort of people with patellofemoral pain(PFP) and pain-free people,and(2) a nonathletic cohort of people with PFP and pain-free people subgrouped by sex(i.e.,men and women with PFP ***-free men and women).Methods:This cross-sectional study included 114 people with PFP(71 women,43 men) and 54 pain-free controls(32 women,22 men).All participants attended a single testing session to assess body composition measures,which included BMI,percentage of body fat(%BFBioimpedance),and skeletal muscle mass(both assessed by bioelectrical impedance analysis),and percentage of body fat(%BFskinfoid)(assessed by skinfold caliper analysis).A one-way univariate analysis of covariance(age and physical activity levels as covariates) was used to compare body composition measures between groups(i.e.,PFP ***-free group;women with PFP ***-free women;men with PFP ***-free men).Results:Women with PFP presented significantly higher BMI,%BFBiompedance,and %BFSkinfold,and lower skeletal muscle mass compared to pain-free women(p≤0.04;effect size:-0.47 to 0.85).Men with PFP and men and women combined had no differences in BMI,%BFBioimpedance,%BFSkinfold,and skeletal muscle mass compared to their respective pain-free groups(p> 0.05).Conclusion:Our findings indicate that BMI and body composition measures should be considered as part of the evaluation and management of people with PFP,especially in women,who have demonstrated higher BMI and body fat and lower skeletal muscle mass compared to pain-free *** studies should not assess body composition measures in a mixed-sex population without distinguishing men participants from women participants.

Overweight and obesity in young adults with patellofemoral pain:Impact on functional capacity and strength

Purpose:This study aimed to(a)investigate the proportion of overweight/obesity in a cohort of young adults with patellofemoral pain(PFP)and(b)explore the association of body mass index(BMI),body fat,and lean mass with functional capacity and hip and knee strength in people with ***:We included a mixed-sex sample of young adults(18-35 years old)with PFP(n=100).Measurements for BMI,percentage of body fat,and lean mass(assessed by bioelectrical impedance)were *** capacity was assessed by the Anterior Knee Pain Scale,plank test,and single-leg hop *** of the knee extensors,knee flexors,and hip abductors was evaluated isometrically using an isokinetic *** proportion of overweight/obesity was calculated based on *** association between BMI,body fat,and lean mass and functional capacity and strength was investigated using partial correlations,followed by hierarchical regression analysis,adjusted for covariates(sex,bilateral pain,and current pain level).Results:A total of 38%of our cohort had their BMI categorized as overweight/*** BMI was associated with poor functional capacity(ΔR^(2)=0.06-0.12,p<0.001)and with knee flexion strength only(ΔR^(2)=0.04,p=0.030).Higher body fat was associated with poor functional capacity(ΔR^(2)=0.05-0.15,p≤0.015)and reduced strength(ΔR^(2)=0.15-0.23,p<0.001).Lower lean mass was associated with poor functional capacity(ΔR^(2)=0.04-0.13,p≤0.032)and reduced strength(ΔR^(2)=0.29-0.31,p<0.001).Conclusion:BMI,body fat,and lean mass should be considered in the assessment and management of young people with PFP because it may be detrimental to function and strength.

Data-driven Approach for State Prediction and Detection of False Data Injection Attacks in Smart Grid

In a smart grid,state estimation(SE)is a very important component of energy management *** main functions include system SE and detection of cyber ***,it has been shown that conventional SE techniques are vulnerable to false data injection(FDI)attack,which is a sophisticated new class of attacks on data integrity in smart *** main contribution of this paper is to propose a new FDI attack detection technique using a new data-driven SE model,which is different from the traditional weighted least square based SE *** SE model has a number of unique advantages compared with traditional SE ***,the prediction technique can better maintain the inherent temporal correlations among consecutive measurement ***,the proposed SE model can learn the actual power system ***,this paper shows that this SE model can be effectively used to detect FDI attacks that otherwise remain stealthy to traditional SE-based bad data *** proposed FDI attack detection technique is evaluated on a number of standard bus *** performance of state prediction and the accuracy of FDI attack detection are benchmarked against the state-ofthe-art *** results show that the proposed FDI attack detection technique has a higher detection rate compared with the existing techniques while reducing the false alarms significantly.

Requirement Engineering for E-Coaching in Higher Education

This paper presents a requirement engineering for developing an e-coaching environment in the higher education sector. This research demonstrates that IT experts encounter challenges in establishing a system that matches a university’s expectations, as they are usually uncertain about its goals and system requirements. The paper illustrates a business goal-focused requirement induction technique, which encompasses demonstrating the business procedures through business Process Modelling Notation (BPMN), assessing the university goals via the tree diagram, and drawing out the system requirements from the university objectives through UML state diagrams. A case study of supporting the development of a new IT course is used as a case study and applied using BPMN.

Respiration and Sorption of Water-Extractable Organic Carbon as Affected by Addition of Ca^(2+),Isolated Clay or Clay-Rich Subsoil to Sand

Clay addition to light-textured soils is used to ameliorate water repellency and to increase nutrient retention. However, clay addition may also increase the potential to bind organic matter and thus C sequestration. Divalent calcium ions （Ca2＋） play an important role in binding of organic matter to clay because they provide the bridge between the clay particles and organic matter which are both negatively charged. In the first experiment, quartz sand was mixed with clay isolated from a Vertosol at rates of 0, 50 and 300 g kg-1, finely ground mature wheat residues （20 g kg-1） and powdered CaSO4 at 0, 5 and 10 g kg-1. Soil respiration was measured over 28 d. Compared to the sand alone, addition of isolated clay at 300 g kg-1 increased cumulative respiration with a stronger increase than that at 50 g kg-1. Addition of CaSO4 increased electrical conductivity, decreased sodium adsorption ratio and reduced cumulative respiration. The latter can be explained by enhanced sorption of organic matter to clay via Ca2＋ bridges. In a second experiment, isolated clay or subsoil of the Vertosol without or with powdered CaSO4 at 10 g kg-1 were used for a batch sorption with water-extractable organic C （WEOC） from wheat straw followed by desorption with water. Addition of 10 g kg-1 CaSO4 increased sorption and decreased desorption of WEOC in both subsoil and isolated clay. In the third experiment, subsoil of the Vertosol was used for a batch sorption in which WEOC was added repeatedly. Repeated addition of WEOC increased the concentration of sorbed C but decreased the sorbed proportion of the added WEOC. This indicates that sorption of WEOC may be underestimated if it is added only once in batch sorption experaments.
