Spatiotemporal variation of rainy season span and precipitation recorded by lacustrine laminated pollen in the Tibetan Plateau during the past two millennia

The quantitative reconstruction of the length of the rainy season and precipitation on the Tibetan Plateau(TP) is crucial for revealing the spatiotemporal evolution of the Westerlies and Asian summer monsoon, as well as its ecological and environmental effects. Accurately determining the start and end times of the rainy season on the Plateau remains *** study determined the start and end times of the rainy season in different locations on the Plateau by identifying precipitation inflection points. We calculated the duration and precipitation amount of the rainy season and established a transfer function between the modern pollen assemblages and them. Then, we reconstructed the rainy season variations in Kusai Lake(northern TP) and Jiang Co(central TP) during the past two millennia. The results showed that, the rainy season precipitation in Kusai Lake recorded five periods of high precipitation: AD 580–680, 1000–1100, 1200–1450, 1550–1780, and 1920–present, corresponding to the stages with long rainy season. The rainy season precipitation sequence in Jiang Co recorded four periods of high precipitation: AD 80–500, 800–950, 1250–1450, and 1780–present, which is consistent with the long rainy season before AD 1000 but unclear afterward. Spatially, rainy season precipitation on the Plateau exhibited four patterns: “wet in both north and south” may be related to abnormally strong summer monsoons;“dry in both north and south” likely associated with weak Westerly wind and weak summer monsoon;“wet in the south and dry in the north” linked to strong summer monsoon and weak Westerly wind;and “dry in the south and wet in the north” connected to weak summer monsoon and strong Westerly wind. This study revealed the spatiotemporal evolution pattern of the rainy season onset and end, duration, and precipitation amount on the Plateau over the past two millennia. It provides natural background support for further understanding the coupling between Westerly wind and Asia

Effects of environmentally relevant concentrations of micro(nano)plastics on aquatic microorganisms:Changes in potential function but not in overall composition

Micro(nano)plastics(MNPs)are a growing problem as persistent environmental ***,we investigated the impact of MNPs on microorganisms in aquatic microbial floc exposed to NPs(80 nm)and MPs(8μm)for 35 *** quality indicators were tested weekly and microbiological analyses were conducted on Day 7 and 28 after *** results showed that there were significant differences in the levels of total ammonia nitrogen or nitrite between the MNPs groups and the control group,spanning from Day 7 to Day *** the microbial response,microbial community richness in the NPs and MPs groups were significantly increased at Day *** prediction showed that the relative abundances of bacteria associated with the“Forms Biofilms”,“Potentially Pathogenic”,“Plastic Degradation”and nitrogen cycle processes were significantly different after MNPs *** results suggest that MNPs had no significant effect on the microbial diversity of mature microbial *** suggest MPs could cause an increase in the relative abundance of potentially pathogenic bacteria,while NPs do *** addition,stress associated with MNPs affected the nitrogen cycle of microorganisms,and NPs exerted greater impacts than *** from this study further our understanding of the impact of MNPs at environmentally relevant concentrations on microorganisms in aquatic ecosystems.

New discovery of the early Silurian fossil fish Changxingaspis(Xiushuiaspidae,Galeaspida),Changxingaspis nianzhongi *** ***,are described from the Tataertag Formation in Tarim Basin and the Kangshan Formation in Zhejiang Province,*** mainly differs from *** in the shape of the median dorsal opening that is transverse elliptic with a width/length ratio of about 3.0,the long lateral transverse canals extending to the lateral margin of the headshield,and the second lateral transverse canal with dichotomous *** of *** from the Tataertag Formation and *** from the Kangshan Formation provide direct evidence on the specific level for the correlation between these two formations,which further supports the Silurian fish-bearing red beds in northwest Zhejiang belonging to the Silurian Lower Red Beds(LRBs)rather than the Upper Red Beds(URBs).Additionally,as the first record of the Changxingaspis in Tarim Basin,it extends the paleogeographical distribution of this genus from the South China Block to the Tarim Block,providing new evidence to support faunal exchanges between these two blocks and the hypothesis of a united Tarim-South China Block during the early Silurian.

Unsaturated ketones are typical oxygenated volatile organic compounds(OVOCs)with high reactivity,and are important precursors in air *** sources of OVOCs are complex and include direct emissions and secondary oxidation formation of VOCs in the atmosphere.2-Cyclohexen-1-one is a widespread substance,and is derived from the industrial catalytic oxidation of *** this paper,we investigated the rate constants of the chemical reactions of 2-cyclohexen-1-one with NO_(3) radicals,which is(7.25±0.29)×10^(-15) cm^(3)·molecule^(-1)·s^(-1) at 298 K and under 1 atm(1 atm=101325Pa).It supplemented the kinetics of NO_(3) radicals database,and revealed its effects in the nighttime *** addition,the reaction products of 2-cyclohexen-1-one with NO_(3) radicals were detected by Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry(FT-ICR MS),which revealed a series of nitrate esters in the composition of the secondary organic aerosol(SOA),which may reduce atmospheric ***,the possible pathways for the generation of the products were developed.

Molecular origin for pH-responsive wormlike micelles of zwitterionic surfactants triggered by aromatic acid derivatives

Introduction of aromatic acid derivatives(AADs)into zwitterionic surfactants is an efficient method to prepare wormlike micelles with pH-controllable viscosity;however,the coincident molecular origin of AAD/zwitterionic surfactant binary mixtures remains ***,the self-assembly of hydroxyl derivatives of benzoic acid(BA)and cetyldimethyl betaine(BS-16)mixtures in water was systematically assessed,and various factors,such as the molecular structure,molar ratio of AAD and BS-16,and solution pH,were *** structure-property relationship of AAD/BS-16 binary mixtures was established,which provided the molecular origin for the effect of AAD on micellar microstructures and the pH-induced morphological *** ortho-substituted hydroxyl moiety in the BA molecule facilitated the formation of larger wormlike micelles,whereas the effect of the meta-substituted moiety was less *** para-substituted hydroxyl moiety in BA did not favor micellar *** moiety exhibited similar characteristics to the increasing hydroxyl moiety number in the AAD molecules or solution pH where the negative effects of steric hindrance and electrostatic interactions of molecules in micelles aredominant.

Birds exhibit a high degree of migratory diversity,which is influenced by various ecological factors and life history *** studies on tropical bird migration,of which research is scarce,and comparing it with temperate birds can enhance our understanding of bird migration behaviour and its underlying *** this study,we explored the migration behaviour of a breeding population of the Barn Swallow(Hirundo rustica)in Zhanjiang,southern China,a region located in the northern tropics,using light-level *** 2021 to 2023,we deployed geolocators on 92 breeding swallows and retrieved geolocators successfully from 23 *** swallows all exhibited migratory behaviour,and wintering on various islands in Southeast *** displayed sex differences in their wintering *** males concentrated in Borneo,while females primarily chose Borneo but also dispersed to the Philippines,South China Sea,and Vietnam for *** studied swallow population adopted a seasonal migration pattern of“indirect in autumn,direct in spring”,bypassing the ecological barrier of the South China Sea in autumn and tending to directly cross it in spring ***,the distance and duration of autumn migration was significantly longer than those of the spring *** to temperate Barn Swallows,the Barn Swallow population breeding in Zhanjiang adopts a pattern of“intra-tropical migration”and initiates autumn migration *** formation of their migration pattern may be limited by ecological and physiological factors.

Characterization,expression dynamics,and potential function of OPA1 for regulation of mitochondrial morphology during spermiogenesis in Phascolosoma esculenta
