A composite In-Pb:carbon was successfully synthetized by a two-step mechanochemical synthesis in order to obtain an adequate particles size and structure to investigate the electrochemical reactivity of the In-Pb solid solution towards Mg.A potential synergetic coupling of electroactive elements In and Pb was examined using electrochemical and ex situ X-ray diffraction *** potential profile of the solid solution indicates the formation of Mg_(2)Pb and Mg ***,the diffraction study suggests a peculiar electrochemically-driven amorphization of Mg In during the magnesiation,in strong contrast to Mg In crystallization in In-based and In Bi-based electrodes reported in the *** In and Pb favors the amorphization of Mg In and a high first magnesiation capacity of about 550 m Ah g^(-1),but is thereafter detrimental to the material’s *** results emphasize the possible influence of electrochemically-driven amorphization and crystallization processes on electrochemical performance of battery materials.

Imogolite is a natural nanotubular aluminum silicate clay mineral found in volcanic soils. Its well-defined, tunable structure makes it a good candidate for studying water confinement in a one-dimensional （1D） structure. Water confinement in self-sustaining imogolite thin films was studied using infrared spectroscopy. Two types of synthetic imogolites were investigated： pristine imogolite （IMO-OH） with a hydrophilic inner surface covered with Si-OH groups and hybrid imogolite （IMO-CH3） with a hydrophobic inner surface covered with Si-CH3 groups. Both imogolites have an outer surface that is covered with Al-OH groups. Infrared spectra were recorded in the 20-4,000 cm^-1 spectral range as a function of relative humidity. Analysis of the O-H stretching band provides information on the H bonding of confined water molecules inside and outside the IMO-OH tubes. The scenario for water filling as a function of relative humidity is determined for both systems. Adsorption begins in the IMO-OH tubes at the lowest relative humidity （〈 10%）. The inner surface of the tubes is first covered with water molecules; then, the central part of the tubes is filled, leading to very strong H bonds and a structured spectrum. In contrast, the H bonds of water adsorbed on the outer surfaces of these tubes are weaker. A different scenario is observed for water inside IMO-CH3： Weakly H-bonded water molecules are present, similar to that observed in carbon nanotubes. Water confinement in imogolites is governed by the hydrophilicity of the inner walls. At similar partial pressures, the degree of H bonding depends on the interactions between water and the nanotube wall.

A simple hand calculation method based on group theory is proposed to predict the near field maps of finite metallic nanoparticles(MNP)of canonical geometries:prism,cube,hexagon,disk,sphere,*** to low order localized surface plasmon resonance *** this article,we report the principles of the group theory approach and demonstrate,through several examples,the general character of the group theory method which can be applied to describe the plasmonic response of particles of finite or infinite symmetry point *** validation is achieved by collection of high-resolution subwavelength near-field maps by photoemission electron microscopy(PEEM)on a representative set of Au colloidal particles exhibiting either finite(hexagon)or infinite(disk,sphere)symmetry point groups.

Single wail carbon nanotubes （SWNTs） are known for their exceptional electronic properties. However, most of the synthesis methods lead to the production of a mixture of carbon nanotubes having different chiralities associated with metallic （m-SWNTs） and semiconducting （s-SWNTs） characteristics. For application purposes, effective methods for separating these species are highly desired. Here, we report a protocol for achieving a highly selective separation of s-SWNTs that exhibit a fundamental optical transition centered at 1,550 nm. We employ a polymer assisted sorting approach, and the influence of preparation methods on the optical and transport performances of the separated nanotubes is analyzed. As even traces of m-SWNTs can critically affect performances, we aim to produce samples that do not contain any detectable fraction of residual m-SWNTs.

Important technological and physics issues related to steady-state operationrequired for next step are being examined on Tore Supra, after a major upgrade of internalcomponents in order to increase the heat extraction capability to 25 MW for 1000 s. Here, we showfirst experimental results, where all the plasma facing components were actively cooled duringpulses exceeding four minutes, with reactor-relevant heat load. New physics was observed innon-inductively driven plasmas, including a stationary peaked radial profile of the plasma densitygenerated by an anomalous inward pinch; and a regime characterized by sinusoidal oscillations ofcentral electron temperature, governed by non-linear coupling between heat transport and plasmacurrent analogous to a predator-prey mechanism.

Several aspects of the internal structure of pseudoscalar mesons,accessible through generalized parton distri-butions in their zero-skewness limit,are *** include electromagnetic and gravitational form factors related to charge and mass densities;and distributions in the impact parameter *** this end,we employ an algebraically viable framework that is based upon the valence-quark generalized parton distribution expressed explicitly in terms of the associated distribution function and a profile function that governs the off-forward *** predominantly analytical nature of this scheme yields several algebraic results and relations while also facilitating the exploration of insightful limiting *** a suitable input distribution function,guided either by experiment or theory,and with an appropriate choice of the profile function,it is possible to provide testable predictions for spatial distributions of valence quarks inside pseudoscalar *** comparison is possible,these predictions align well with existing experimental data as well as the findings of reliable theoretical approaches and lattice QCD.
