Influences of spherical tree canopy on thermal radiation disturbance to exterior wall under the condition of no shade cast on the wall

Research on the influence of thermal radiation of tree canopies to adjacent exterior walls has relevance to the selection of tree species and the spatial arrangement of trees for urban planning.In the last decade,there have been many studies on the influence of tree shadows on the thermal environment and energy consumption of buildings.However,there is a lack of research on how trees affect the thermal radiation of adjacent buildings,when they do not cast direct shadows on the walls.In view of this,a combination of experiment and simulation was used to explore the influence of spherical canopy on the intensity changes of net long-wave thermal radiation(T_(RDL))and net short-wave thermal radiation(T_(RDS))absorbed by the adjacent wall.Both measured and simulated results show that the tree canopy has a T_(RD)(the sum of T_(RDL) and T_(RDS))effect on the south wall of adjacent buildings in summer.The peak of T_(RD) from the tree to the adjacent wall was obtained by ENVI-met under 27 scenarios.A functional relationship was further given between the peak T_(RD) and the canopy diameter(D_(C)),the minimum distance between wall and tree canopy(D_(W-T)).Moreover,the influence of D_(C),D_(W-T) and leaf area density(LAD)on T_(RD) was discussed by simulation.Additionally,the Trd of canopy decays exponentially in the horizontal direction and linearly in the vertical direction of the wall.The above methods and results can guide the selection of tree species,green space design around buildings and the evaluation of the influence of trees on indoor cooling energy consumption in summer.

Comparative Study on Energy Consumption Structure of Ordinary Rural Households and Rural Tourism Households in Zhejiang Province, China

With the rapid development of rural tourism in China, more and more rural households operate a rural tourism business. The purpose of this study is to understand the energy consumption characteristic of ordinary rural households (ORHs) and rural tourism households (RTHs) in the mountainous area and islands area in Zhejiang province. 225 households were surveyed, including 185 ORHs and 40 RTHs, based on a field survey in Quzhou (mountainous area) and Zhoushan (islands area). Results reveal that energy consumption of ORHs is low, but energy comsumption of RTHs is high, about 3 to 5 times higher than that of ORHs. Given the results, the government and RTHs should pay more attention to take measures to reduce energy comsumption. Meanwhile, the factors affecting households’ energy consumption are also analyzed. Energy consumption of ORHs is affected by frequently used area, family income level and permanent population. Then energy consumption of RTHs is mainly related to the total building area, number of air conditioner (AC), number of guestrooms and family income level.

Characterization of a new total heat recovery system using CaCl_(2) as working fluid:Thermal modeling and physical analysis

This paper introduces a kind of open cycle absorption heat wet flue gas heat recovery system,which use CaCl_(2) as the working medium.The system will use the wet heat recovery method and combined with an efficient heat pump system for flue gas as a heat source generator.Through direct contact with the solution in the absorber,the flue gas is going to carry out gas,liquid heat transfer between heat exchanger,realization of sensible heat and latent heat step by step.As the key part of the system,absorber is established by one-dimensional steady-state heat transfer and mass transfer model.This paper uses the finite difference method to model the discrete numerical methods,and an-alyzes the characteristics of heat and mass transfer in the absorber.We obtain the concentration curves of the three kinds of working medium’s temperature and flow along the height direction.We also analyze the influence of CaCl_(2) solution parameters changes on the absorption process,parsing the reason of the temperature change by analyzing the three working medium’s energy flow trend.We found that the temperature change of flue gas is non-monotonic,which decreases gradually in the range of absorption tower height 0-0.9 m,and then increases gradually.The reason for this change is that sensible heat exchange and latent heat exchange exist between flue gas and solution.Although such a change has an impact on the efficiency of the system,it prevents the"white smoke"from condensing in the air,which effectively protects the environment.Compared with conventional LiBr absorption heat pump,the system constructed in this paper has certain advantages in latent heat recovery,flue gas heat energy utilization,energy conservation and emission reduction and economy.

Country and My People and Sydney Opera House:The missing link

It is known that Jφrn Utzon(1918-2008),the principal architect for the Sydney Opera House project(1957-66),had a lifetime obsession for Chinese art and architecture.However,previous studies did not explore the relationship between Utzon and his venerated Chinese writer lin Yutang(1895-1976).How Utzon represented the ideas and ideals he received from lin Yutang's conceptualization of Chinese art and architecture in My Country and My People(1935)has not been systematically documented.To this end,this article examines the role of lin Yutang's work in Utzon's architectural career generally and the architect's Sydney Opera House design in particular.It argues that My Country and My People nurtured young Utzon's own architectural philosophy,as reflected in his early manifestoes and design projects.Eventually,lin Yutang's Chinese aesthetics encapsulated in calligraphy,painting and architecture helped Utzon to initiate,articulate and further communicate the design principles of his Sydney Opera House,as well as several other important architectural works before and after.Although Utzon never fully realized his Opera House due to forced resignation in 1966,the inspiration from lin Yutang vividly remains in Utzon's yet to be finished masterpiece.

With current resources shortages and environmental destruction,one of the important methods in building energy saving is to develop passive design and technologies. "E-concave",which is one of the entries in the Solar Decathlon 2013,has the core concepts of"Saving",Comfort","Unitization"and"Technology"and brings passive strategies( layout,insulation,daylighting,ventilation,material,etc.) into the design. This article aims to explore the utilization of passive design in solar detached houses through the studies on E-concave and tries to be an example to the development of sustainable buildings in China.

Luminescence properties of rare earth complexes bonded to novel mesoporous spherical hybrid materials

YVO_(4):Eu^(3+) phosphors have been widely used in optoelectronic integration fields of its chemical and thermal stability.However,the excitation spectrum band of VO_(4)^(3-) is too narrow for high-efficiency luminescence,restricting its further development.Herein,flower-like and linear-like YVO_(4):Eu^(3+) hollow mesoporous spheres were synthesized and connected with Eu organic ligand,to obtain a new hybrid luminescent material.The characterization shows that the pores of microspheres are in size of about 2-50 nm,sticked with regular morphology,well crystallized,and in uniform distribution.The emission intensity of hybrid luminescent material is higher than that of single YVO_(4):Eu^(3+) and single Eu co mplexes realizing the purpose of mutually reinforcing luminesce nce.This paper provides a new idea to connect rare earth complexes for a new non-silicon-based mesoporous spherical matrix.

Experimental Investigation on Compressive Properties of Fiber Recycled Aggregate Concrete

This paper presents an experimental study to explore the compressive properties of fiber recycled aggregate concrete.A total of 75 specimens with the replacement rate of recycled coarse aggregate and fiber type were conducted under a uniaxial compressive test.The failure modes,stress-strain whole curves,peak stress,peak strain,and energy dissipation capacity were systematically observed and revealed.Test results indicate that steel fiber has the best modification effect on energy dissipation capacity and the toughness index of recycled concrete,corresponding to the enhancement of 81.75% and 22.90% on average.The addition of polyvinyl alcohol fiber can effectively improve the compressive strength and energy dissipation capacity of recycled aggregate concrete by 28.49% and 29.43% on average,respectively.The compressive strength and energy dissipation capacity of recycled aggregate concrete is increased by an average of 16.5% and 24.4% by incorporating carbon fiber.The energy dissipation capacity of recycled aggregate concrete is increased by an average of 13.5% with the incorporation of polypropylene fiber.However,the addition of carbon fiber results in a slight reduction of toughness by 16.97%,and the effect of polyvinyl alcohol fiber on the energy dissipation capacity is limited.Besides,with the increase in replacement rate,the compressive strength and the energy dissipation capacity of recycled coarse aggregate concrete with fiber decreased,and toughness first decreased and then increased.Finally,based on the analysis of test data,a segment-based stress-strain model of fiber recycled aggregate concrete was proposed,which shows good agreement with the test results.
