Coupling of wave and current numerical model with unstructured quadtree grid for nearshore coastal waters

This paper presents 2D wave-current interaction model for evaluating nearly horizontal wave-induced currents in the surf-zone and coastal *** hydrodynamic model is the two-dimensional depth-averaged nonlinear shallow water equations by using an unstructured non-staggered and multiple-level quadtree rectangular mesh,this mesh information is stored in simple data structures and it is easy to obtain a locally high resolution for important *** intercell fluxes are computed based on the HLL(Harten-Lax-van Leer) approximate Riemann solver with shock capturing capability for computing the dry-to-wet interface of coastal *** effects of pressure and gravity are included in source term in the model,this treatment can simplify the computation and eliminate numerical imbalance between source and flux *** wave model readily provides the radiation stresses that represent the shortwave-averaged forces in a water column for the hydrodynamic model and the wave model takes into account the effect of wave-induced nearshore currents and water *** coupling model is applied to verify different experimental cases and real life case of considering the wave-current *** calculated results agree with analytical solution,experimental and field *** results show that the modeling approach presented herein should be useful in simulating the nearshore processes in complicated natural coastal domains.

Modeling and simulation(M&S)play a critical role in both engineering and basic research ***-based models have existed since the 1950s,and those early models have given way to the more complex computational and physics-based simula-tions used *** such,a great deal of research has been done to establish what level of trust should be given to simulation outputs and how to verify and validate the mod-els used in these *** paper presents an overview of the theoretical work done to date defining formal definitions for,and methods of,verification and validation(V&V)of computer *** models are broken down into three broad cate-gories:analytical and simulation models,computational and physics-based models,and simulations of autonomous systems,and the unique theories and methods developed to address V&V of these models are *** paper also presents the current prob-lems in the theoretical field of V&V for models as simulations move from single system models and simulations to more complex simulation *** particular,this paper high-lights the lack of agreed-upon methods for V&V of simulations of autonomous systems,such as an autonomous unmanned vehicles,and proposes some next steps needed to address this problem.

Aim:To analyze RhoA expression and activation in the aorta of diabetic ***:Male SD rats (n=70) were divided into 2 groups:the diabetic group andthe control *** was induced by intravenous injection of streptozotocin(55mg/kg).The Rats were studied 3 weeks after the induction of ***-ern blotting was used to measure the expression and activation of ***:Heart rate was measured 24h/d;it decreased by 58±13 beats/min in the *** tension showed that the contraction of diabetic aorta was signifi-cantly reduced compared with that of control aorta when stimulated by KC1 *** relaxation of the diabetic aorta was reduced when stimulated *** enhanced RhoA translocation in the aortic tissues of diabeticrats was determined by a 90% increase in membrane-bound RhoA,indicating thatthe activation of RhoA is markedly increased in the diabetic ***:Our data suggest that upregulated RhoA could be involved in the vascular dys-function of diabetic rats.

Infection of bone tissue,or osteomyelitis,has become a growing concern in modern healthcare due in no small part to a rise in antibiotic resistance among bacteria,notably Staphylococcus *** current standard of care involves aggressive,prolonged antibiotic therapy combined with surgical debridement of infected *** this treatment may be sufficient for resolving a portion of cases,recurrences of the infection and associated risks including toxicity with long-term antibiotic usage have been ***,there exists a need to produce safer,more efficacious options of treatment for *** order to test treatment regimens,animal models that closely mimic the clinical condition and allow for accurate evaluation of therapeutics are *** a model that replicates features of osteomyelitis in humans continues to be a challenge to scientists,as there are many variables involved,including choosing an appropriate species and method to establish *** review addresses the refinement of animal models of osteomyelitis to reflect the clinical disease and test prospective *** aim of this review is to explore studies regarding the use of animals for osteomyelitis therapeutics research and encourage further development of such animal models for the translation of results from the animal experiment to human medicine.

Enhancement Factors in Ozone Absorption Based on the Surface Renewal Model and its Application

Based on the Danckwerts surface renewal model, a simple explicit expression of the enhancement factor in ozone absorption with a first order ozone self-decomposition and parallel second order ozonation reactions has been derived. The results are compared with our previous work based on the film theory. The 2,4-dichlorophenol destruction rate by ozonation is predicted using the enhancement factor model in this paper.

An 11 year study was conducted to reevaluate the species of stipitate hydnums from the southern United States especially the Great Smoky Mountains and surrounding *** genera evaluated included Bankera herein reduced to synonym with Phellodon,Hydnellum,Sarcodon,and *** of many stipitate hydnum species from this region were abundant but nitrogen depositions during the last 20 years have impacted their *** it became critical to do a definitive study of these fungi using current taxonomic *** species within Hydnellum and Phellodon have a indeterminate type growth often dependant on environmental conditions making discrimination between closely related species difficult without supportive molecular sequence *** sequence data(ITS)was obtained a phylogenetic analyzes were conducted and the sequences were compared to those in GenBank with particular attention to European data.A total of 41 distinct taxa were determined and many of those were confirmed based on morphological data.A specific new combination from Bankera fuligineoalbum to Phellodon fuligineoalbus is made ***,Phellodon brunneoolivaceus is described as new based on morphological and sequence data.

Advances in solar cell technology require designing of new organic dye sensitizers for dye-sensitized solar cells with high power conversion efficiency to circumvent the disadvantages of silicon-based solar *** silico studies including quantitative structureproperty relationship analysis combined with quantum chemical analysis were employed to understand the primary electron transfer mechanism and photo-physical properties of 273 arylamine organic dyes from 11 diverse chemical families explicit to iodine *** direct quantitative structure-property relationship models enable identification of the essential electronic and structural attributes necessary for quantifying the molecular prerequisites of 11 classes of arylamine organic dyes,responsible for high power conversion efficiency of dye-sensitized solar ***,N,N′-dialkylaniline and indoline have been least explored classes under arylamine organic dyes for dye-sensitized solar ***,the identified properties from the corresponding quantitative structure-property relationship models of the mentioned classes were employed in designing of“lead dyes”.Followed by,a series of electrochemical and photo-physical parameters were computed for designed dyes to check the required variables for electron flow of dye-sensitized solar *** combined computational techniques yielded seven promising lead dyes each for all three chemical classes ***(130,183,and 46%)increment in predicted %power conversion efficiency was observed comparing with the existing dye with highest experimental %power conversion efficiency value for tetrahydroquinoline,N,N′-dialkylaniline and indoline,respectively maintaining required electrochemical parameters.

Introduction Countermovement vertical jump testing has become a staple in athlete assessment *** the popularity of jump testing has grown,a need and interest has also grown in identifying the factors that underpin high-level *** jump height alone as a variable in evaluating vertical jump performance has been questioned in athletic populations,other variables such as the reactive strength index modified(RSIm)allow for not only evaluating the outcome,but the strategy used in obtaining that *** Thus,the purpose of this investigation was to examine the differences in high and low vertical jump performances,as determined by the RSIm in female collegiate *** Thirty NCAA Division I female volleyball and basketball athletes performed countermovement vertical jump trials on a force *** sample was then broken into two groups as determined by median RSIm *** sample t-test were then used to compare *** High RSIm group displayed greater jump heights(P<0.05).Additionally,the high performing group displayed lower eccentric duration times(P<0.05).No differences between groups were seen in kinetic *** The high performing group displayed faster eccentric times which translated to lower values in time to take-off though not statistical *** higher RSIm values appear to be a result of both greater jump heights and reduced time to take ***,focus being placed on the speed of the movement during training would be of benefit in improving RSIm values.
