Members of the Torpedinidae(torpedoes)and Hypnidae(coffin ray)use electric organ discharges(EOD)to stun or kill their prey before *** investigated whether EOD could also negatively affect the helminth larvae infecting these preys through a surrogate model:we applied electric discharges to individuals of blue whiting,Micromesistius poutassou,that harbored live larvae of *** mortality throughout a 6-h period was significantly higher in the treatment group,suggesting that EODs could significantly hamper helminth *** then tested whether torpedinids and hypnids(“strong-EOD”families)harbored species-poor helminth(cestode)assemblages compared with“weak-EOD”Torpediniformes(Narcidae and Narkidae)and other *** on comparisons on estimated species diversity and mean species richness of tapeworms at host individual level we found that(i)Torpediniformes had the lowest tapeworm diversity of all Batoidea orders;(ii)Torpedo *** had the lowest mean cestode richness at host individual level,and this could not be related to other host factors influencing cestode diversity in chondrichthyans,that is body size,trophic level or dietary ***,a preliminary comparison between“strong-EOD”and“weak-EOD”Torpediniformes did not detect clear differences of cestode ***,evidence supporting an unambiguous contribution of EODs to depauperate cestode assemblages requires further research.

Fucoxanthin,a kind of exclusively algae-derived carotenoids,could reduce lipid content and regulate gut microbiota composition in obese mice,showing potential in preventing *** study aimed to illustrate fucoxanthin efficacy in modulating lipid metabolism in serum and liver of high-fat-induced hyperlipidemia mice,as well as investigate the underlying association with gut microbiota *** showed that fucoxanthin significantly reduced body weight gain and body white fat of the *** the serum,total triglycerides(TG),total cholesterol(TC)contents were significantly decreased and high-densitylipoprotein cholesterol levels was significantly ***,fucoxanthin remarkedly prevented lipid accumulation in the ***,metabolomics results showed that lipids and lipid-like molecules were significantly downregulated compared with the control,indicating the advance of hepatic lipid *** acids profile in the liver was also greatly changed by ***,fucoxanthin remodeled gut microbiota composition and promoted the relative abundance of Desulfovibrio,Blautia and Clostridia ***,correlation analysis revealed that these gut microbiota changes were closely related with hepatic metabolites/metabolism and serum ***,this study showed great potential of fucoxanthin in improving serum lipids profile,hepatic lipids and bile acids metabolism of hyperlipidemia mice,which was associated with gut microbiota alteration.

Peak oil theory is a theory concerning long-term oil reserves and the rate of oil production. Peak oil refers to the maximum rate of the production of oil or gas in any area under consideration. Its inevitability is analyzed from three aspects. The factors that influence peak oil and their mechanisms are discussed. These include the amount of resources, the discovery maturity of resources, the depletion rate of reserves and the demand for oil. The advance in the study of peak oil in China is divided into three stages. The main characteristics, main researchers, forecast results and research methods are described in each stage. The progress of the study of peak oil in China is summarized and the present problems are analyzed. Finally three development trends of peak oil study in China are presented.

Background:Alcohol and illicit drugs(AID)continue to be a major global health *** preventable,AID is linked to millions of deaths annually *** situation is particularly grave for young people,with AID being a major direct risk factor for disability-adjusted youth life-years lost and *** further contributes to assaults,road crashes,accidental poisoning,and suicide,leading to long-term issues and public health ***:This study aimed at disclosing current AID prevalence data for Argentinian,Bulgarian,Chilean and Romanian *** shed light on the predictors of AID in young people from those ***:The study used an online survey to gather data from people aged 18 to 25(n=1,297).The survey was underpinned by the theory of planned behaviour(TPB).Predictors were investigated separately for drinking alcohol and using illicit ***:Our data revealed that across the four target countries,49%to 90%of the participants drank alcohol,and 8%to 35%used illicit drugs in the past three *** 20%and 91%of them intended to drink,and between 8%and 31%intended to use illicit drugs in the following three *** TPB model predicted statistically significant(P<0.001)amounts of variance in drinking alcohol(between 61%and 72%)and using illicit drugs(between 20.3%and 74.4%).Intention was consistent in significantly predicting both *** around the predictive validity of self-efficacy,age and gender was mixed across the investigated ***:This research provided an update on the scarce AID epidemiological *** also supplied evidence about what theoretically-informed measures might be useful targets of interventions in the case of Argentina,Bulgaria,Chile and *** new knowledge of understanding substance abuse determinants and prevalence may help researchers and practitioners better meet young people's health prevention needs.

This work aims to study the dependence of the antibacterial activity on the crystal plane of Cu. The generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) on the thin film of Cu with grains oriented in the plane (100) was evaluated by chemiluminescence (CL). The authors proposed the generation mechanism of these three ROS on the outermost surface consisting of Cu2O thin film, CuO layer and bulk Cu.

COVID-19 has tremendously impacted the travel habits of urban *** study used the“node-line segment-network”hierarchy and Baidu migration big data to conduct a comparative analysis of the travel network patterns of urban people on China’s National Day holiday before and during the COVID-19 outbreak(i.e.,2019 and 2021).The results revealed four interesting patterns:(1)In 2021,there was an increase in the aggregation coefficient and access to the intra-provincial linkage network,indicating a higher degree of the travel agglomeration of residents under the pandemic.(2)In 2021,the“hub-and-spoke”pattern on the national scale,the“core-edge”pattern of the intra-provincial scale and the“rhomboidal”structure of the extra-provincial scale were more contracted,aggregated,and low-value.(3)The coverage of the urban advantageous association decreased while the total numbers of urban clusters and single provincial clusters increased,reaching 25 and 16,*** indicates that the pandemic intensified the effect of administrative boundaries as a barrier.(4)The primary determinants of movement during the pandemic were urban competition,policy control,administrative boundary barriers,and the travel intentions of residents.

Obscure gastrointestinal bleeding is an uncommonly encountered and difficult-to-treat clinical problem in gastroenterology,but advancements in endoscopic and radiologic imaging modalities allow for greater accuracyin diagnosing obscure gastrointestinal *** varices account for less than 5% of all variceal bleeding cases,and jejunal variceal bleeding due to extrahepatic portal hypertension is *** present a 47-year-old man suffering from obscure gastrointestinal *** tomography of the abdomen revealed multiple vascular tufts around the proximal jejunum but no evidence of cirrhosis,and a visible hypodense filling defect suggestive of thrombus was visible in the superior mesenteric *** revealed several serpiginous varices in the proximal *** data disclosed protein C deficiency(33.6%).The patient was successfully treated by therapeutic balloonassisted enteroscopy and long-term anticoagulant therapy,which is normally contraindicated in patients with gastrointestinal *** modalities for obscure gastrointestinal bleeding,such as capsule endoscopy,computed tomography enterography,magnetic resonance enterography,and enteroscopy,were also reviewed in this article.
