Quantitative real-time retrieval of concentration-lengths (Cl) through gaseous plumes is an important tool for environmental monitoring, enabling remote monitoring of emissions from industrial facilities and risk assessment in scenarios of toxic gas releases. The adoption of lWIR (long Wave InfraRed) hyperspectral imaging as a leading technique for remote gas plume detection paved the way for an introduction of a precise Cl estimation and two-dimensional (2D) mapping. A novel methodology for evaluating and characterizing the performance of a retrieval algorithm is presented. The algorithm utilizes state-of-the-art retrieved hyperspectral 2D mapping and is applied on a series of localized atmospheric tracer gas (SF6) releases in monitored environmental conditions. The retrieved CL distributions are compared to a numeric atmospheric T&D (Transport and Diffusion) model. Satisfactory agreement between retrieved and simulated CL prediction is manifested, and the uncertainty involved is quantified. Possible sources for the remained discrepancies between retrieved and simulated CL values are characterized, and methods to minimize them are discussed.

This paper suggests telework, and work/life community created by it, as potential design tools for the sustainability oflocal communities, and investigates their possibility and issues through a case study of loma linda Connected CommunityProgram (llCCP).A new work/life style enabled by information communication technology (ICT), often called telework, is expandingin the U.S. The environmental impact which this gives on community scale has been neglected. Yet, since teleworkcan give the area economic advancement without huge development, make mixed-use zoning plausible, and grantssense of community, it could bring physical, economic and social sustainability to local ***, as an example of emerging municipal ICT deployment programs, was examined on two levels;i.e. levelof urban policy and of urban design. It was revealed that llCCP, as an urban policy, has a good potential to createICT-served work/life community, thus to contribute to the smart growth of the city. It does so by promoting new businessesyet small/home ones only, and developing new neighborhoods yet ICT-served work/life communities only. Itslink to regional plans and to the building code which ensures the connectivity in entire city elevate its *** paper also pointed out that city’s urban design strategies are not yet supporting llCCP toward its goal. Itlacks coordination with teleworkers’ life style, and with spatial system for the entire city. A current design proposaloverlooks teleworkers’ driving habits and their specifi c needs to the types of retails/business-services, for example. Theresult implies that the use of telework in creating sustainable community may have started to be recognized on urbanpolicy level, but that urban/architectural design for it is still behind to be developed.

Transient ischemic attack （TIA） is a temporary event, which portends a higher risk of a disabling stroke following the TIA. However, the evaluation and management of TIA vary worldwide and is debated and controversial. With the development of brain imaging, particularly diffusion weighted imaging-magnetic resonance imaging （DWI-MRI）, the diagnosis of TIA changed from time-based definition to a tissue-based one. DWI-MRI be-came a mandatory tool in the TIA workup. The DWI-MRI provides not only the evidence to distinguish between TIA and acute ischemic stroke, fur-thermore it predicts TIA patients who are at higher risk of disabling stroke, which can be prevented by an immediate evaluation and treatment of TlA.

AIM: To provide an update on colorectal cancer(CRC) screening programmes in non-European Union(EU)-28 Council of Europe member states as of December 2015. METHODS: The mission of the Council of Europe is to protect and promote human rights in its 47 member countries. Its 19 non-EU member states are Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republika Srpska, Georgia, Iceland, liechtenstein, Republic of Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Norway, Russian Federation, San Marino, Serbia, Switzerland, FYR of Macedonia, Turkey, and Ukraine(EU-19). The main data source were GlOBOCAN, IARC, WHO, EUCAN, NORDCAN, ENCR, volume X of the CI5, the ministerial and Public Health Agency websites of the individual countries, Pub Med, EMBASE, registries of some websites and the ***, Scopus, ***, ***, Research gate, Google and data extracted from screening programme results. RESUlTS: Our results show that epidemiological data quality varies broadly between EU-28 and EU-19 countries. In terms of incidence, only 30% of EU-19 countries rank high in data quality as opposed to 86% of EU-28 states. The same applies to mortality data, since 52% of EU-19 countries as against all EU-28 countries are found in the high ranks. Assessment of the method of collection of incidence data showed that only 32% of EU-19 countries are found in the top three quality classes as against 89% of EU-28 countries. For the mortality data, 63% of EU-19 countries are found in the highest ranks as opposed to all EU-28 member states. Interestingly, comparison of neighbouring countries offering regional screening shows, for instance, that incidence and mortality rates are respectively 38.9 and 13.0 in Norway and 29.2 and10.9 in Sweden, whereas in Finland, where a national organised programme is available, they are respectively 23.5 and 9.3. While a large number of studies have described animal social networks, we have a poor understanding of how these networks vary with ecological and social conditions. For example, reproductive periods are an important life-history stage that may involve changes in dominance relationships among individuals, yet no study to date has compared social networks of do- minance interactions （i.e. dominance networks） across reproductive contexts. We first analyzed a long-term dataset on captive so- cial groups of the cooperatively breeding cichlid Neolamprologuspulcher, and found that eviction events were significantly more common around reproduction than expected by chance. Next, we compared the structure of dominance networks during early pa- rental care and non-reproductive periods, using one of the first applications of exponential random graph models in behavioral biology. Contrary to our predictions, we found that dominance networks showed few changes between early parental care and non-reproductive periods. We found no evidence that dominance interactions became more skewed towards larger individuals, became more frequent between similar-sized individuals, or became more biased towards a particular sex during parental care. However, we did find that there were relatively more dominance interactions between opposite-sex dyads in the early parental care period, which may be a by-product of increased sexual interactions during this time. This is the first study in behavioral ecology to compare social networks using exponential random graph modeling, and demonstrates a powerful analytical framework for future studies in the field [Current Zoology 61 （1）： 45-54, 2015].

AIM： To assess the late outcome of teen-agers with a previous history of recurrent abdominal pain （RAP） or irritable bowel syndrome （IBS）. METHODS： A group of 67 children with RAP referred to the department from January 1986 to December 1995 was followed up between 5 and 13 years after the initial diagnosis by means of a structured telephone interview. We hypothesized that those patients with persistent adult IBS-like symptoms would be significantly more likely to report a family history oflBS in comparison with adults with no persistent abdominal complaint. RESUlTS： Out of the 52 trackable subjects, 15 were found to present IBS-like symptoms at follow-up （29%） whereas the majority （37 subjects） did not. Subjects with IBS-like symptoms were almost three times more likely to present at least one sibling with similar symptoms compared to subjects not complaining （40.0% vs 16.0%）, respectively （P 〈 0.05 at Student t test）. Subjects with IBS-like symptoms also reported a higher prevalence of extra-intestinal symptoms, such as back pain, fibromyalgia, headache, fatigue and sleep disturbances. CONClUSION： The study confirms previous observations indicating that pediatric RAP can predict later development of IBS. The latter appears to be greatly influenced by intrafamilial aggregation of symptoms, possibly through the learning of a specific illness behavior.

Decorating multiwalled carbon nanotubes with zinc oxide nano-crystallines through hydrothermal growth process

Multiwalled-carbon nanotubes coated with nano-crystalline zinc oxide （ZnO） was prepared by in situ growth of nano zinc oxide on the surfaces of carbon nanotubes through hydrothermal method. X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy analysis techniques were used to characterize the samples. It was observed that a layer of nano-crystalline ZnO with the wurtzite hexagonal crystal structure was uniformly coated on the nanotube surfaces with good adhesion, which resulted in the formation of a novel ZnO-nanotuhe nano composite. In this work, the carbon nanotubes decorated by metal oxide nanoparticles were synthesized by a simple chemical-solution route which is suitable for the large-scale production with low cost.
