As a white pigment, titanium oxide is used for cosmetic application. This oxide is well known to have the photo catalytic activity. Therefore, a certain degree of sebum on the skin is decomposed by the ultraviolet radiation in sunlight. In this work, titanium phosphates were prepared with titanium chloride and sodium triphosphate in hydrothermal process as a novel white pigment. Their chemical composition, powder properties, photo catalytic activity, color phase, and smoothness were studied. The obtained phosphates had little photo catalytic activity. The particle size of phosphate pigments consisted a normal distribution at 2 μm by the hydrothermal treatment for 4 and 8 hours. The slipping resistance of samples became small by the hydrothermal treatment.

After field cooling(FC)alternating current poling(ACP),we investigated the dielectric and piezoelectric properties of[001]_(pc)-oriented 0.24Pb(In_(1/2)Nb_(1/2))O_(3)(PIN)-0.46Pb(Mg_(1/3)Nb_(2/3))O_(3)(PMN)-0.30PbTiO3(PT)(PIMN-0.30PT)single crystals(SCs),which were manufactured by continuous-feeding Bridgman(CF BM)within morphotropic phase boundary(MPB)*** ACP with 4 kVrms/cm from 100 to 70℃,the PIMN-0.30PT SC attained high dielectric permittivity of 8330,piezoelectric coefficient(d_(33))of 2750 pC/N,bar mode electromechanical coupling factorκ_(33)of 0.96 with higher phase change temperature(T_(pc))of 103℃,and high Curie temperature(7c)of 180℃.These values are the highest ever reported as PIMN-xPT SC system with Tpc>100℃.The enhancement of these properties is attributed to the induced low symmetry multi-phase supported by phase *** work indicates that FC ACP is a smart and promising method to enhance piezoelectric properties of relaxor-PT ferroelectric SCs including PIMN-xPT,and provides a route to a wide range of piezoelectric device applications.

AIM: To clarify the relationship between age, menopause, and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in women. METHODS: We conducted a follow-up study on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease by using abdominal ultrasonography, and investigated the relationship of age and menopause with the development of NAFLD in women. We followed 1829 women and 2572 men (response rate, 86%) selected in 2001 to represent the non-institutionalized adult population of Gifu, Japan. Data collected included self-reported medical history, lifestyle factors, and menopausal status. The postmenopausal state was defined as beginning 1 year after the cessation of menses. We diagnosed NAFLD with the aid of abdominal ultrasonography by using diagnostic criteria describedRESULTS: The prevalence of NAFLD in women increases with age, but does not alter with age in men. Furthermore, the prevalence of NAFLD in premenopausal women (6%) was lower than that in men (24%) and in postmenopausal women (15%). The associations of the postmenopausal state and hormone replacement therapy with NAFLD were statistically significant in a univariate logistic regression model. At the follow-up examination, 67 women (5%) were newly diagnosed with NAFLD. The incidence of NAFLD was 3.5% (28/802) in premenopausal women, 7.5% (4/53) in menopausal women, 6.1% (24/392) in postmenopausal women, and 5.3% (11/206) in women receiving hormone replacement therapy. The weight gain in premenopausal women was equal to that in postmenopausal women. Metabolic syndrome and weight gain were independent risk factors for NAFLD in pre-and postmenopausal women, but age was an independent risk factor in premenopausal women only. CONCLUSION: Aging is a risk factor for NAFLD in premenopausal women, independent of weight gain or influence of metabolic syndrome.

Diabetic nephropathy is characterized by the proliferation of glomerular mesangium cells and the accumulation of extra-cellular matrix. In the previous study, we demonstrated that astaxanmin reduced glomerular oxidative stress as well as inhibited the increase of urinary albumin in diabetic db/db mice. High-density DNA microarrays that examine expression of many genes simultaneously not only can provide new information about gene function, but also generate insights into transcriptional processes, and identify new mechanism of pathogenesis. The aim of the present study is to determine the gene expression patterns in glomerular cells of astaxanthin-treated mice by using a microarray technique.

Viscoelastic properties of wood from Chinese-fir and poplar plantations

Elastic and strength properties （proportional-limit stress （O＇prop）, Young＇s modulus （E）, breaking stress （O＇max） in static bending parallel to grain in a longitudinal direction）, as well as stress relaxation in air-dried condition and water-saturated conditions at seven different constant temperatures and increasing and decreasing temperatures were investigated for wood from Chinese-fir and poplar plantations. The results show that hygrothermal conditions considerably affect these mechanical properties. The higher the moisture content （MC） or temperature, the lower the strength of wood. Further investigation of the effects of constant temperature on stress relaxation indicates that high temperature specimens have low relaxation moduli and high fluidity. In the case of increasing temperature the range of the modulus of relaxation is larger than in the case of a reduction in temperature, while the residual moduli do not show large differences. This is because the modulus at high temperatures decreases more than that at low temperatures. The fluidity of specimens in a state of water desorption increases slowly at the beginning, increases quickly until the MC reaches an equilibrium moisture content （EMC） and then becomes stable, which is quite different from that in a water-saturated state. Fluidity in a desorption state is much higher than in a water-saturated state. This is probably due to the fact that the former is in an unstable state which can be interpreted as a state with internal strain and has therefore a greater potential to release strain.

Suspected Anaphylactic Shock Associated with Rocuronium in an Infant: A Case Report

We report a case of severe anaphylactic shock in a 5-month-old infant who was scheduled to undergo an external inguinal hernia repair under general anesthesia. Rocuronium used for anesthesia induction was the most likely cause of anaphylaxis. High levels of serum tryptase and histamine detected in the blood sample collected during the anaphylactic reaction confirmed the diagnosis of anaphylactic shock. The patient’s clinical status improved within 90 min of intervention by the intravenous injection of vasopressors and a steroid. Surgery was canceled, and the patient stayed in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) under artificial ventilation for 5 h before safe extubation. The patient achieved full recovery the next day, without any sequelae. The rescheduled surgery was successfully completed 5 months later under general anesthesia without the use of neuromuscular blocking agents.

Comparing Basic Social Competencies among Nursing Students before and during the Pandemic

Background: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the practical curriculum in over 80% of Japanese nursing universities is shorted. The study aimed to clarify the change in basic social competencies among nursing students by comparing their scores before and during the pandemic. Method: Retrospective data from 235 responses from 3rd-grade nursing students were analyzed. The data were separated into two groups—158 respondents before-pandemic and 77 respondents during-pandemic. Respondents were asked to complete a measurement scale two months after the beginning of the 3rd-grade module. Results: Our results showed the during-pandemic group’s averages were higher than the before-pandemic group’s. During the pandemic, nursing students using home-based online learning could not self-evaluate accurately because they could not practice in the field. Conclusion: Nursing students who were studying during the during-pandemic self-assessed themselves higher than those who were studying during the before-pandemic because they could not compare with the other students, and the results showed that misunderstandings may arise.

Aims:No solid evidence-based opinion was raised regarding predictors of the degree of ascites reduction with *** retrospective cohort study aimed to examine whether serum copeptin concentration is a useful predictor of ***:The study population consisted of 80 patients with liver cirrhosis treated with tolvaptan for hepatic ascites effusions at Nara Medical university Hospital from May 2014 to December ***-three patients who lost>1.5 kg of body weight in the first week after starting tolvaptan were classified as good responders and the remaining 37 as poor *** laboratory parameters were measured immediately before the start of tolvaptan therapy to examine factors associated with predicting its ***:In the univariate analysis,no significant differences with respect to age(67.6 vs.69.8 years,p>0.05),sex,body mass index(24.8 vs.23.7 kg/m^(2),p>0.05),Child-Pugh score(9.4 vs.9.7,p>0.05),and Model for End-stage Liver Disease score(11 vs.12,p>0.05)were found between the two ***,aspartate transferase and alanine transaminase(ALT)levels were significantly lower in the good response group(52.9±56.3 vs.68.8±50.7 U/L,p<0.05;26.2±30.6 vs.40.5±33.5 U/L,p<0.01),whereas serum copeptin and serum sodium concentrations were significantly higher(57.1±15.0 vs.45.8±16.0 pg/mL,p<0.01;136.3±3.4 vs.133.8±5.8 mEq/L,p<0.05).In the multivariate analysis,serum copeptin concentration and ALT were statistically significant factors(p<0.01,p<0.05).Regression analysis of the association between the tolvaptan efficacy for refractory ascites and pretreatment serum copeptin concentration showed that a copeptin concentration cutoff of 45.9 pg/mL could predict treatment efficacy with a sensitivity,specificity,and area under the curve of 76.7%,59.5%,and 0.71%,***:Serum copeptin concentration may be a predictor of tolvaptan efficacy for refractory ascites effusion in Japanese patients with liver cirrhosis.

Changes in Nurses after Online Workshops Using the Pediatric Nursing Care Model

This study aimed to clarify the changes in nurses’ cognition about the rate and likelihood of implementation of daily ethical nursing items used in pediatric care before and after attending online workshops using the Pediatric Nursing Care Model (PNCM). A 1.5-hour online workshop was held twice over two weeks. A total of nine nurses participated in the program. These online workshops using PNCM helped achieve the original goals and the results revealed a positive outcome of the workshops. We should devise an educational program to arouse participants’ interest and comprehension to make the most of online competency.
