Parathyroid Surgery Outcome at king salman Armed Forces hospital

Introduction: The aim of this study is to review the surgical outcome of parathyroidectomy at one institution over nine years in form of methods of diagnosis, type of surgery, postoperative complications and histopathology findings. Methods: This is a retrospective study from a single institution (king salman North West Armed Forced hospital (KSAFH), Tabuk, Saudi Arabia). All cases underwent parathyroidectomy from 1/1/2010 until 31/12/2018 were retrieved from the archives of the department of surgery. Data were extracted from the patients’ charts. They included demographical data, presence of comorbidities, laboratory and radiological investigations, type of surgery, postoperative complications and histopathology findings. Inclusion criteria include patients older than 13 years old. Exclusion criteria include patients younger than 13 years old, hyperparathyroidism cured with medication, patients unwilling to give informed consent and patients with serious underlying medical conditions that restrict diagnostic testing or therapy such as congestive cardiac failure. Results: A total of 30 patients underwent parathyroidectomy at KSAFH. 20 out of 30 patients were female (66.7%). The mean age was 35 - 45 years old. Diabetes mellitus was found in 5 patients (16.7%), while hypertension was seen in 10 patients (33.3%). 6 patients (20%) had end stage renal disease (ESRD). The data showed 24 patients with primary hyperparathyroidism (80%), 5 patients with secondary hyperparathyroisim (16.7%) and one patient with tertiary hyperparathyroidism (3.3%). Our study demonstrated that 23 patients underwent partial parathyroidectomy (76.6%), while 7 patients underwent total parathyroidectomy (23.3%). According to the method used for diagnosis of hyperparathyroidism, blood tests were used in 27 patients (90%), Sestamibi parathyroid scan in 26 patients (86.6%), ultrasound scanning in 28 patients (93.3%) and bone scan in 9 patients (30%). Several diseases originate from bile duct *** studies on these diseases,certain etiologies of some of them still cannot be *** most common disease of the bile duct in newborns is biliary atresia,whose prognosis varies according to the age of surgical *** diseases such as Alagille syndrome,inspissated bile duct syndrome,and choledochal cysts are also time-sensitive because they can cause severe liver damage due to *** majority of these diseases present with cholestatic jaundice in the newborn or infant period,which is quite difficult to differentiate regarding clinical acumen and initial *** cholangiography is potentially necessary to make an accurate diagnosis,and further treatment will be performed synchronously or planned as findings *** article provides a concise review of bile duct diseases,with interesting cases.

AIM:To determine whether the levator palpebrae superioris(LPS)/superior rectus(SR)muscle complex,can influence the position of the upper lid and fornix in acquired anophthalmic ***:This comparative non-randomized and non-interventional study included retrospective data of 21 patients with unilateral acquired anophthalmic sockets repaired with spheric ***-resolution computed tomography(CT)measurements of the LPM/SR muscle complex and clinical topographic position of the upper lid,superior and inferior fornix depth in primary gaze position were *** data were presented as frequency and percentage proportions and quantitative variables comparing the socket measurements with the normal contralateral orbit was statistically analyzed using non-parametric tests considering P0.05,all comparisons).The superior fornix depth was similar in the anophthalmic socket and the contralateral normal orbit(P=0.192)as well the inferior fornix depth(P=0.351).CONCLUSION:Acquired anophthalmic sockets repaired with spheric implants have shorter LPS,thicker SR,and more lagophthalmos than normal *** relationship of the LPS and SR with other orbital structures,associated with passive or active forces acting in the final position of the lids and external ocular prosthesis should be further investigated.

The aberrant hepatic duct is classified by Huang et al.[1]into type A(right intrahepatic duct variant)and type B(left intrahepatic duct variant).Type A and B are further classified into 5(A1-5)and 6(B1-6)subtypes,*** variation of cystic duct involves only in type *** A1 or classic arrangement refers to the formation of the common hepatic duct(CHD)by the left hepatic duct(LHD)and the right hepatic duct(RHD).The RHD has two tributaries composed of the right anterior hepatic duct(RAHD)and the right posterior hepatic duct(RPHD).Then,the common bile duct(CBD)is formed when the cystic duct joins with the CHD(Fig.1).Type A2 refers to the RAHD and RPHD joining with LHD at hepatic hilum,and the absence of the *** A3 refers to the RAHD or RPHD directly draining to the *** A4 refers to the RAHD or RPHD directly draining to the *** A5 refers to the RAHD,RPHD or RHD directly draining to the cystic duct(or aberrant bile duct communicating with the cystic duct,ACC)(Fig.1)[1].

The Impact of Simulation Education on Self-Efficacy in Pre-Registration Nursing Students

This literature review primarily aims to explore and synthesise the previous studies in simulation education research conducted over the past five years related to the effects of simulation training on the self-efficacy of undergraduate pre-registration nursing students. The second aim of this study is to explore additional outcome variables that were examined in the previous studies. Five electronic databases were searched systematically. These databases were MEDLINE, CINAHL Plus, Scopus, Embase and PsycINFO. The PICO model was employed to identify the search terms, with a thesaurus being used to provide synonyms. Reference lists of relevant articles were examined and hand searches of journals were also undertaken. The quality of each study was assessed using the Simulation Research Rubric (SRR). A total of 11 studies were included. All studies explored the impact of simulation education on undergraduate pre-registration nursing. Six studies explored nursing students’ competence and performance and two papers examined their critical thinking. Problem solving, learning motivation, communication skills and knowledge acquisition were examined once. The majority of studies indicated that simulation training has a positive impact on pre-registration nursing students’ self-efficacy and other outcome variables. Furthermore, the study results indicate that simulation training is more dependable than traditional training, and students were extremely satisfied with the simulation training. However, most of the studies included in this review had several gaps, including study design, sample size and dissimilarities between the scales used. Further research with large samples, reliable and valid instruments, and outcomes measures (such as critical thinking and transferability of skills) is required to provide better insight into the effectiveness of simulation in undergraduate nursing education. .

Evaluation of the nutritional value of Artemia nauplii for European seabass(Dicentrarchus labrax L.)larvae

Adapted European seabass(Dicentrarchus labrax L.)larvae at 25 days post-hatching(dph)with a primary weight and length of 23 mg and 9.92 mm,start the weaning up to 46 dph using the weaning micro-diet(54%crude protein from fish meal,powder milk,and poultry egg)concurrently with Artemia enriched with fortification emulsions(0.6 g/L)of DHA selco®as a control group(DHAS)or Fish oil+20%Vitamin C(FOVC),or Fish oil+20%Vitamin E(FOVE),or Fish oil+10%Vit.C+10%Vit.E(FOCE),or Fish oil only(FO).At 46 dph,groups of larvae fed enriched Artemia with DHAS and FOVE exhibited the highest final body weight,weight gain,average daily gain,specific growth rate,feed intake,protein efficiency ratio,and survival%as well as the lowest feed conversion ***,larvae in FOVC displayed the lowest final body weight,total length,weight gain,average daily gain,specific growth rate,feed intake,protein efficiency ratio,and survival%as well as the highest feed conversion *** histological assessment exhibited no pathological alteration as well as an improvement in the structure with DHAS,FOVE,FOVC,and FOCE co-additives compared to *** peroxidase enzyme(GPx)recorded the highest rates(P<0.05)in groups fed Artemia supplemented with DHAS and FOVE followed by FOCE and *** the lowest record for GPx activity was noted in the FO *** conclusion,Using augmented Artemia nauplii with fish oil+vitamin E in single or in companion with vitamin C as cheap antioxidants support *** larval growth,survival,and antioxidant efficacy during the critical weaning period.

The generation of photovoltaic(PV)solar energy is increasing continuously because it is renewable,unlimited,and clean *** the past,generation systems depended on non-renewable sources such as oil,coal,and ***,this paper assesses the performance of a 51 kW PV solar power plant connected to a low-voltage grid to feed an administrative building in the 6th of October City,*** performance analysis of the considered grid-connected PV system is carried out using power system simulator for Engineering(PSS/E)*** the PSS/E program,monitors and uses the power analyzer that displays the parameters and measures some parameters such as current,voltage,total power,power factor,frequency,and current and voltage harmonics,the used inverter from the type of grid inverter for the considered *** results conclude that when the maximum solar radiation is reached,the maximum current can be obtained from the solar panels,thus obtaining the maximum power and power *** total voltage harmonic distortion,a current harmonic distortion within permissible limits using active harmonic distortion because this type is fast in processing up to 300 *** connection between solar stations and the national grid makes the system more efficient.
