BACKGROUND Hepatitis C virus(HCV)genotype 6(HCV-6)infection is prevalent predominantly in Southeast Asia,and the data on the virologic response of HCV-6 to direct-acting antivirals(DAAs)are sparse in people living with human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)(PLWH).AIM To assess the virologic response of HCV-6 to DAAs in *** From September 2016 to July 2019,PLWH coinfected with HCV-6 initiating DAAs were *** investigations were performed at baseline,the end of treatment,and 12 wk *** Of the 349 PLWH included(mean age 48.9 years,82.5%men),80.5%comprised people who inject drugs,18.1%men who have sex with men,and 1.4%*** hepatitis B virus infection was present in 12.3%of the included PLWH,liver cirrhosis 10.9%,hepatocellular carcinoma 0.9%,and previous HCV treatment experience 10.9%.The mean baseline plasma HCV RNA was 6.2 log10 IU/m *** with glecaprevir/pibrentasvir was initiated in 51.9%,sofosbuvir/ledipasvir 41.5%,sofosbuvir/velpatasvir 6.3%,and sofosbuvir/daclatasvir 0.3%.At DAA initiation,antiretroviral therapy containing tenofovir alafenamide was given in 26.4%,tenofovir disoproxil fumarate 34.4%,non-tenofovir alafenamide/tenofovir disoproxil fumarate 39.3%,non-nucleoside reverse-transcriptase inhibitors 30.4%,protease inhibitors 4.0%,and integrase strand transfer inhibitors 66.8%;94.8%of the included patients had CD4 counts≥200 cells/mm3 and 96.0%had plasma HIV RNA<50 copies/m ***,96.8%achieved undetectable plasma HCV RNA(<30 IU/m L)at end of treatment;and 92.3%achieved sustained virologic response 12 wk off-therapy in the intention-to-treat analysis(93.5%in patients receiving sofosbuvir-based DAAs and 91.2%in those receiving glecaprevir/pibrentasvir).CONCLUSION Similar to the observation made in HIV-negative patients,sustained virologic response 12 wk offtherapy with DAAs is high in PLWH coinfected with HCV-6.

Metastases are the main cause of death among patients with bladder cancer, which is the second most common malignancy of the genitourinary tract and is highly prevalent in the southwestern region of Taiwan. Angiogenesis plays a critical role in tumor growth and metastasis processes and has relevance in disease recurrence, pelvic lymph node metastasis and poor prognosis. Cancer cells can produce several angiogenesis-stimulating factors involved in vascular growth, including vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF), and inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin (IL)-8. Common chemotherapeutic drugs for intravesical instillations usually cause major side effects, including urinary frequency, urinary urgency, cystitis, and hematuria. In order to identify a less cytotoxic therapeutic agent that can inhibit tumor cell proliferation, we examined the traditional Chinese herbal medicine Cortex Moutan—reported to have antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, antithrombotic, and antitumor properties—for its effects on bladder cancer cell proliferation and expression of angiogenic factors. Our results revealed that Cortex Moutan exhibited high selectivity in inhibiting the growth of bladder cancer cells and also reduced the expression of angiogenesis-stimulating factors in those cells. Thus, we suggest that Cortex Moutan might be used as a cancer therapy drug for bladder’s intravesical chemotherapy in the future.

AIM: To investigate the influence of different quasispecies of hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype 1b core protein on growth of Chang liver cells. METHODS: Three eukaryotic expression plasmids (pEGFP-N1/core) that contained different quasispecies truncated core proteins of HCV genotype 1b were constructed. These were derived from tumor (T) and non- tumor (NT) tissues of a patient infected with HCV and C191 (HCV-J6). The core protein expression plasmids were transiently transfected into Chang liver cells. At different times, the cell cycle and apoptosis was assayed by flow cytometry, and cell proliferation was assayed by methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium (MTT) assay. RESULTS: The proportion of S-phase Chang liver cells transfected with pEGFP-N1/core was significantly lower than that of cells transfected with blank plasmid at three different times after transfection (all P NT > C191), and apoptosis was increased in cells transfected with pEGFP-N1/core as the transfection time increased (72 h > 48 h > 24 h). CONCLUSION: These results suggest that HCV genotype 1b core protein induces apoptosis, and inhibits cell- cycle progression and proliferation of Chang liver cells. Different quasispecies core proteins of HCV genotype 1b might have some differences in the pathogenesis of HCV persistent infection and hepatocellular carcinoma.

The aim of the study was to assess the effect of praziquantel (PZQ) treatment on hematuria, proteinuria and the status of eGFR following treatment in school children infected with S. mansoni. A cohort study among 6 - 13 years old children was conducted in the Lake Zone region of Tanzania to assess S. mansoni infection using a circulating cathodic antigen (CCA), Kato Kartz while urine dipstick to screen for urine protein levels and red blood cells. A blood sample was taken for every child to determine creatinine levels and later a status of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). The prevalence of S. mansoni infection was 64%, 46%, and 24% at baseline, 6 months, and 1 year respectively using CCA test. There was a 62.5% reduction in S. mansoni infection from baseline (p S. mansoni using CCA test, reductions in proteinuria, and hematuria in school children in Tanzania. There was complete remission in eGFR 2 from 3.9% to 0% at 6 months. This suggests that praziquantel is effective, but there is still a need for integrated strategies to minimize reinfections.

Integration for coexistence？ Implementation of intercultural health care policy in Ghana from the perspective of service users and providers

OBJECTIVE： In spite of the World Health Organization＇s recommendations over the past decades, Ghana features pluralistic rather than truly integrated medical system. Policies about the integration of complementary medicine into the national health care delivery system need to account for individuallevel involvement and cultural acceptability of care rendered by health care providers. Studies in Ghana, however, have glossed over the standpoint of the persons of the illness episode about the intercultural health care policy framework. This paper explores the health care users, and providers＇ experiences and attitudes towards the implementation of intercultural health care policy in Ghana. METHODS： In-depth interviews, augmented with informal conversations, were conducted with 16 health service users, 7 traditional healers and 6 health professionals in the Sekyere South District and Kumasi Metropolis in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Data were thematically analysed and presented based on the a posteriori inductive reduction approach. RESULTS： Findings reveal a widespread positive attitude to, and support for integrative medical care in Ghana. However, inter-provider communication in a form of cross-referrals and collaborative mechanisms between healers and health professionals seldom occurs and remains unofficially sanctioned. Traditional healers and health care professionals are skeptical about intercultural health care policy mainly due to inadequate political commitment for provider education. The medical practitioners have limited opportunity to undergo training for integrative medical practice. We also find a serious mistrust between the practitioners due to the ＂diversity of healing approaches and techniques.＂ Weak institutional support, lack of training to meet standards of practice, poor registration and regulatory measures as well as negative perception of the integrative medical policy inhibit its implementation in Ghana. Tanshinone IIA Could Inhibit Pancreatic Cancer BxPC-3 Cells through Increasing PERK, ATF6, Caspase-12 and CHOP Expression to Induce Apoptosis

Tanshinone IIA (Tan-IIA) is extracted from Dan-Shen. Tan-IIA could inhibit human pancreatic cancer BxPC-3 cells through decreasing TCTP, Mcl-1 and Bcl-xl expression in vitro. Our previous study showed that Tan-IIA can inhibit hepatocellular carcinoma hep-J5 cells and human breast cancer BT-20 cells through inducing endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress. In the present study, we investigated the ER stress related protein expressions in human pancreatic cancer BxPC3 cells were treated with Tan-IIA. The ER stress related protein expressions in human pancreatic cancer BxPC-3 cells were evaluated by western blotting. The results showed that Tan-IIA can increase the protein expressions of PERK, ATF6, Caspase-12 and CHOP, but decrease Bip, PDI, Calnexin, Calreticulin and Bcl-2 expression. These findings indicated that Tan-IIA can inhibit human pancreatic cancer BxPC-3 cells by inducing ER stress to induce apoptosis.

Background Post-operation pain is a very subjective phenomenon. The aim of this study was to find out the effects of acupuncture or electro-acupuncture on post-cesarean pain. Methods Sixty women, who had had spinal anesthesia during cesarean section at the Department of Obstetrics of China medical university Hospital, were randomly assigned to the control group, the acupuncture group, and the electro-acupuncture group. After the operation, we applied subjects with acupuncture or electro-acupuncture on the bilateral acupuncture point, San Yin Jiao （Sp6）, and the patient controlled analgesia （PCA）. The first time of requesting morphine, the frequency of PCA demands in 24 hours, and the doses of PCA used were recorded double blindly. In addition, monitoring the subjects＇ vital signs, the opioid-related side effects, and the pain scores was done. Results The results showed that the acupuncture group and the electro-acupuncture group could delay the time of requesting morphine up to 10-11 minutes when compared with the control group. The total dose of PCA used within the first 24 hours was 30%-35% less in the acupuncture group and the electro-acupuncture group when compared with the control group, which was indicated in statistical significance. However, there was no significant difference between the acupuncture group and the electro-acupuncture group. The electro-acupuncture group＇s and the acupuncture group＇s pain scores were lower than the control group＇s within the first 2 hours. Both were statistically significant. However, two hours later, there were no significant differences of the visual analogue scale （VAS） scores between either of the treatment groups and the control group. Finally, the incidence of opioid-related side effects, such as dizziness, was less in the acupuncture group and electro-acupuncture group than in the control group. Academic writing is an important skill of those medical professionals who wish to engage in education and *** addition,many medical professionals whose first language is not English need to learn academic writing in English because it is the dominant language in academic *** most universities in Taiwan,however,academic writing is not included in the undergraduate curriculum,and therefore most of the medical professionals began to learn academic writing after starting their *** professionals usually have busy schedules and need to do shift work,but learning to write in a second language is time consuming and needs a lot of *** learners can benefit from proof reading of the instructor,they can benefit even more if the instructor can guide them through the proof reading process and explain the reasons for *** study applied one of the most popular computer communication media,which has a desktop sharing function,to the teaching of academic writing and asked students report their *** comparison with face-to-face one-on-one teaching,students reported advantages including flexibilities in schedule and place,saving of traffic time,potential to broadcast to other students,no need for a classroom or office,and the option of making a recording for replaying and sharing with other *** the other hand,students reported limitations including the needs of equipment and access to network,interruptions of the connection,and bad quality of communication ***,medical professionals prefer this learning mode than face-to-face one-on-one learning.

Right anterior cingulate gyrus in encephalic region associated with integrating and processing Chinese words information in working memory: A functional magnetic resonance imaging study

BACKGROUND ： Many experimental results have been found in previous studies on whether laterality of brain cingulate gyrus exists in processing Chinese words information. OBJECTIVE ： To observe the function of right anterior cingulate gyrus and activation showed by MRI in processing Chinese words in a visual working memory judgment tasks, and evaluate the laterality of activated brain regions. DESIGN ： Observation experiment SETTING ： The medical Psychological Research Center, Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South university.PARTICIPANTS： Thirteen healthy volunteers （7 males and 6 females）, aged （29±7）years ranging from 23 to 36 years old, participated in this fMRI study dunng August 2003 to Febuary 2004. They gave informed consent in accordance with guidelines set by Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South university. All subjects were native Chinese speakers and strongly right handed. METHODS ： In this study, Chinese numeral words were used as test materials and test mode of Sternberg was used in cognitive task, it was aimed to investigate the encephalic region involved in the storage and processing of Chinese numerical information. ①The head of subject was fixed with dense foam pad. Visual working task was performed according to the requests. Verbal working task was that the subject saw target items for four numerals written in Chinese, presenting for 1.5 s and then, after a short time by blank for 3.0 s. The subject saw one numeral presenting for 1.5 s and had to press one button if it was one of the shown numbers and another button if it did not belong to the presented numbers. There were two visual working memory stimuli in each stimulation block. The experiment was conducted in a single run, which consisted of seven blocks of visual working memory tasks. Different Chinese numerals were displayed in each block to avoid any practice effect （The response rate of the whole working memory task was 50%）. ②The activation of brain was scanned with a 1.5T
