The polymorphic isomer [Cu(dafone)2(H2O)2](Hphth)2 1 (dafone = 4,5- diazafluoren-9-one, phth = 1,2-benzenedicarboxyl) has been synthesized and the structure was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Crystal data: C38H26CuN4O12, monoclinic, space group P21/a with a = 11.5863(18), b = 25.512(4), c = 11.878(2) ?, β = 111.696(3)o, V = 3262.1(9) ?3, Mr = 794.17, Z = 4, Dc = 1.617 g/cm3, F(000) = 1628, μ = 0.748 mm-1, R = 0.0603 and wR = 0.1132 for 6878 observed reflections with I > 2σ(I). 1 consists of one [Cu(dafone)2(H2O)2]2+ cation and two monoprotonated 1,2-benzenedicarboxyl (Hphth) anions and forms a two-dimensional hydrogen bond network via intermolecular hydrogen bond interactions between the coordinated water molecules and carboxylato-oxygen atoms from monoprotonated benzenedicarboxyl anions.

Effect of Inhibitors on Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization of MMA

Effect of a series of inhibitors as additives on atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of methyl methacrylate (MMA) with FeCl 2 /PPh 3 as catalyst system was studied, including 2,4,6‐trinitrophenol (TNP), 4‐methoxyphenol (4‐MP), hydroquinone (HQ) and nitrobenzene (NB). It was found that TNP was the only efficient additive for ATRP among these inhibitors. In the presence of small amounts of TNP, the polymerization proceeded rapidly after induction period to yield the polymers with controlled molecular weights and narrow molecular weight distributions (MWD). The initiating efficiency of the modified catalyst system with TNP was increased. The mechanism was proposed and confirmed by the end group analysis of the polymer.

Proline Catalyzed Asymmetric Aldol Reaction between Methyl Ketones and 1-Aryl-2,2,2-trifluoroethanones

Direct asymmetric aldol addition of methyl ketones to 2,2,2‐trifluoro‐1‐phenylethanone and its ring‐substituted derivatives was achieved using L ‐proline as a chiral promoter. Various optically active β‐trifluoromethyl‐β‐hydroxy ketones were obtained in almost quantitative yields with moderate enantioselectivities up to 64 % ee.

The copper(II) complex [Cu(teta)N(CN)2](ClO4)H2O (teta = 5,7,7,12,14,14- hexamethyl-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane) has been synthesized and the crystal structure was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Crystal data: C18H38ClCuN7O5, monoclinic, space group P21/n, a = 8.796(3), b = 11.885(4), c = 23.054(9) , b = 97.540(4)o, V = 2389.3(15) 3, Mr = 531.54, Z = 4, Dc = 1.478 g/cm3, F(000) = 1124, ?= 1.070 mm-1, the final R = 0.0566 and wR = 0.1162 for 4749 observed reflections (I > 2s(I)). The center copper ion is coordinated by five nitrogen atoms in a square pyramidal geometry, with four from the macrocyclic ligand teta and the other one from a nitrile nitrogen atom of dicyanamide which is coordinated to the metal atoms as uni-dentate manner via nitrile nitrogen atom.

The title compound 2 (C15H22NO4PS, Mr = 343.38) was prepared by the reaction of α-benzoylthioformmorpholine 1 with trimethyl phosphite. The crystal is of monoclinic, space group P21/c with a = 14.906(2), b = 8.4711(12), c = 13.343(2) ?, β = 96.761(4)o, Z = 4, V = 1673.1(5) ?3, Dc = 1.363 g/cm3, μ(MoKα) = 3.06 cm-1, F(000) = 728, the final R = 0.0590 and wR = 0.1740 for 3036 observed reflections (I > 2σ(I)). X-ray analysis revealed that the interatomic distance of C(5)–C(6) is 1.353(4) ?, indicating it is a normal C=C double bond. The P(1) atom takes a distorted tetrahedral geometry, and the morpholine ring adopts a chair conformation. The morpholino group is located at the 1-position of vinylphosphonate, and the phenyl and thiomethyl groups at the 2-position.

Recycling Chiral Organocatalyst （4S）-Phenoxy-（S）-proline for Direct Asymmetric Aldol Reaction in Ionic Liquid （bmim）PF6

Room temperature ionic liquid (bmim)PF 6 was evaluated for recycling an organocatalyst (4 S )‐phenoxy‐( S )‐proline for direct asymmetric aldol reactions. The desired aldol products were obtained with good yields up to 93.2% and enantioselectivities up to 88.5%, and isolation of the products by simple extraction allowed recycling the ionic liquid containing the immobilized catalyst in subsequent reactions without significant decrease of yields and enantioselectivities.

Synthesis of a Chiral Tridentate Ligand from Proline and Its Application to Enantioselective Addition of Diethylzinc to Aldehydes

A new chiral tridentate ligand [1‐(1‐methyl‐ S ‐pyrrolidin‐2‐ylmethyl)‐ S ‐pyrrolidin‐2‐yl]‐diphenylmethanol ( 1 ) has been successfully synthesized from S ‐proline. The structure of the ligand was characterized by NMR spectra and X‐ray diffraction analysis. Its catalytic ability has also been examined in enantioselective addition of diethylzinc towards aldehydes with 15%–84% enantiomeric excesses ( ee ).

One-pot Synthesis of Bis（dihydropyrimidinone-4-yl）benzene Using Boric Acid as a Catalyst

A simple effective synthesis of bis(dihydropyrimidinone‐4‐yl)benzene derivatives, using boric acid as catalyst, from isophthalic aldehyde or terephthalic aldehyde, 1,3‐dicarbonyl compounds and urea or thiourea in glacial acetic acid was described. As the expansion of the classical Biginelli reaction, this method has the advantage of excellent yields 83%–94% and short reaction time 0.5–1.5 h.
