The Late Triassic Tianqiaoling flora is well-known in China,and its discovery has changed our understanding of Chinese Late Triassic phytogeographical *** broadly,this flora has great significance for the study of phytogeography in East asia during this ***,the previous dating of this flora was only evidenced by plant fossils and stratigraphic correlation,and the accurate dating has still not been *** this study,rhyolite samples were collected from the bottom of the Tianqiaoling Formation,which is conformally contacted the Tianqiaoling flora-bearing *** results of new U-Pb dating gave ages for the rhyolites of 212.8±2.5 Ma,indicating the end of Malugou Formation and initial Tianqiaoling Formation in deposition occurred in the late Norian(~227–208.5 Ma),which is contemporaneous with the peak of the Tianqiaoling flora in *** radiometric dating results are basically consistent with paleobiological *** new age provides a key anchor point for regional stratigraphic correlation of the Tianqiaoling flora with its related Late Triassic floras,and contribute to a better understanding of the geology and phytogeography in the East asia,particularly in the"triangle region"covering the eastern Jilin(China),South Primorye(Russia)and Southwest Japan,during the Late Triassic.

Accretionary complex was usually formed by offscraping of the subducting crustal material over the trench and thus often referred to as subduction zone mé*** structure,composition and forming process of accretionary wedges can provide important insights into the evolution history of ocean basin,ocean-continent material cycle,continental accretion and thus contribute to understanding of the origin of plates and the growth of *** complex is characterized by a block-in-matrix structure associated with imbricate thrusts and isoclinal folds,diversified metamorphic types and intense water-rock interactions,which are distinct to the traditional *** the proposal of the concept of accretionary wedge over a hundred years ago,great progress has been made in a variety of research focuses,such as the identification of the distribution of accretionary complexes,their compositions and formation mechanisms,the affinities of the matrix and igneous rocks,the recognition of the Ocean Plate Stratigraphy(OPS),the reconstruction of oceanic basin,the dynamic background of the tectonic evolution,the relationship between subduction zone and orogenic belt and,in particular,the accretionary complexes in continental subduction *** studies have significantly improved our understanding of the plate tectonic *** remain in the identification of ancient accretionary complexes,the detailed analysis of accretionary complex zones,the accretion characteristics during continental collision,and the geochemical tracing of water-rock interaction during the *** contains representative orogenic belts and accretionary complex zones in the world,and its geological records provide the best opportunity to make new breakthroughs in understanding of the plate tectonics.

An aquatic fern leaf,Flabellariopteris mii Sun *** *** the Late Triassic of Western Liaoning,China,is described and proposed as the type species of the new morphortaxon of the *** fossil leaves are preserved as *** fertile and rhizomatic materials are *** leaves attached at a common point on the top of the petiole are composed of two leaflets joined basally in an opposite *** petiole is *** leaflet is fan-shaped or semi-circular,and commonly divided into four wedge-shaped *** margin of lobes is usually incised,incisions shallow or deep,with bluntly rounded or notched *** veins are conspicuously dichotomous,but anastomoses and marginal vein are *** unique morphological features,including twoparted thin leaflets,size,shape,veins and slender petiole,indicate that the present specimen represents an aquatic fern,which is the oldest fossil record and the first megafossil evidence assignable to Marsileaceae from the Triassic floras.

Permineralized Calamitean Axes from the Upper Permian of Xinjiang, Northwest China and Its Paleoecological Implication

Two anatomically preserved calamitean axes are reported for the first time from the Late Permian Wutonggou Formation in the southern Bogda Mountains, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Re- gion, Northwest China. Based on the anatomical features, these axes are assigned to Arthropitys. A new species Arthropitys taoshuyuanensis sp. nov. is established. A. taoshuyuanensis sp. nov. possesses a large pith and comprises large pith cavity and a narrow perimedullary zone at the nodes and diaphragms at the internodes. Carinal canals are circular and surrounded by a single layer of metaxylem tracheids. Secondary xylem is divided into interfascicular rays and fascicular wedges. Interfascicular rays are ini- tially four to five cells wide and taper abruptly centrifugally. Fascicular wedge consists of thick-walled tracheids and thin-walled fascicular ray cells. Radial tracheid walls have uniseriate or biseriate circular pits, or scalariform pits. The absence of growth rings in the Arthropitys specimens indicates that they probably lived in the wetland area under stable annual temperature and water sufficient conditions.

Solenites (Czekanowskiales) from the Late Mesozoic Jehol Biota of Southeastern Jilin,China and its Paleoclimatic Implications

Situated at the easternmost area of the Late Mesozoic Jehol Biota, China, abundant fossils, including invertebrates, vertebrates and plants, were collected from the Early Cretaceous Yingzuilazi Formation of the Baishan Basin, southeastern Jilin. The faunal remains from this formation distinctly belong to the Early Cretaceous Lycoptera-Ephemeropsis-Eosestheria assemblage of the Jehol Biota. Based on the gross leaf morphology and epidermal structures, two new species and one indeterminate species of genus Solenites （Czekanowskiales）, S. baishanensis sp. nov., S. gracilis sp. nov. and S. sp. are described in this paper. This is the first fossil plant of Czekanowskiales reported from this new fossil locality of the easternmost area of the Late Mesozoic Jehol Biota, China. The new discovery contributes to improve our knowledge for understanding of leaf morphology, epidermal characters and diversity of this genus during the Early Cretaceous time, and extends geologic and geographic distribution of Solenites in northern China and Eurasia. Along with consideration of associated plant and faunal assemblages and sedimentology, we suggest that the regional climate was warm and moderately humid with seasonal temperature and precipitation variations in warm-temperate zone during the Early Cretaceous.

An introductory report on the biodiversity of Middle Jurassic Phoenicopsis(Czekanowskiales) from the Ordos Basin, China

Although the genus Phoenicopsis is the most common member of Czekanowskiales and is considered an indicative representative of the Middle Jurassic Coniopteris–Phoenicopsis assemblage in northern China, little was known about its taxonomy and biodiversity based upon the leaf cuticular structure. In this paper, three subgenera of the genus Phoenicopsis from the Middle Jurassic, Yan'an Formation of the Ordos Basin, China, Phoenicopsis(subg. Phoenicopsis)(Heer) Samylina, P.(subg. Windwardia)(Florin) Samylina and P.(subg. Culgoweria)(Florin) Samylina are identified based upon the leaf epidermal features for the first time. This discovery demonstrates that Phoenicopsis was quite diverse during the Middle Jurassic in northern China. Its biodiversity is significant for further understanding Middle Jurassic paleophytogeography and paleoclimatology of northern China. The current findings show that the three Phoenicopsis subgenera coexisted and flourished in the mixed zone(ecotone) between the Indo-Sinian Floristic Region and the Siberian Floristic Region as seasonal deciduous plants(trees or shrubs) during the Middle Jurassic. They were important elements in the Middle Jurassic deciduous gymnospermous forest community in warm temperate regions with seasonal temperature and precipitation variations. They are interpreted as growing on the hillsides and sloping fields along meandering streams, lakes and swamps in a vast sedimentary basin in a wet and warm environment.

A new species of Phoenicopsis subgenus Windwardia （Florin） Samylina, Phoenicopsis neimengguensis ***., is recognized from the Middle Jurassic Zhaogou Formation in the Shiguai Basin, a Jurassic coal-bearing sedimentary basin in Inner Mongolia, China. Linear leaves are in bundles of six to eight and are attached on a short shoot. The leaf is amphistomatic with one or two irregular rows of longitudinally oriented stomata in each intercostal zone on the upper epidermis and three or four （occasionally six） rows of stomata in each intercostal zone on the lower epidermis. Each stomata is surrounded by four to six subsidiary cells with unevenly developed papillae. The anticlinal walls of epidermal cells are straight. Cuticular thickenings or papillae are present on the outer surface of the periclinal walls. This is the first time that Phoenicopsis subgenus Windwardia （Florin） Samylina is recognized from the Middle Jurassic of Inner Mongolia, China. The occurrence of the new species is noteworthy because it extends the geological and geographic distribution of Phoenicopsis subg. Windwardia in China and Eurasia. The discovery is significant as it increases our knowledge of Phoenicopsis subg. Windwardia by providing new data on morphological and epidermal features.
