The northern Tibetan Plateau is a climatically sensitive zone influenced by monsoon and westerly *** summer,water vapor transport can reach Qinghai Lake and the eastern section of the Qilian Mountains;in winter,westerly winds mainly control the *** article compares the wet/dry changes in the region during the mid-Holocene(MH)warm period,the medieval climate anomaly(MCA),the current warm period(CWP),and the future warm period from the perspective of *** found that the MH warm period was mainly affected by the orbit-controlled East Asian summer monsoon,and the region showed warm and humid climate *** MCA was mainly controlled by solar radiation,and there was a warm and dry *** CWP and the future warm period are mainly controlled by the rise in temperature caused by the increase in greenhouse gases,and the climate is becoming more *** wet/dry patterns in the CWP and the future warm period in the next century on the northern Tibetan Plateau are similar to those in the *** warming will lead to the expansion of the westerly belt and a gradually humid *** future wet/dry changes will be more similar to the MH warm period.

Global warming will affect growth strategies and how trees will *** compare the response of tree radial growth to climate warming in different slope directions,samples of Pinus armandii Franch were collected and treering chronologies developed on northern and western slopes from the Lubanling in the Funiu *** analyses showed that two chronologies were mainly limited by temperatures in the previous June–August and the combination of temperatures and moisture in the current May–*** difference of the climate response to slopes was small but not *** growth of the LBL01 site on the northern slope was affected by the combined maximum and minimum temperatures,while that of the LBL02 site was affected by maximum *** regards to moisture,radial growth of the trees on the north slope was influenced by the relative humidity in the current May–July,while on the western slope,it was affected by the relative humidity in the previous June–August,the current May–July and the precipitation in the current May–*** the change in climate,the effects of the main limiting factors on growth on different slopes were visible to a certain extent,but the differences in response of trees on different slopes gradually decreased,which might be caused by factors such as different slope directions and the change in diurnal temperature *** results may provide information for forest protection and ecological construction in this region,and a scientific reference for future climate reconstruction.

Precipitation can shape our climate both in the present and the *** though we have made significant advances in studying the mechanisms of millennial-scale climate changes through high-resolution records,we still cannot quantitatively characterize the global spatiotemporal precipitation variations within the ***,we developed a new approach to integrating data from 349 globally distributed records and climate models to reconstruct regional and global precipitation patterns over the last 12000 *** results reveal that precipitation reconstructions can be divided into monsoon-driven and westerly driven *** results suggest that an arid climate was experienced in the late glacial and early Holocene epoch(~12−7.4 cal ka BP),attaining a middle Holocene optimum(~7.4−3.5 cal ka BP),and drier after the middle *** to our reconstructions,the global precipitation reconstruction increased from the early Holocene until 3.8 cal ka BP and then subsequently *** addition,our reconstructions better reproduce the low-frequency events and extreme precipitation at the millennial scale in the hemispheres,but the performance of the reconstructions in the equatorial Pacific and the southern Hemisphere of Africa and the Americas is *** resolution of the record and the simulation capability of the climate model remain important means to improve our understanding of past climate change.

Changes in annual radial growth is an important indication of climate change. Dendroclimatology studies in northern china have focused on linear statistical analysis,but lacking studies based on the process of ring formation to clarify the radial growth of trees. Tree-ring width standard chronology(sTD) was established using samples of Larix principis-rupprechtii collected at 2303 m altitude on Luya Mountain. Using the Vaganov-shashkin(Vs) model to simulate growth and development, the internal physiological mechanism of radial growth is identified. It was concluded that:(1) the growing season of L. principis-rupprechtii was May to september;(2) soil moisture was a significant factor in the early and late growing seasons, and temperature was the dominant factor in its main growth period;and(3) formation of narrow ring widths was closely related to drought stress, the development of wide ring widths will be restricted by increasing future temperatures. The Vs model is applicable for radial growth simulation of subalpine coniferous forests and for guiding the cultivation of local tree species in the future.

Electroreduction of nitrate has been gaining wide attention in recent years owing to it's beneficial for converting nitrate into benign N_(2) from the perspective of electrocatalytic denitrification or into value-added ammonia from the perspective of electrocatalytic NH_(3) *** reason of the undesired formation of ammonia is dominant during electroreduction of nitrate-containing wastewater,chloride has been widely used to improve N_(2) ***,selective electroreduction of nitrate to N2 gas in chloride-containing system poses several *** this review,we focus on the key strategies for efficiently enhancing N_(2) selectivity of electroreduction of nitrate in chloride-free system,including optimal selection of elements,combining an active metal catalyst with another metal,manipulating the crystalline morphology and facet orientation,constructing core–shell structure catalysts,*** summarizing the strategies,four possible reaction pathways of electro-reduction of nitrate to N_(2) are ***,this review attempts to provide practical strategies for enhancing N2 selectivity without the aid of electrochlorination and highlight directions for future research for designing appropriate electrocatalyst for final electrocatalytic denitrifi-cation.

Millet agriculture,which originated in northern china,alongside rice agriculture,have nurtured the Chinese *** manuring practices likely promoted and maintained sustainable millet agricultural production in the loess area of northern ***,ongoing controversy exists regarding the indicators of prehistoric manuring intensity of foxtail millet(setaria italica)and common millet(Panicum miliaceum).Here,we present the results of pot and field fertilization experiments on two millet *** findings suggest that manuring can significantly increase the δ^(15)N values of foxtail millet,and its δ^(15)N values increase with increasing manuring *** δ^(15)N values of foxtail millet leaves are systematically greater than those of grains by approximately 1.6‰.Manuring could have a long-term residual impact on increasing the δ^(15)N values of soil and millet *** with previous crop fertilization experiment results,we propose that the impact of manuring on the δ^(15)N values of non-nitrogen-fixing crops is roughly *** δ^(15)N value and amount of manure are key factors determining the extent of change in plant δ^(15)N *** millet grain δ^(15)N values can serve as reliable indicators of manuring ***,we provide an interpretive framework for assessing the correlation between manuring levels and the δ^(15)N values of archaeological millet *** δ^(15)N values of ancient millet grains suggest widespread and intensive manuring practices in prehistoric millet agriculture in northern china,spanning from the early Yangshao period to the Longshan period.

This study developed a novel MnFe-LDH/PMs/O3 three-phase catalytic system to degrade the organic dye RhB, which was used to address the drawbacks of persulfate oxidation and ozonation techniques. The structure, ionic and elemental composition, specific surface area, and magnetic properties of the LDHs were investigated using a variety of physicochemical characterization tools. The results showed that MnFe-LDH had a large specific surface area, a rich crystalline phase composition, and a functional group structure. The RhB degradation rate of MnFe-LDH/PMs/O3 was 0.34 min−1, which was much higher than that of other comparative systems. RhB could be completely degraded in 10 min after optimization and had a significant effect on TOC removal. The system was found to be effective over a wide pH range. Common anions were largely unaffected and humic acid acted as an inhibitor. At the same time, the system had generally effective degradation performance for different dyes. Combined with quenching experiments and EPR, it was found that sO4•−, •OH, O_(2)•−, and 1O_(2) all participated in the reaction, and •OH contributed more. The degradation pathway of RhB was derived by LC-Ms, and the T.E.s.T. evaluation found that the toxicity of the intermediate product was significantly reduced. Finally, the stability and availability of LDHs were verified using cycling experiments and metal ion leaching. This work provides a theoretical basis and data support for the synergistic catalysis of PMs/O3 and the deep treatment of dye wastewater.

Finer topographic data improves distribution modeling of Picea crassifolia in the northern Qilian Mountains

The Qilian Mountains, a national key ecological function zone in western china, play a pivotal role in ecosystem services. However, the distribution of its dominant tree species, Picea crassifolia (Qinghai spruce), has decreased dramatically in the past decades due to climate change and human activity, which may have influenced its ecological functions. To restore its ecological functions, reasonable reforestation is the key measure. Many previous efforts have predicted the potential distribution of Picea crassifolia, which provides guidance on regional reforestation policy. However, all of them were performed at low spatial resolution, thus ignoring the natural characteristics of the patchy distribution of Picea crassifolia. Here, we modeled the distribution of Picea crassifolia with species distribution models at high spatial resolutions. For many models, the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) is larger than 0.9, suggesting their excellent precision. The AUC of models at 30 m is higher than that of models at 90 m, and the current potential distribution of Picea crassifolia is more closely aligned with its actual distribution at 30 m, demonstrating that finer data resolution improves model performance. Besides, for models at 90 m resolution, annual precipitation (Bio12) played the paramount influence on the distribution of Picea crassifolia, while the aspect became the most important one at 30 m, indicating the crucial role of finer topographic data in modeling species with patchy distribution. The current distribution of Picea crassifolia was concentrated in the northern and central parts of the study area, and this pattern will be maintained under future scenarios, although some habitat loss in the central parts and gain in the eastern regions is expected owing to increasing temperatures and precipitation. Latewood width(LWW)indices of trees are considered a reliable proxy of summer precipitation in the Northern ***,the strong coupling and high correlation between earlywood width(EWW)and LWW indices often prevent registration of climate signals of the LWW *** this study,328-year-long earlywood width and latewood width chronologies were developed from Chinese pine at two sites in the Hasi Mountains,north central *** climate responses of these chronologies were analyzed and the LWW index used to derive sum-mer precipitation *** analyses showed that LWW was particularly influenced by earlywood growth and recorded stronger climate signals of the previous year as EWW,rather than those of the current year with infrequent summer climate ***,after removing the effect of earlywood growth using a simple regression model,the adjusted LWW chronology(LWW_(adj))showed a strong relationship with July precipitation in dry *** suggests that the LWW_(adj) chronology has the potential to be used to investigate long-term variability in summer precipitation in drought-limited regions.
