Objective:Rheumatoid arthritis(RA)is a common autoimmune disease characterized by multiple joint lesions and systemic *** Niantong decoction(DGNTT)has been clinically used for RA treatment;however,its beneficial effect on cardiopulmonary complications has not been ***:Female tumor necrosis factor-transgenic(TNF-Tg)mice were used to evaluate the therapeutic effects of DGNTT on arthritis and cardiopulmonary ***(MTX)served as a positive *** assessment of the joint sections was performed using hematoxylin and eosin(HE),Alcian Blue/Orange G,and tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase *** mass was assessed by micro-computed tomography,inflammatory infiltrates in the heart and lungs were evaluated by HE staining,cardiopulmonary fibrotic injury was identified by Masson’s trichrome staining,and hypertrophy of mouse cardiomyocytes was measured by wheat germ agglutinin(WGA)***:DGNTT mitigated the inflammation of the ankle joint synovium,decreased the number of osteoclasts,and increased the area of cartilage and bone mass in TNF-Tg *** addition,DGNTT decreased the infiltration of inflammatory cells into the lung and heart tissues,accompanied by a reduction in cardiopulmonary fibrosis and myocardial cell hypertrophy in TNF-Tg *** a positive control drug,MTX attenuated the pathological changes in joints,but had no beneficial effect on cardiopulmonary inflammation and fibrosis in TNF-Tg ***:DGNTT improved joint lesions and alleviated cardiopulmonary complications in TNF-Tg mice.

Abductive subconcept learning

Bridging neural network learning and symbolic reasoning is crucial for strong AI. Few pioneering studies have made some progress on logical reasoning tasks that require partitioned inputs of instances(e.g.,sequential data), from which a final concept is formed based on the complex(perhaps logical) relationships between them. However, they cannot apply to low-level cognitive tasks that require unpartitioned inputs(e.g., raw images), such as object recognition and text classification. In this paper, we propose abductive subconcept learning(ASL) to bridge neural network learning and symbolic reasoning on unsegmented image classification tasks. ASL uses deep learning and abductive logical reasoning to jointly learn subconcept perception and secondary reasoning. Specifically, it first employs meta-interpretive learning(MIL) to induce first-order logical hypotheses capturing the relationships between the high-level subconcepts that account for the target concept. Then, it uses the groundings of the logical hypotheses as labels to train a deep learning model for identifying the subconcepts from unpartitioned data. ASL jointly trains the deep learning model and learns the MIL theory by minimizing the inconsistency between their grounded outputs. Experimental results show that ASL successfully integrates machine learning and logical reasoning with accurate and interpretable results in several object recognition tasks.

Applying chinese medicine(CM) is an important strategy for malignant tumor treatment in China. One of the significant characteristics of CM is to treat diseases based on syndrome differentiation. For Western medicine, it is of important clinical significance to formulate guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients based on the characteristics of disease differentiation. In chinese clinical practice, the combination of disease differentiation and syndrome differentiation is an important feature for cancer treatment in the past. Currently, molecular profiling and genomic analysis-based precision medicine optimizes the anticancer drug design and holds the greatest success in treating cancer patients. Therefore, we want to know which populations of cancer patients can benefit more from CM treatment if the theory of precision medicine is applied to CM clinical practice. So, we developed a novel diagnostic and therapeutic strategy "disease-syndrome differentiation-genomic profilingprescriptions" for cancer patients by CM syndrome differentiation and precision medicine. As a result, this strategy has greatly enhanced the anti-tumor efficacy of CM and improved clinical outcomes for cancer patients with some gene mutations. Our idea will hopefully establish a novel approach for the inheritance and innovation of CM.

Effectiveness of acupuncture-related therapies on schizophrenia:a Bayesian network Meta-analysis

Dampness-Heat Accelerates DMBA-Induced Mammary Tumors in Rats

Objective： To investigate the impact of dampness-heat （DH） on the development of mammary tumors in 7,12-dimethylbenz（a）anthracene （DMBA）-induced rats. Methods： Forty rats were randomly divided into 3 groups in a randomized block design, including the control group （n=13）, DMBA group （n=14）, and DMBA plus DH group （n=13）. Rats in the DMBA group and DMBA plus DH group were intragastrically administrated with DMBA （100 mg/kg） for twice, once per week, while rats in the control group were treated with equivalent volumes of sesame oil. After DMBA administration, rats in the DMBA plus DH group were exposed to a simulated climate chamber with ambient temperature （33.0 ± 0.5 ℃） and humidity （90% ± 5%） for 8 weeks, 8 h per day. The body weight, time of tumor formation, and number of tumors were measured weekly to calculate tumor incidence, average latency period, average number of tumors, and average tumor weight. At the end of the experiment, the levels of matrix metalloproteinase 9 （MMP-9） and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases 1 （TIMP-1） in serum, and the contents of tumor necrosis factor- α （TNF- α ） and interleukin （IL）-1β in serum and tumor tissue were measured, respectively. Some tumor tissues were processed for hematoxylin-eosin staining to determine the histopathological changes. Results： Compared with DMBA, DMBA plus DH significantly increased the average number of tumors, average tumor weight, levels of serum MMP-9, TiMP-1, TNF- α and IL-1β, and contents of tumor tissue TNF- α and IL-1β （P〈0.05 or P〈0.01）. Conclusion： DH could accelerate the development of mammary tumors through increasing the expressions of MMP-9, TIMP-1, TNF- α and IL-1β in DMBA-induced rats.

The “traditional chinese medicine regulating liver regeneration” treatment plan for reducing mortality of patients with hepatitis B-related liver failure based on real-world clinical data

On the basis of real-world clinical data,the study aimed to explore the effect and mechanisms of the treatment plan of“traditional chinese medicine(TCM)regulating liver regeneration.”A total of 457 patients with HBV-related liver failure were retrospectively *** patients were divided into three groups:the modern medicine control group(MMC group),patients treated with routine medical treatment;the control group combining traditional chinese and Western medicine(CTW),patients treated with routine medical treatment plus the common TCM formula;and the treatment group of“TCM regulating liver regeneration”(RLR),patients treated with both routine medical treatment and the special TCM formula of *** 8 weeks of treatment,the mortality of patients in the RLR group(12.31%)was significantly lower than those in the MMC(50%)and CTW(29.11%)*** bilirubin level significantly decreased and albumin increased in the RLR group when compared with the MMC and CTW groups(P<0.05).In addition,there were significant differences in the expression of several cytokines related to liver regeneration in the RLR group compared with the MMC *** treatment can decrease jaundice,improve liver function,and significantly reduce the mortality in patients with HBV-related liver *** mechanism may be related to the role of RLR treatment in influencing cytokines related to liver regeneration.

The Reality and Application of Yin and Yang

Ancient chinese philosophers discovered Yin and Yang and the laws of Yin and Yang movement during their exploration and practice of nature more than two thousand years ago, and applied them to life, science, philosophy and medicine, playing an important role in the achievement of ancient chinese civilization. Through historical changes, yin and yang have gradually been regarded as a concept or theory, thus making it difficult for people to understand the connotation of Yin-Yang and make new discoveries and progress. Nowadays, many scholars in China and the West are interested in studying the treasures of ancient chinese civilization. We illustrate the actual function of Yin and Yang by explaining the essential state of matter, the law of physical movement, the transformation of energy, and then illustrate the practical application in life and science. In conclusion, yin-yang is a key to unlocking the treasures of traditional chinese civilization, which can help to bring into play its original values, and continue to provide new insights and directions for the development of modern science and the advancement of humanities.
