Assessing the range of blasting-induced cracks in the surrounding rock of deeply buried tunnels based on the unified strength theory

Blasting-induced cracks in the rock surrounding deeply buried tunnels can result in water gushing and rock mass collapse,posing significant safety ***,previous theoretical studies on the range of blasting-induced cracks often ignore the impact of the in-situ stress,especially that of the intermediate principal *** particle displacement−crack radius relationship was established in this paper by utilizing the blasthole cavity expansion equation,and theoretical analytical formulas of the stress−displacement relationship and the crack radius were derived with unified strength theory to accurately assess the range of cracks in deep surrounding rock under a blasting *** analysis showed that the crushing zone size was positively correlated with in-situ stress,intermediate principal stress,and detonation pressure,whereas negatively correlated with Poisson ratio and decoupling *** dilatancy angle-crushing zone size relationship exhibited nonmonotonic *** relationships in the crushing zone and the fracture zone exhibited opposite trends under the influence of only in-situ stress or intermediate principal *** the in-situ stress increased from 0 to 70 MPa,the rate of change in the crack range and the attenuation rate of the peak vibration velocity gradually slowed.

Three-dimensional limit variation analysis on the ultimate pullout capacity of the anchor cables based on the Hoek-Brown failure criterion

Only simplified two-dimensional model and a single failure mode are adopted to calculate the ultimate pullout capacity(UPC)of anchor cables in most previous *** study focuses on a more comprehensive combination failure mode that consists of bond failure of an anchorage body and failure of an anchored rock *** three-dimensional ultimate pullout capacity of the anchor cables is calculated based on the Hoek-Brown failure criterion and variation analysis *** numerical solution for the curvilinear function in fracture plane is obtained based on the finite difference theory,which more accurately reflects the failure state of the anchor cable,as opposed to that being assumed in *** results reveal that relying solely on a single failure mode for UPC calculations has limitations,as changes in parameter values not only directly impact the UPC value but also can alter the failure model and thus the calculation method.

Stability analysis of intermittently jointed rock slopes based on the stepped failure mode

In practical engineering,due to the noncontinuity characteristics of joints in rock slopes,in addition to plane failure,stepped sliding failure may occur for intermittently jointed rock *** for intermittently bedding jointed rock slopes,the correlation and difference in strength parameters between joints and rock bridges,along with the various failure modes and intermittency of rock bridges,contribute to the complexity of stepped failure modes and the unpredictability of failure *** on the upper-bound limit analysis method and multi-sliders step-path failure mode,considering the shear and tensile failure of rock bridges and the weakened relationship between the strength parameters of rock bridges and jointed surfaces,by introducing the modified M-C failure criterion and the formula for calculating the energy consumption of tensile failure of rock bridges,two failure mechanisms are constructed to obtain the safety factor(F_(s))of intermittently jointed rock *** sequential quadratic programming method is used to obtain the optimal upper-bound solution for F_(s).The influence of multiple key parameters(slope height H,horizontal distance L,Slope angleβ,shear strength parameters of the rock bridgeφr and cr,Dimensionless parameter u,weakening coefficients of the internal friction angle and cohesion between the rock bridges and joint surfaces Kφand Kc)on the stability analysis of intermittently jointed rock slopes under the shear failure mode of rock bridges as well as under the tensile failure mode is also *** reliability of the failure mechanisms is verified by comparative analysis with theoretical results,numerical results,and landslide cases,and the variation rules of F_(s)with each key parameter are *** results show that F_(s) varies linearly withφr and cr of the rock bridge and with K_(φ)and K_(c),whereas F_(s)changes nonlinearly with H and *** particular,with the increase in Kφand Kc,Fs increases by approximately 52.

Few-layered hexagonal boron nitride nanosheets stabilized Pt NPs for oxidation promoted adsorptive desulfurization of fuel oil

A few-layered hexagonal boron nitride nanosheets stabilized platinum nanoparticles(Pt/h-BNNS)is engineered for oxidation-promoted adsorptive desulfurization(OPADS)of fuel *** was found that the few-layered structure and the defective sites of h-BNNS not only are beneficial to the stabilization of Pt NPs but also favor the adsorption of aromatic *** employing Pt/h-BNNS with a Pt loading amount of 1.19 wt%as the active adsorbent and air as an oxidant,a 98.0%sulfur removal over dibenzothiophene(DBT)is achieved along with a total conversion of the DBT to the corresponding sulfones(DBTO_(2)).Detailed experiments show that the excellent desulfurization activity originates from the few-layered structure of h-BNNS and the high catalytic activity of Pt *** addition,the OPADS system with Pt/h-BNNS as the active adsorbent shows remarkable stability in desulfurization performance with the existence of different interferents such as olefin,and aromatic ***,the Pt/h-BNNS can be recycled 12 times without a significant decrease in desulfurization ***,a process flow diagram is proposed for deep desulfurization of fuel oil and recovery of high value-added products,which would promote the industrial application of such OPADS strategy.

Double active sites promoting hydrogen evolution activity and stability of CoRuOH/Co_(2)P by rapid hydrolysis

Cobalt-based phosphides show excellent hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)performance,however,improving the intrinsic activity and stability of it in alkaline electrolyte still remains a ***,CoRuOH/Co_(2)P/CF with heterojunction structure was developed by means of molten salt and rapid hydrolysis(30 s).The OH-from rapid surface hydrolysis of Co_(2)P as a hydrogen adsorption site can facilitate the formation of thin CoRuOH layer as a water dissociation site,which may bring out better synergistic effect for alkaline ***,the covering of CoRuOH can improve the stability of Co_(2)P for *** drives at 100 mA/cm^(2),it only requires overpotential of 81 mV in 1.0 mol/L KOH(25℃).Even at higher current density(1000 mA/cm^(2)),CoRuOH/Co_(2)P/CF can also operate stability for at least 100 *** coupling with NiFe-LDH/IF in a two-electrode system,the voltage of NiFe-LDH/IF(+)||CoRuOH/Co_(2)P/CF(-)at 1000 mA/cm^(2)is merely 1.77 V with 100 h,demonstrating great potential for water *** implementation of this work provides a new strategy and reference for the further improvement of transition metal phosphides as HER electrocatalysts.

One-step selective separation and efficient recovery of valuable metals from spent lithium batteries by phosphoric acid-based deep eutectic solvent

With more and more lithium-ion batteries(LIBs) being put into production and application, precious metals such as lithium and cobalt are scarce, so it is imminent to recover various strategic metal resources from spent ***, the complex and difficult problem of separating and recovering metals from leaching solutions has been an urgent question that needs to be resolved. In this work, a phosphoric acid-based deep eutectic solvent(DES) was developed for extracting metals from spent LIBs and one-step selectively separating and efficiently recovering transition metal. The prepared DES shows excellent extraction performance for Li(100%) and Co(92.8%) at 100°C. In addition, the extraction system can effectively separate and precipitate Co through its own components, avoiding the introduction of new precipitants and the destruction of the original composition structure of DES. This also contributes to the good cycle stability of the extraction system with excellent extraction performance for Li(94.3%) and Co(80.8%) after 5 cycles. This work proposes a green method for one-step selectively separating and recovering valuable metals from spent LIBs.

Low-concentration and multi-component NMHCs capture from oil field exhaust using porous ZIF-8/iso-hexadecane slurry

Non-methane hydrocarbons(NMHCs)are a common type of volatile organic compounds(VOCs)pollutant in the petrochemical industry and have attracted widespread attention because of their adverse health effects and environmental *** this paper,we report a new porous slurry formed with zeolitic imidazolate framework-8(ZIF-8)and iso-hexadecane to capture the low-concentration and multi-component NMHCs(mainly ethane(C_(2)H_(6)),propane(C_(3)H_(8)),and n-butane(n-C_(4)H_(10)))from the oil field *** sorption capacity of C_(2)H_(6)in the slurry is significantly higher than that of nitrogen(N_(2))and methane(CH_(4)).Moreover,the slurry demonstrated a clear advantage for C_(2)H_(6)over N_(2)and CH_(4)in competitive adsorption through the pressure-drop *** the NMHCs capture experiments,the C_(3)H_(8)and n-C_(4)H_(10)concentrations after purification can be reduced to below 100 ppm,while the C_(2)H_(6)concentration can reach approximately 180 *** encouragingly,in the breakthrough tests,the slurry exhibits a perfect kinetic separation selectivity for multi-component ***,to avoid structural collapse of ZIF-8 material during long-term use in acidic and wet environments,a certain amount of 2-methylimidazole was retained in the slurry as a protective agent in the material synthesis *** this way,the ZIF-8 materials in the slurry can retain the stable characteristic structure in an aqueous and acidic environment and keep the capture capacity for NMHCs without *** believe the porous ZIF-8/iso-hexadecane slurry is a promising capture agent for low-concentration and multi-component NMHCs with strong purification capacity and stability.

Dynamic response and failure process of horizontal-layered fractured structure rock slope under strong earthquake

Rock slope with horizontal-layered fractured structure(HLFS)has high stability in its natural ***,a strong earthquake can induce rock fissure expansion,ultimately leading to slope *** this study,the dynamic response,failure mode,and spectral characteristics of rock slope with HLFS under strong earthquake conditions were investigated based on the large-scale shaking table model *** this basis,multiple sets of numerical calculation models were further established by UDEC discrete element *** influencing factors were considered in the parametric study of numerical simulations,including slope height,slope angle,bedding-plane spacing and secondary joint spacing as well as bedrock dip *** results showed that the failure process of rock slope with HLFS under earthquake action is mainly divided into four phases,i.e.,the tensile crack of the slope shoulder joints and shear dislocation at the top bedding plane,the extension of vertical joint cracks and increase of shear displacement,the formation of step-through sliding surfaces and the instability,and finally collapse of fractured rock *** acceleration response of slopes exhibits elevation amplification effect and surface *** simulations indicate that the seismic stability of slopes with HLFS exhibits a negative correlation with slope height and angle,but a positive correlation with bedding-plane spacing,joint spacing,and bedrock dip *** results of this study can provide a reference for seismic stability evaluation of weathered rock slopes.
