Coseismic surface ruptures of mW7.8 and mW7.5 earthquakes occurred on February 6, 2023, and seismic hazard assessment of the east Anatolian Fault Zone, Southeastern Türkiye

On February 6, 2023, southeastern Türkiye experienced a devastating earthquake doublet along the east Anatolian Fault（eAF）, with moment magnitude（mW） values of 7.8 and 7.5. These strong earthquakes resulted in at least 50,000 deaths and severe economic losses. Systematic research on coseismic surface ruptures induced by these events is vital for assessing the cascade rupture behaviors of plate boundary faults and future seismic hazards in the region. Interpretation of high-resolution post-earthquake satellite images and field investigations yielded the following results:（1） the two strong earthquakes had separate rupture zones. The first earthquake generated an approximately 280 km coseismic surface rupture along the southwestern segment of the main eAF, with 241 left-lateral displacements reaching up to 6.8±0.68 m, particularly 40 km northeast of the epicenter. The second earthquake produced a roughly 110 km surface rupture on an east-west branch of the eAF, with maximum displacements of 7.2±0.72 m.（2） The mW7.8 earthquake resulted in a cascading rupture across multiple segments of the southwestern section of the main eAF, with significantly variable displacements. The northeastern and southwestern parts of the main eAF and malatya Fault remain at risk of strong earthquakes in the future.（3） The eAF rupture zone is densely populated, and due to the site amplification effect of loose sediments on foreland alluvial fans, foundation failures of buildings in the populated areas are common. Therefore, it is crucial to enhance the future seismic fortification capabilities in urban and rural areas along the eAF.

For room temperature self-healing triboelectric nanogenerators（TeNGs）, the inherent contradiction between mechanical strength and self-healing properties was an urgent problem to be solved. Based on the phenol-carbamate bond, this paper proposed a strategy to design a new molecular structure and coordinate the triple dynamic bonds, which provided a feasible strategy to solve this contradiction. With polytetramethylene ether glycol（m_n= 1,000） as the soft segment in the main chain of polyurethane（PU）, meanwhile methylene diphenyl diisocyanate and 4,4′-dihydroxybiphenyl（BP） as the hard segment and chain extension agent, respectively, the combination of tetrad benzene ring endowed the resultant 4BP-PU with π-π interaction. The effective reversible dissociation and association with hydrogen bond not only bestowed 4BP-PU with high mechanical strength（16.14 mPa）, but also promoted high self-healing efficiency（94.8%） at room temperature. 4BP-PU was selected as the elastic substrate between polydimethylsiloxane and copper sheet to prepare a self-healing TeNG to collect energy from natural ***, the rational molecular structure design provided new ideas for developing self-healing materials and fabricating energy harvest electronics.

GPS: graph contrastive learning via multi-scale augmented views from adversarial pooling

Self-supervised graph representation learning has recently shown considerable promise in a range of fields, including bioinformatics and social networks. A large number of graph contrastive learning approaches have shown promising performance for representation learning on graphs, which train models by maximizing agreement between original graphs and their augmented views(i.e., positive views). Unfortunately, these methods usually involve pre-defined augmentation strategies based on the knowledge of human experts. moreover, these strategies may fail to generate challenging positive views to provide sufficient supervision signals. In this paper, we present a novel approach named graph pooling contrast(GPS) to address these *** by the fact that graph pooling can adaptively coarsen the graph with the removal of redundancy, we rethink graph pooling and leverage it to automatically generate multi-scale positive views with varying emphasis on providing challenging positives and preserving semantics, i.e., strongly-augmented view and weakly-augmented view. Then, we incorporate both views into a joint contrastive learning framework with similarity learning and consistency learning, where our pooling module is adversarially trained with respect to the encoder for adversarial robustness. experiments on twelve datasets on both graph classification and transfer learning tasks verify the superiority of the proposed method over its counterparts.

molecular dynamics simulation of quartz deformation under slow earthquake background

Slow earthquakes are the primary mechanism of slow energy release, and research on the focal mechanism has been inconclusive. Studies have primarily focused on the friction law based on physical mechanisms and have suggested that slow earthquakes are caused by brittle faults. However, the focal strength and structural characteristics of slow earthquakes in subduction zones provide evidence of plastic deformation. What is the role of plastic deformation in the focal mechanisms of slow earthquakes? mechanochemical study have shown that mechanical forces can directly affect chemical bonds. In this study,we examine the storage and release of chemical energy during plastic deformation and consider a mechanochemical process in the focal mechanism of slow earthquakes. Combined with the Tersoff potential, molecular dynamics simulation on the shear deformation process of two α-quartz crystals show that the shear modulus of α-quartz is 18 GPa, and that the crystal model primarily exhibits atoms flowing and changing in the direction of chemical bonds during the steady-state flow stage. The molecular potential energy and stress vary in an oscillating up-and-down curve during shear, indicating that chemical energy can be stored and released during plastic deformation. This is consistent with the energy variation during slow earthquakes. Under the initial simple-shear loading condition, α-quartz crystals undergo general shear deformation instead of plane strain and the angle between the longest instantaneous stretching axis （ISA1） and the shearing direction is approximately 30°, not 45°. Both the deformation type and direction of ISA1are contrary to basic deformation theory, which may provide clues for future *** study reveals the process of quartz elastic-plastic shear deformation on an atomic scale. This information is useful for understanding focal mechanisms of slow earthquakes. This study is part of a series of investigations on tectonic stress chemistry.

e-PRedictor: an approach for early prediction of pull request acceptance

A pull request (PR) is an event in Git where a contributor asks project maintainers to review code he/she wants to merge into a project. The PR mechanism greatly improves the efficiency of distributed software development in the opensource community. Nevertheless, the massive number of PRs in an open-source software (OSS) project increases the workload of developers. To reduce the burden on developers, many previous studies have investigated factors that affect the chance of PRs getting accepted and built prediction models based on these factors. However, most prediction models are built on the data after PRs are submitted for a while (e.g., comments on PRs), making them not useful in practice. Because integrators still need to spend a large amount of effort on inspecting PRs. In this study, we propose an approach named e-PRedictor (earlier PR predictor) to predict whether a PR will be merged when it is created. e-PRedictor combines three dimensions of manual statistic features (i.e., contributor profile, specific pull request, and project profile) and deep semantic features generated by BeRT models based on the description and code changes of PRs. To evaluate the performance of e-PRedictor, we collect475192 PRs from 49 popular open-source projects on GitHub. The experiment results show that our proposed approach can effectively predict whether a PR will be merged or not. e-PRedictor outperforms the baseline models (e.g., Random Forest and VDCNN) built on manual features significantly. In terms of F1@merge, F1@Reject, and AUC (area under the receiver operating characteristic curve), the performance of e-PRedictor is 90.1%, 60.5%, and 85.4%, respectively.

Since their discovery,CRISPR/Cas systems have significantly expanded the genetic toolbox,aiding in the exploration and enhanced production of natural products across various *** these,class 2 CRISPR/Cas systems are simpler and more broadly used,but they frequently fail to function effectively in many Streptomyces *** this study,we present an engineered class 1 type I CRISPR/Cas system derived from Streptomyces avermitilis,which enables efficient gene editing in phylogenetically distant Streptomyces *** a plasmid interference assay,we identified the effective protospacer adjacent motif as 5′-AAN-3′.Utilizing this system,we achieved targeted chromosomal deletions ranging from 8 bp to 100 kb,with efficiencies exceeding 92%.We further utilized this system to insert DNA fragments into different Streptomyces genomes,facilitating the heterologous expression of exogenous genes and the activation of endogenous natural product biosynthetic gene ***,we established a type I CRISPR/Cas-based gene-editing methodology that significantly advances the exploration of Streptomyces,known for their rich natural product *** is the first report of a gene editing tool developed based on the endogenous class 1 type I CRISPR/Cas system in Streptomyces *** work enriches the Streptomyces gene manipulation toolbox and advances the discovery of valuable natural products within these organisms.

Genesis of geothermal water in the hinterland of Guanzhong Basin， China: Insight from hydrochemical and isotopic analysis

The Guanzhong Basin， located in Shaanxi Province， China， has abundant geothermal resources in its hinterland. Focusing on typical thermal reservoir structural units， namely the Xianli fault-step (XL) and Xi'an depression (XA)， this study reveals the genesis of geothermal water by combining hydrochemistry and environmental isotopes. The geothermal waters of XL uniformly correspond to the Na-Cl type with high contents of major ions， while the geothermal water of XA has complex hydrochemical types. The quartz geothermometer (with maximum steam loss) and Na-K-Ca geothermometer are recommended for XL and the quartz geothermometer (with no and maximum steam loss) and Na-K geothermometer for XA. Their temperature ranges are 99-159℃ and 93-146℃， respectively. The circulation depth of geofluids in XL and XA range from 2579 to 4766 m and from 2541 to 4330 m， with mean apparent ages of 21543 and 20345 yr B.P.， respectively. The geothermal water in XL originates from a mixture of sedimentary water and ancient infiltration water， and its formation mode was the vertical heat conduction with cooling process. In contrast， the geothermal water in XA originates from the dual process of cooling and mixing， with the process being dominated by ancient infiltration water and supplementation by modern infiltration water.
