Purified terephthalic acid(PTA) is an important chemical raw material. P-xylene(PX) is transformed to terephthalic acid(TA) through oxidation process and TA is refined to produce PTA. The PX oxidation reaction is a complex process involving three-phase reaction of gas, liquid and solid. To monitor the process and to improve the product quality, as well as to visualize the fault type clearly, a fault diagnosis method based on selforganizing map(SOM) and high dimensional feature extraction method, local tangent space alignment(LTSA),is proposed. In this method, LTSA can reduce the dimension and keep the topology information simultaneously,and SOM distinguishes various states on the output map. Monitoring results of PX oxidation reaction process indicate that the LTSA–SOM can well detect and visualize the fault type.

The search efficiency of differential evolution （DE） algorithm is greatly impacted by its control parameters. Although many adaptation/self-adaptation techniques can automatically find suitable control parameters for the DE, most techniques are based on pop- ulation information which may be misleading in solving complex optimization problems. Therefore, a self-adaptive DE （i.e., JADE） using two-phase parameter control scheme （TPC-JADE） is proposed to enhance the performance of DE in the current study. In the TPC-JADE, an adaptation technique is utilized to generate the control parameters in the early population evolution, and a well-known empirical guideline is used to update the control parameters in the later evolution stages. The TPC-JADE is compared with four state-of-the-art DE variants on two famous test suites （i.e., IEEE CEC2005 and IEEE CEC2015）. Results indicate that the overall performance of the TPC-JADE is better than that of the other compared algorithms. In addition, the proposed algorithm is utilized to obtain optimal nutrient and inducer feeding for the Lee-Ramirez bioreactor. Experimental results show that the TPC-JADE can perform well on an actual dynamic optimization problem.

The scheduling process of cracking furnace feedstock is important in an ethylene plant. In this paper it is described as a constraint optimization problem. The constraints consist of the cycle of operation, maximum tube metal temperature, process time of each feedstock, and flow rate. A modified group search optimizer is proposed to deal with the optimization problem. Double fitness values are defined for every group. First, the factor of penalty function should be changed adaptively by the ratio of feasible and general solutions. Second, the "excellent" infeasible solution should be retained to guide the search. Some benchmark functions are used to evaluate the new algorithm. Finally, the proposed algorithm is used to optimize the scheduling process of cracking furnace feedstock. And the optimizing result is obtained.

The ammonia synthesis reactor is the core unit in the whole ammonia synthesis production. The ammonia concentration at the ammonia converter outlet is a significant process variable, which reflects directly the production efficiency. However, it is hard to be measured reliably online in real applications. In this paper, a soft sensor based on BP neural network (BPNN) is applied to estimate the ammonia concentration. A modified group search optimization with nearest neighborhood (GSO-NH) is proposed to optimize the weights and thresholds of BPNN. GSO-NH is integrated with BPNN to build a soft sensor model. Finally, the soft sensor model based on BPNN and GSO-NH (GSO-NH-NN) is used to infer the outlet ammonia concentration in a real-world application. Three other modeling methods are applied for comparison with GSO-NH-NN. The results show that the soft sensor based on GSO-NH-NN has a good prediction performance with high accuracy. Moreover, the GSO-NH-NN also provides good generalization ability to other modeling problems in ammonia synthesis production.

In reality, traditional process control system built upon centralized and hierarchical structures presents a weak response to change and is easy to shut down by single failure. Aiming at these problems, a new agent-based service-oriented integration architecture was proposed for chemical process automation system. Web services were dynamically orchestrated on the internet and agent behaviors were built in them. Data analysis, model, optimization, control, fault diagnosis and so on were capsuled into different web services. Agents were used for service compositions by negotiation. A prototype system of poly(ethylene terephthalate) process automation was used as the case study to demonstrate the validation of the integration.

Absorptive separation for resource utilization by selective SO2 removal from flue gas is a potential method applicable in practice. A flue gas desulfurization process for SO2 utilization by selective absorption in a lab-scale absorption tower at atmospheric pressure using N-formylmorpholine (NFM) as the absorbent is developed to capture and concentrate the SO2 from flue gas, in which the CO2 content is several orders higher than that of SO2. The investigation of the effects of different operating conditions on the SO2 removal efficiency shows that the SO2 removal efficiency can be obviously enhanced by increasing NFM concentration, or decreasing the absorption temperature, the superficial gas velocity, the gas-liquid ratio, or the SO2 concentration in absorption solution. Under the optimum operating conditions (covering a temperature of 40 °C, a superficial gas velocity of <0.0165 m/s, a gas-liquid ratio of 200—250, a SO2 concentration in lean NFM solution of 0—10 mg/L, and a NFM concentration of 3 mol/L), the SO2 removal rate reaches over 99.5% while the absorption of CO2 is negligible. Similarly, the SO2 removal rate is as high as 99.5% obtained in consecutive absorption-desorption cycles. Desorption experiment results indicate that the absorption of sulfur dioxide is completely reversible and the release of SO2 from NFM is very easy and rapid at 104 °C. The absorption simulation result for desulfurization of flue gas vented from the industrial catalytic cracking regenerator shows that 98.0% of SO2 can be absorbed in the absorber and most of them are released in the desorber. The experimental and simulated results show that the desulfurization ability and regenerability of NFM solution is encouraging for the development of FGD process to capture the SO2 from flue gas.

For mobile anchor node static path planning cannot accord the actual distribution of node for dynamic adjustment. We take advantage of the high localization accuracy and low computational complexity of ad-hoc localization system( AHLos)algorithm. This article introduces mobile anchor nodes instead of the traditional fixed anchor nodes to improve the algorithm. The result shows that, through introduce the mobile anchor node, the information of initial anchor nodes can be configured more ***,with the use of the approximate location and the transition path,the distance and energy consumption of the mobile anchor node is greatly reduced.

Independent component analysis( ICA) has been widely applied to the monitoring of non-Gaussian processes. Despite lots of applications,there is no universally accepted criterion to select the dominant independent components( ICs). Moreover, how to determine the number of dominant ICs is still an open question. To further address this issue,a novel process monitoring based on IC contribution( ICC) is proposed from the perspective of information storage. Based on the ICC with each variable,the dominant ICs can be obtained and the number of dominant ICs is determined objectively. To further preserve the process information, the remaining ICs are not useless. As a result,all the ICs are regarded to be divided into dominant and residual subspaces. The monitoring models are established respectively in each subspace, and then Bayesian inference is applied to integrating monitoring results of the two subspaces. Finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method are illustrated through a numerical example and the Tennessee eastman process.
