Theoretical analysis of the elastic Kelvin-Helmholtz instability in explosive weldings

By considering the joint effects of the Kelvin-Helmholtz(KH) and Rayleigh-Taylor(RT) instabilities, this paper presents an interpretation of the wavy patterns that occur in explosive welding. It is assumed that the elasticity of the material at the interface effectively determines the wavelength, because explosive welding is basically a solid-state welding process. To this end, an analytical model of elastic hydrodynamic instabilities is proposed, and the most unstable mode is selected in the solid phase. Similar approaches have been widely used to study the interfacial behavior of solid metals in high-energy-density physics. By comparing the experimental and theoretical results, it is concluded that thermal softening,which significantly reduces the shear modulus, is necessary and sufficient for successful welding. The thermal softening is verified by theoretical analysis of the increase in temperature due to the impacting and sliding of the flyer and base plates, and some experimental observations are qualitatively *** summary, the combined effect of the KH and RT instabilities in solids determines the wavy morphology, and our theoretical results are in good qualitative agreement with experimental and numerical observations.

The organic single-crystal field-effect transistors using anthracene derivative, H-Ant as an active layer with source/drain electrodes decorated by metal charge transfer salt(Cu TCNQ) were fabricated. We demonstrated that this bottom-contact structure displayed an obvious improvement in the electrical characteristics relative to their pristine copper and top-contact gold electrode counterparts. This observation could be ascribed to the lower contact resistance resulting from the energetic match between electrodes and semiconductor.

Dynamic photoresponsive molecular crystals are promising candidates for making intelligent devices and materials in the ***,we synthesized a new photoactive molecule(E)-2,2-dimethyl-5-[3-(naphthalen-1-yl)allylide]-1,3-dioxane-4,6-dione[(E)-DNADD]that undergoes an E-to-Z photoisomerization in both liquid solution and solids when exposed to visible light(405 nm).Compared to the bulk crystals,the photoresponsive behavior in microcrystals was profoundly *** crystalline(E)-DNADD microplate crystals exhibit robust motions,including bending,curling,and coiling under light *** photoproduct conversion of the photochemical reaction in the microplate is no more than 20%,while the large bending curvature of the coiled illuminated samples was estimated at approximately 150–300 mm−1,comparable to some photoactive *** results indicate that shrinking crystal dimensions can boost the photoresponses in molecular crystals and provide a facile strategy for developing dynamic molecular crystals at the microscopic scale.

Synthesis of Large-Area, Few-Layer Graphene on Iron Foil by Chemical Vapor Deposition

We demonstrate a simple and controllable way to synthesize large-area, few-layer graphene on iron substrates by an optimized chemical vapor deposition （CVD） method using a mixture of methane and hydrogen. Based on an analysis of the Fe-C phase diagram, a suitable procedure for the successful synthesis of graphene on Fe surfaces was designed. An appropriate temperature and cooling process were found to be very important in the synthesis of highly crystalline few-layer graphene. Graphene-based field-effect transistor （FET） devices were fabricated using the resulting few-layer graphene, and showed good quality with extracted mobilities of 300-1150 cm2/（V.s）.

The produced water from the oilfield was purified with filter material and then injected back into the *** serpentine filter material was easy to harden with the increase in filtration amount,which affected the water quality.A superhydrophilic/underwater oleophobic serpentine filter material was successfully prepared by a simple method of coating modification,which exhibited long-lasting filtration of oily water,good filtration and anti-fouling properties,and resistance to *** film-forming material of the superhydrophilic/underwater oleophobic coating was composed of SiO_(2) particles with small size,which could completely and evenly cover the filter *** weight loss was only 7.6%after mechanical stirring for 90 *** with the original filter material,the superhydrophilic/underwater oleophobic serpentine filter material showed a better anti-fouling ability and resistance to *** filtration of crude oil emulsion and oil slick sewage showed a better backwashing *** 35 cycles of continuous filtration of suspended solids in wastewater,the backwashing rate reached 78.4%.The results provided an effective method for the filtration of oily wastewater in the oilfield.

The cationic charged water-soluble polyfluorenes containing 2,1,3-benzothiadiazole (BT) units (P1-3) have been synthesized and characterized. These polymers demonstrate intramolecular energy transfer from the fluorene units to the BT sites when oppositely charged hyaluronan is added due to the formation of electrostatic complexes, followed by a shift in emission color from blue to green or brown. Upon adding hyaluronidase, the hyaluronan is cleaved into fragments. The relatively weak electrostatic interactions of hyaluronan fragments with polyfluorenes keep their main chains separated and energy transfer from the fluorene units to the BT sites is inefficient, and the polyfluorenes recover their blue emissions. The complexes of conjugated polymers/hyaluronan can be utilized as probes for sensitive and facile fluorescence assays for hyaluronidase. The new assay method interfaces with the aggregation and light harvesting properties of conjugated polymers.

The films of two x-shape oligo（thiophene）s, 3, 4-dibithienyl-2, 5-dithienylthiophene （7T） and 2, 5-dibithienyl-3, 4- ditrithienylthiophene （11T）, which are prepared by vacuum evaporation, have been investigated as novel electron donor layers in two-layer photovoltaic cells. UV-Vis absorptions show red-shifted and broadened absorptions of the vacuumevaporated films as compared with those of the corresponding solutions and spin-coating films, which is beneficial for photovoltaic properties. X-ray diffraction （XRD） and differential scanning calorimetry （DSC） measurements show that the vacuum-evaporated films are almost amorphous. Two-layer photovoltaic cells have been realized by the thermal evaporation of 7T and llT as donors and N, N′-bis（1-ethylpropyl）-3, 4：9,10-perylene bis（tetracarboxyl diimide）（EP- PTC） as an acceptor. An energy conversion efficiency （ECE） of 0.18% of the cell based on 7T with an irradiation of white light at 100 mw/cm^2 has been demonstrated by the measurements of current （I）- voltage （V） curves of the cells to be higher than the ECE of the reference system based on donor dihexylterthienyl （H3T） that is linear and without α, β linkage.

Two dysprosium(Ⅲ) complexes derived from 2,2'-bipyridine-6,6'-dicarboxylic acid(H_2bpdc),[Dy(bpdc)(Hbpdc)]-3H_2O(1) and[Dy_2(bpdc)_3(H_2O)_3]·2.125H_2O(2),were isolated from the same hydrothermal reaction container as different ***1 is a mononuclear complex with a DyN_4O_4 coordination polyhedron;whereas compound 2 is a dinuclear complex with two types of eight coordinated dy sprosium(Ⅲ) ions,showing DyN_4O_4 and DyN_2O_6 coordination polyhedra,***,a new type of(H_2O)_6 supramolecular aggregate exists in the crystal structure of *** investigations revealed that 1 is a field-induced single-ion magnet with an effective energy barrier of 45.6 K,exhibiting two-step magnetic relaxation;while an intramolecular ferromagnetic interaction exists in 2,which is a field-induced single-molecule magnet,displaying two-step magnetic relaxation too,with effective energy barriers of 53.4 and 92.1 K,respectively.
