AIM:To determine whether the levator palpebrae superioris(LPS)/superior rectus(SR)muscle complex,can influence the position of the upper lid and fornix in acquired anophthalmic ***:This comparative non-randomized and non-interventional study included retrospective data of 21 patients with unilateral acquired anophthalmic sockets repaired with spheric ***-resolution computed tomography(CT)measurements of the LPM/SR muscle complex and clinical topographic position of the upper lid,superior and inferior fornix depth in primary gaze position were *** data were presented as frequency and percentage proportions and quantitative variables comparing the socket measurements with the normal contralateral orbit was statistically analyzed using non-parametric tests considering P0.05,all comparisons).The superior fornix depth was similar in the anophthalmic socket and the contralateral normal orbit(P=0.192)as well the inferior fornix depth(P=0.351).CONCLUSION:Acquired anophthalmic sockets repaired with spheric implants have shorter LPS,thicker SR,and more lagophthalmos than normal *** relationship of the LPS and SR with other orbital structures,associated with passive or active forces acting in the final position of the lids and external ocular prosthesis should be further investigated.

Effectiveness and safety of electroacupuncture analgesia in controlling intraoperative pain and hemodynamics during total thyroidectomy:A randomized controlled trial

Objective:To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of electroacupuncture in conjunction with additional medications in providing analgesia and stabilizing hemodynamic parameters during total ***:This randomized controlled trial included 100 patients who underwent a total thyroidectomy between October 2022 and October 2023 at the Vietnam National hospital of *** patients were randomized into two *** electroacupuncture analgesia(EA)group received EA stimulation at five acupuncture points:Hegu(LI 4),Neiguan(PC 6),Shuitu(ST 10),Quepen(ST 12),and Yifeng(SJ 17),while the control group received a bilateral superficial cervical plexus *** outcomes included the level of analgesia and perioperative vital signs in both ***,pain thresholds and serum b-endorphin levels were measured before and after electroacupuncture in the EA ***:Complete analgesia(Level A)was attained in 86%and 76%of the patients in the EA and control groups,respectively,with no significant difference between the two groups(P¼1.00).In the EA group,the mean pain threshold after receiving EA doubled(648.7(77.4)g/s vs.305.3(45.3)g/s,P<.001),and the mean serum b-endorphin level increased by approximately 13.5 pg/mL(P<.001).All patients remained hemodynamically stable throughout the ***:EA,in conjunction with additional medications that stimulate five acupuncture points,LI 4,PC 6,ST 10,ST 12,and SJ 17,was well tolerated and effectively maintained a suitable level of analgesia and hemodynamic stability during total thyroidectomy.

Comparison of Cognitive Registration Transrectal Ultrasound-Guided Targeted Biopsy of Prostate to Systematic 12-Core Biopsy: A Retrospective, Multicentre Study

Introduction: Prostate cancer (PCa) is the third most prevalent cancer among Malaysian males, often diagnosed at advanced stages, leading to suboptimal outcomes. While transrectal ultrasound-guided systematic biopsy (TRUS-SB) is the primary diagnostic method, prebiopsy multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) is gaining popularity in identifying suspicious lesions. This study addresses the lack of comprehensive investigations into the efficacy of cognitive registration TRUS targeted biopsy (COG-TB) compared to conventional TRUS-SB, considering the resource limitations of the Malaysian healthcare system. Materials and Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted in two Malaysian healthcare facilities. 116 adult patients with a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level of more than 4 ng/mL who underwent both COG-TB and TRUS-SB between October 2020 and March 2022 were included. Primary outcomes were cancer detection rate and histopathological outcomes, including Gleason score. Results: COG-TB showed a higher overall cancer detection rate (50%) compared to TRUS-SB (44%). Clinically significant cancer detection rates were similar between COG-TB and TRUS-SB (37.1%). Further analysis revealed that both COG-TB and TRUS-SB detected clinically significant cancer in 30.2% of patients, did not detect it in 56.0%, and had conflicting findings in 16 patients (p Conclusion: COG-TB and TRUS-SB have comparable detection rates for clinically significant prostate cancer, with COG-TB showing a higher tendency to detect insignificant prostate cancer. Further studies comparing these methods are warranted.

Central nervous injury risk factors after endovascular repair of a thoracic aortic aneurysm with type B aortic dissection
