Introduction: Overweight and obesity is major health challenge worldwide. Purpose: The purpose of the study was to estimate the prevalence of overweight and obesity and assess knowledge on the health risks associated with obesity among female adolescents in the jordanian capital Amman. Method: A cross-sectional survey of 782 female adolescents was conducted using random sampling technique. Height and weight were measured and body mass index for age was used to determine overweight and obesity depending on International Obesity Task Force standers. Obesity risk knowledge-10 scale was used to assess knowledge level among female adolescents. Results: The prevalence of overweight and obesity among female adolescents were 34.9% and 12.5% respectively. Knowledge about health risk associated with obesity among female adolescents was low. Ninety five percent of participant had low to moderate knowledge about health risk associated with obesity. Conclusions: Prevalence of overweight and obesity among jordanian female adolescents was high. Overweight and obesity is a serious public health problem among female adolescents in jordan.

AIM:To share the results of a national screening program for amblyopia in school children in the north of ***:This is a prospective national screening study for *** program rolls first and second-grade children(6 to 7 years old) in the north of *** eye examination included:best-corrected visual acuity,cover-uncover test,and cycloplegic *** visual acuity was tested using an ETDRS visual acuity chart without ***,children were tested with full cycloplegic refraction when the test criteria were *** amblyopia was defined as a best-corrected visual acuity difference of 2 or more *** comparison,bilateral amblyopia was defined as a best-corrected visual acuity of 20/40 or worse in the best ***:The prevalence of amblyopia for the total sample tested(n=17 203) was 2.78%(n=479).The most common cause of amblyopia was hypermetropia(64.45%),followed by previous ocular surgeries(15.1%),myopia(10.43%),strabismus(9.39%),and congenital cataract(0.63%).CONCLUSION:This is the first and only study,identifing modifiable risk factors in jordanian children with *** their first couple of years of elementary education,many jordanian children are affected by amblyopia and pass unnoticed.A more governmental effort is needed into screening programs to improve vision in the jordanian population.

The purpose of this study is to explore the psychosocial and physical health impact of child labor and in jordan and compare between working and nonworking children at schools and industrial sites. Methods: A sample of 4008 children at schools and industrial sites answered the self-report questionnaires that include physical and psychosocial health concerns, health screening survey, anger expression and child abuse survey. The results showed that both nonschool and school working children have various physical and psychosocial health problems. Physical complaints included common cold, flu, hearing and vision problems. Psychosocial ones included feeling lonely, feeling depressed, problems at home and work, and high level of anger expression, smoking cigarettes and using drugs. The study’s implications for health, education, counseling, and research interventions were discussed.

Objective To determine the prevalence of lower urinary tract symptoms(LUTS)and their severity population in *** This cross-sectional survey was conducted using a paper-based survey between August and September in *** study was carried out in the health care centers or hospitals in three different regions of jordan:North(Irbid and Jarash),Middle(Amman,Madaba,Salt,and Zarqa),and South(Karak and Aqaba).Results To estimate the prevalence of LUTS,two definitions were used,including the first definition(presence of any LUTS regardless of the degree of severity)and the second definition(presence of any LUTS that occurs half the time or more).According to the first definition,1038(89.9%)reported LUTS(male:47.3%,female:52.7%),while 763(66.1%)reported LUTS according to the second definition(male:45.6%,female:54.4%).According to the International Prostate Symptom Score characterization,73.9%had nocturia and 62.9%reported daytime increased *** LUTS are highly prevalent among the jordanian population,and more than half of them have nocturia or daytime increased frequency as most frequently reported symptoms.

Groundwater vulnerability is an overlay method that is used to determine the ability of pollutants to penetrate to the target aquifer and to harm it. This method helps decision makers by shedding light on pollution areas expected to pollute groundwater aquifers as caused by human activities on the ground surface. In jordan, groundwater is the main water resource the country uses to match its demand. The groundwater basins in jordan are divided into 12 major basins. Some basins are rechargeable and other basins are fossil. Many basins are over exploited. Amman Zarqa basin is a clear example for this case. Others are saline just like Azraq basin and the rest is expected to be affected by the growing demand for agricultural, municipal and industrial activities. In this study, a groundwater vulnerability map was produced for jordan using DRASTIC index to study the vulnerability of the shallow aquifers throughout the country. The map shows different vulnerability classes ranging from low to very high reflecting the environmental, hydrological and hydrogeological settings of the groundwater and its recharge ability. The resulted map shows wide variation in groundwater vulnerability in different sites in jordan. Areas with higher vulnerability are those with friable aquifer materials and shallow groundwater depths. Medium and low vulnerability classes are exist too because of the variations of the environmental settings within the targeted areas.

Objective:To explore the seroprevalence,spatial distribution and risk factors for Leishmania seropositivity in ***:Blood samples from 872 apparently healthy participants were randomly selected from 11 governorates in jordan and tested for anti-Leishmania K39 *** factors(animal ownership and agriculture practices)and demographic data were also collected using pre-tested and validated ***:Overall,2.52% of participants were seropositive for Leishmania *** living in the jordan Valley plateau had significantly greater odds(adjusted odds ratio= 3.70,95% CI 1.37-9.93)of seropositivity than those living in the Highlands after adjustment for ***:This study supports the intermittent reports of cutaneous leishmaniasis outbreaks in the jordan *** control measures in the jordan Valley should be considered,including insecticide treated bed nets,sugar baits and using flowering plants to attract and trap Phlebotomus papatasi sand *** surveillance in the jordan Valley is also recommended in light of this and other reports.

This study aims to evaluate the role of jordanian veterinarians in terms of their knowledge,attitudes and common practices in combating antimicrobial resistance(AMR)and summarize the registered veterinary drugs between *** study data were collected using a standardized questionnaire that focused on the knowledge,attitudes,and practices of jordanian *** findings were analyzed descriptively;84%of the participants agreed with the statement on the definition of *** majority(95.65%)of participants agreed that AMR is a challenge for the veterinary sector in jordan and that it should be prioritized over other zoonotic *** 69%of the participants believed that the misuse and overuse of antimicrobials by unqualified,fraudulent,or unauthorized practitioners is the primary reason for the rise of cases associated with AMR and the challenges that accompany *** most common practice among the respondents in this study was to recommend clients(e.g.,farmers and owners)to practice good animal husbandry(80.00%).The study also revealed that there was a significant difference(p=O.015)between attendance at AMR training sessions and the professional sector(private,public,and academic)of the *** study underscores the importance of implementing a continuous education program on AMR so as to enhance the all-round knowledge of veterinarians and improve their advisory *** addition,laws should be enacted to ensure that veterinarians prescribe the correct antimicrobials and to improve surveillance systems for monitoring the use of antimicrobials in veterinary medicine.

This research investigated the place attachment of a heritage place, namely, the Roman amphitheater, by using a valid model, the Kyle, Graefe, and Manning （2005） model. This model presents three factors to reach place attachment： place identification, place dependence, and social bonding. Although the validity of the used model was proved, statistical tests were used to verify the validity of the collected data because the model was used on a heritage site. In accordance with the mentioned model, the sample was interviewed using the model questionnaire to evaluate people＇s attachment to the heritage place during rush hours. Along with other statistical tests, the exploratory factor analysis of the sample elaborated that the Kyte, Graefe, and Manning model is not completely valid for this study, because the results added a new effective factor, namely, spiritual value. The place attachment estimation was then examined using the new model. The nature of the place was found to affect the model used to evaluate its place attachment.

In this study, we survey the plant diversity of Wadi Hassan, which is located in the Northeastern Badia of jordan, about 120 km east of Amman. All plant species were collected and herbarium specimens have been prepared, identified and deposited at the University of jordan herbarium(Department of Biology,Faculty of Science). The final plant checklist includes 206 species belonging to 138 genera and 35 *** most diverse families are Compositae(20.5%), Cruciferae(10.2%), Leguminosae(8.3%) and Boraginaceae(6.8%), followed by Caryophyllaceae and Gramineae(5.4%). These six families represent 60% of the total families recognized in the study area, while nine families each are represented by only one species. Most plants recorded are annual plants(61%), some plants are hemicryptophtes(18%) and camaephytes(15%), while the least frequent life form class was the phanerophyte shrub and perennial(0.5%). Chorological characteristics of the recorded flora show that Saharo-Arabian Region elements, IranoTuranian elements and Mediterranean elements constitute(58%) of the total flora. This research shows that even small portion of the jordan Badia such as the Wadi Hassan plant community has high species diversity. Thus, we recommended further of the unexplored Wadi plants communities of the jordan Badia.
