Qidong hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection cohort (QBC) is a prospective community-based study designed to investigate causative factors of primary liver cancer (PLC) in Qidong, China, where both PLC and HBV infection are highly endemic. Residents aged 20-65 years, living in seven townships of Qidong, were surveyed using hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) serum test and invited to participate in QBC from June 1991 to December 1991. A total of 852 and 786 participants were enrolled in HBsAg-positive and HBsAg-negative sub-cohorts in May 1992, respectively. All participants were actively followed up in person, received HBsAg, alanine aminotransferase, alpha-fetoprotein tests and upper abdominal ultrasonic examination, and donated blood and urine samples once or twice a year. The total response rate was 99.6%, and the number of incident PLC was 201 till the end of February 2017. The ratio of incidence rates was 12.32 [95% confidence interval (CI): 7.16-21.21, P < 0.0001] in HBsAg-positive arm compared with HBsAg-negative arm. The relative risk of PLC was 13.25 (95%CI: 6.67-26.33, P < 0.0001) and 28.05 (95% CI: 13.87-56.73, P < 0.0001) in the HBsAg+/HBeAg-group and the HBsAg+/HBeAg+ group, respectively, as compared to the HBsAg-/HBeAg- group. A series of novel PLC-related mutations including A2159G, A2189C and G2203W at the C gene, A799G, A987G and T1055A at the P gene of HBV genome were identified by using samples from the cohort. The mutation in HBV basal core promoter region of HBV genome has an accumulative effect on the occurrence of PLC. In addition, the tripartite relationship of aflatoxin exposure, P53 mutation and PLC was also investigated. QBC will be used to develop dynamic prediction model for PLC risk by using its long-term follow-up information and serial blood samples. This model is expected to improve the efciency of PLC screening in HBV infection individuals.

Perceived Barriers to Asthma Therapy in Ethno-Cultural Communities: The Role of Culture, Beliefs and Social Support

Background : Adherence to therapy is integral to successfully managing asthma, which requires comprehension of what, when, and how to use medication and diligence in following management plan. Asthma patients from ethnic minority groups have more morbidity and reported filling their prescriptions less often. Limited information is available in Canadian literature on ethnic differences in their perceptions of asthma management. We aimed to document patient perceived adherence to asthma therapy among targeted ethno-cultural groups. Methods : We evaluated perceived barriers to therapy adherence, including: cultural beliefs and practices, patient/care-provider communication, self-management knowledge, and medication costs. We conducted a cross sectional study and interviewed 85 Chinese or Punjabispeaking adult asthma patients. Results : Lack of sufficient instructions from physicians, language/communication barriers, lack of skills on how to use inhalers, and high medication costs and medication side effects were most reported barriers to proper self-management practices. Most participants lived with others in the same household and reported high social support from home caregivers. The influence of family on self-management practices was obvious. Conclusion: Better understanding of patient needs, provision of culturally and linguistically appropriate education, and inclusion of home caregivers into the management practices are necessary to improve asthma outcomes in Chinese and Punjabi communities.

The decay ψ（2S）→Ω-Ω＋ is analyzed using 14×106 ψ（2S） events recorded by the Beijing Spectrometer Ⅱ （BESⅡ） at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider （BEPC）. Based upon events with no missing charged tracks and a satisfactory four-constraint kinematic t, we determine the upper limit for the branching fraction of ψ（2S）→Ω-Ω＋ to be 1.5×104 at a 90% confidence level. By including events with one missing charged track, we are able to report the first evidence of an Ω＋ signal with a statistical signi cance of 3.1｜σ. The branching fraction of ψ（2S）Ω＋ is determined to be （4.80±1.56（stat）±1.30（sys））105.

[1]Ionospheric disturbances in the Southeast Asian region during the super magnetic storm of 20-22 November 2003 were investigated through an ionosonde chain and a GPS network assisted by the space-borne *** early stage of the storm in the postsunset sector,large enhancements in the critical frequency of F layer and total electron content were observed at northern crest region of the equatorial ionization anomaly(EIA), which might be produced by both the storm meridional wind superimposed with traveling atmospheric disturbances and prompt penetration electric field(PPE).During the main phase of the storm when interplanetary magnetic field started a 12-h southward turning, equatorial ionosphere was elevated to a very high level which should be most probably caused by a long-duration PPE ***,at mid-low latitudes,ionosphere witnessed an initial simultaneous decrease then followed by drastic increases,which is very different from the past observations in this region(Reddy and Nishida,1992). Combined analysis of the data from the ionosonde and other space-based measurement shows that for the present case the penetration efficiency of the interplanetary electric field(IEF) to the equatorial ionosphere was larger at night than in the daytime,which agrees with the results of Fejer et al.(2007) showing the ratios of PPE and IEF changes were highly variable with the local *** the recovery phase,EIA was severely inhibited owing to a wind convergence and possibly because of the westward disturbance dynamo electric field.

Background:As type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)biomarkers,branched-chain amino acids(BCAAs:valine,leucine and isoleucine)and aromatic amino acids(AAAs:phenylalanine,tryptophan and tyrosine)may be correlated with the occurrence and development of ***,there is still no consensus on the disperse and isolated biomarkers of ***:To explore the correlation between amino acids and T2DM based on integrated biomarker approach ***:PubMed,Web of Science and CNKI were selected to search the literature published until August 31,*** included studies described the association between BCAAs,AAAs and *** effect model and fixed effect model were adopted in pooled analysis to determine mean difference and 95 percent confidence interval of *** biomarker was constructed in form of concentration change ratios or risk ratio(RR),relative risk(HR)and odds ratio(OR)of BCAAs and AAAs to reflect the integrated change information of amino ***:The selected 20 studies contained 14942 healthy individuals and 3615 T2DM *** levels of BCAAs,phenylalanine and tyrosine both in plasma and serum samples were increased among all T2DM patients compared with those of the healthy control subjects(P<0.00001).However,the mean difference of tryptophan concentration was not statistically significant(P=0.60).The concentration change ratios or HR/RR/OR of BCAAs and AAAs were connected to form integrated ***:The integrated biomarker including BCAAs and AAAs could reflect the basic characteristics of T2DM,which has the potential clinical value on comprehensive diagnosis of T2DM.

This manuscript is a narrative review on experience in the healthcare public-private partnerships(PPP)field project in *** PPP model allows healthcare officials to share the risk of building new facilities with the private *** objective of this study is to evaluate and to review the PPP of healthcare sector in China,and to investigate the critical success factors and best practice of *** adapted the PPP evaluation framework of the World Bank Independent Evaluation Group as our conceptual framework to summarize the *** current study systematically reviewed the evolution and current status of public and private hospitals development in China,and to investigate factors related to the successful and less successful deployment and performance of PPP in the healthcare sector of China,and to develop best practice models of PPP among hospitals of *** found that the PPP organizations providing finance and political risk coverage,thus enabling specific PPP transactions to reach financial closure-potentially setting demonstration *** PPPs may then contribute to improving access to infrastructure and social services,which drives economic growth and other optimal outcomes.

通过对蛤蚧与中国石龙子顶盖细胞形态及细胞在顶盖不同层次间的比较,研究两种不同习性动物视觉结构之间的差异。用尼氏(Nissl)染色法进行顶盖组织染色,辣根过氧化物酶(horseradish peroxidase,HRP)进行顶盖注射,测量和记录顶盖细胞的面积、形态及树突走向并作统计分析。结果显示两种动物顶盖层次间的投射方式及细胞在各层次的比较存在相似之处,而中国石龙子顶盖C层细胞面积显著大于蛤蚧,其S层细胞树突分枝比蛤蚧的要广泛,而且这两种动物不同大小和不同形态顶盖细胞所占比例在顶盖内部三层间也存在差别。这些结果表明夜行性蛤蚧和昼行性中国石龙子的视觉系统中,其顶盖结构存在差异。

Drug-resistant tuberculosis （TB） poses a significant challenge to the successful treatment and control of TB worldwide. Resistance to anti-TB drugs has existed since the beginning of the chemotherapy era. New insights into the resistant mechanisms of anti-TB drugs have been provided. Better understanding of drug resistance mechanisms helps in the development of new tools for the rapid diagnosis of drug- resistant TB. There is also a pressing need in the development of new drugs with novel targets to improve the current treatment of TB and to prevent the emergence of drug resistance in Mycobacterium tuber- culosis. This review summarizes the anti-TB drug resistance mechanisms, furnishes some possible novel drug targets in the development of new agents for TB therapy and discusses the usefulness using known targets to develop new anti-TB drugs. Whole genome sequencing is currently an advanced technology to uncover drug resistance mechanisms in M. tuberculosis. However, further research is required to unravel the significance of some newly discovered gene mutations in their contribution to drug resistance.
