During seco.dary refining of molten steel, reaction of steel-slag has great influence on the quality of steel. Taking high aluminium steel ([Al]≥0.8%) for instance, reaction co.trol of 4[Al]+3(SiO2) = 2(Al2O3)+3[Si] was discussed by both thermodynamics calculation and industrial experiments. The results show that co.tent of silico. increased sharply when co.tent of SiO2 in slag exceeded 10%. In order to prevent the increment of silico. co.tent and reoxidation for high aluminium steel, reasonable co.ponent range of LF refining slag is: %CaO/%Al2O3=1.6-1.9, %SiO2 co.tent and T[O] about 0.0025% and 11×10-6,respectively, which can meet the requirements of seco.dary refining and obtain good castability of steel in co.tinuous casting process.

In view of process co.ditions of Vanadium Reco.ery and steelmaking Plant, PanGang group Panzhihua steel and Vanadium co.,ltd., and on the basis of making choice of a reasonable deoxidization process, some measures have been taken to the development of automobile gear steel (20CrMoH) such as the pre-refining technology during co.verter tapping, "white slag" refining in LF, RH Vacuum treatment, and even protective casting technology. Also different and suitable models of argon blowing from bottom of ladle were adopted in the platform after co.verter, LF refining and calcium treatment. Test results show that the high cleanness 20CrMoH gear steel slab with T[O] ≤15×10-6(The average T[O] is 11.8×10-6) co.ld be obtained through all these measures.

The kinetics of voluminal reduction of chromium ore fines co.taining co.l (co.CC) by microwave heating was studied. When the molar ratio of carbon to oxygen was 0.84 and that of CaO to SiO2 was 0.39 in co.CC, the temperature rising rate of co.CC by microwave heating was 62.5 ℃/min, 68.75 ℃/min, 70. 59 ℃/min, and 72.22 ℃/min at 1 000 ℃, 1 100 ℃, 1 200 ℃, and 1 300 ℃, respectively. The results show that the voluminal re duction of co.CC by microwave heating at solid-solid phase is first order reaction, with the apparent activation energy of 51. 480 kJ/mol. The limiting step of reaction rate for the overall reaction is the mass transfer of co.in the reduced product layer between dielectric particles of chromium ore and co.l.
