Impact of mica on geotechnical behavior of weathered granitic soil using macro and micro investigations

The micaceous weathered granitic soil(WGS)is frequently encountered in civil engineering worldwide,unfortunately little information is available regarding how mica affects the physico-mechanical behaviors of *** study prepares reconstituted WGS with different mica contents by removing natural mica in theWGS,and then mixes it with commercial mica *** geotechnical behavior as well as the microstructures of the mixtures are *** addition of mica enables the physical indices of WGS to be specific combinations of coarser gradation and high permeability but high Atterberg ***,high mica content in WGS was found to be associated with undesirable mechanical properties,including increased compressibility,disintegration,and swelling potential,as well as poor compactability and low effective frictional *** analysis indicates that the influence of mica on the responses of mixtures originates from the intrinsic nature of mica as well as the particle packing being formed *** exists in the mixture as stacks of plates that form a spongy structure with high compressibility and swelling *** among the plates give the soil high water retention and high Atterberg *** pores are also generated by soil particles with bridging packing,which enhances the permeability and water-soil interactions upon *** study provides a microlevel understanding of how mica dominates the behavior of WGS and provides new insights into the effective stabilization and improvement of micaceous soils.

Airblast evolution initiated by Wangjiayan landslides in the M_(s)8.0 Wenchuan earthquake and its destructive capacity analysis

Airblasts,as one common phenomenon accompanied by rapid movements of landslides or rock/snow avalanches,commonly result in catastrophic damages and are attracting more and more scientific *** quantitatively analyze the intensity of airblast initiated by landslides,the Wangjiayan landslide,occurred in the Wenchuan earthquake,is selected here with the landslide propagation and airblast evolution being studied using FLUENT by introducing the Voellmy rheological *** results reveal that:(1)For the Wangjiayan landslide,its whole travelling duration is only 12 s with its maximum velocity reaching 36 m/s at t=10 s;(2)corresponding to the landslide propagation,the maximum velocity,28 m/s,of the airblast initiated by the landslide also appears at t=10 s with its maximum pressure reaching594.8 Pa,which is equivalent to violent storm;(3)under the attack of airblast,the load suffered by buildings in the airblast zone increases to 1300 Pa at t=9.4 s and sharply decreased to-7000 Pa as the rapid decrease of the velocity of the sliding mass at t=10 s,which is seriously unfavorable for buildings and might be the key reason for the destructive collapse of buildings in the airblast zone of the Wangjiayan landslide.

Fabrication of patterned transparent conductive glass via laser metal transfer for efficient electrical heating and antibacteria

Vapor deposition and three-dimensional(3D)printing technology are considered to be conventional methods to achieve patterned metal film preparation through the assistance of masks and high ***,there are still some challenges in fabricating metal films in template-free and normal temperature *** this work,we report a flexible and rapid laser metal transfer(LMT)technique for fabricating the various metal films(Cu,Ni,Sn,Al,Fe,and Ag)with different patterns without templates on arbitrary substrates(glass,polyimide(PI)films,and aluminum nitride(AlN)ceramic).Especially,the obtained transparent conductive glass displays high transmittance(more than 90%)and adjustable resistances(≈5Ω).According to the Joule effect,the interface resistance between Cu particles and copper oxide coating produces the high temperature approximately 280℃ at 2 V in a short time(≈60 s)and remains stable at 120℃ over 12 *** last,the multifunctional glass with Cu patterns also shows excellent bactericidal activity(≈95%).This work demonstrates that laser metal transfer is an exceeding effective means of fabricating the micro/nano structures with potential applications in functional devices.

Influence of Transportation Accessibility on urban-rural Income Disparity and Its Spatial Heterogeneity

Transportation accessibility has been treated as an important means of reducing the urban-rural income ***,only a few studies have examined the effects of different types of transportation accessibility on urban-rural income disparity and their spatial *** on data from 285 prefecture-level(and above)Chinese cities in 2000,2005,2010,2015,and 2020,this study uses spatial econometric models to examine how highway accessibility and railway accessibility influence the urban-rural income disparity and to identify their spatial *** result reveals that highway accessibility and railway accessibility have‘coreperiphery’ring-like circle *** urban-rural income disparity exhibits strong spatial clustering *** highway accessibility and railway accessibility are negatively associated with urban-rural income disparity,and the former having a greater effect ***,there is a substitution effect between highway accessibility and railway accessibility in the whole ***,these associations differ in geographic *** the central region,highway accessibility is more important in reducing the urban-rural income disparity,but its effect is weakened with the increase of railway *** the western region,railway accessibility has a larger effect on narrowing the urban-rural income disparity,and this effect is strengthened by the increase of highway *** conclude that improving transportation accessibility is conducive to reducing the urban-rural income disparity but its effect is spatial *** and railways should be developed in a coordinated manner to promote an integrated transport network system.

Effects of operating conditions on iron(hydr)oxides evolution and ciprofloxacin degradation in potassium ferrate-ozone stepwise oxidation system

In this study,a stepwise oxidation system of potassium ferrate(K_(2)FeO_(4))combined with ozone(O+3)was used to degrade ciprofloxacin(CIP).The effects of pH and pre-oxidation time of K_(2)FeO_(4) on the evolution of K_(2)FeO_(4) reduction products(iron(hydr)oxides)and CIP degradation were *** was found that in addition to its own oxidation capacity,K_(2)FeO_(4) can also influence the treatment effect of CIP by changing the catalyst *** presence of iron(hydr)oxides effectively enhanced the mineralization rate of CIP by catalyzing *** pH value can influence the content and types of the components with catalytic ozonation effect in iron(hydr)*** K_(2)FeO_(4) pre-oxidation stage can produce more iron(hydr)oxides with catalytic components for subsequent ozonation,but the evolution of iron(hydr)oxides components was influenced by O_(3) *** can also avoid the waste of oxidation capacity owing to the oxidation of iron(hydr)oxides by O_(3) and free *** intermediate degradation products were identified by Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry(FT-ICR-MS).Besides,the degradation pathways were *** the degradation products of CIP,the product with broken quinolone ring structure only appeared in the stepwise oxidation system.

Intrinsic valley-polarized quantum anomalous Hall effect in a two-dimensional germanene/MnI_(2) van der Waals heterostructure

Valley-polarized quantum anomalous Hall effect(VQAHE), combined nontrivial band topology with valleytronics,is of importance for both fundamental sciences and emerging applications. However, the experimental realization of this property is challenging. Here, by using first-principles calculations and modal analysis, we predict a mechanism of producing VQAHE in two-dimensional ferromagnetic van der Waals germanene/MnI_(2) heterostructure. This heterostructure exhibits both valley anomalous Hall effect and VQAHE due to the joint effects of magnetic exchange effect and spin–orbital coupling with the aid of anomalous Hall conductance and chiral edge state. Moreover interestingly, through the electrical modulation of ferroelectric polarization state in In_(2)Se_(3), the germanene/Mn I_(2)/In_(2)Se_(3) heterostructure can undergo reversible switching from a semiconductor to a metallic behavior. This work offers a guiding advancement for searching for VQAHE in ferromagnetic van der Waals heterostructures and exploiting energy-efficient devices based on the VQAHE.

With the advances in the field of flexible fibre technology in recent years,a variety of flexible fibres with different preparation processes have emerged[1,2].However,most of the flexible fibres in the past have structural breaks,making them unsuitable for long-term use as wearable fabrics[3,4].Glass semiconductors are widely used in thermally stretched fibres due to their advantages such as controllable fluidity,but they suffer from electronic defects compared with crystalline semi conductors in electronic semiconductors such as silicon(Si)and germanium(Ge)[5].Obviously,the semiconductor component in flexible optic fibres is a key component in regulating their mechanical and electrical properties[6].

Quantitative analysis of laser-generated ultrasonic wave characteristics and their correlation with grain size in polycrystalline materials

Quantitative relationship between nanosecond pulsed laser parameters and the characteristics of laser-generated ultrasonic waves in polycrystalline materials was *** high energy of the pulsed laser with a large irradiation spot simultaneously generated ultrasonic longitudinal and shear waves at the epicenter under the slight ablation *** optimized denoising technique based on wavelet thresholding and variational mode decomposition was applied to reduce noise in shear waves with a low signal-to-noise *** approach for characterizing grain size was proposed using spectral central frequency ratio(SCFR)based on time-frequency *** results demonstrate that the generation regime of ultrasonic waves is not solely determined by the laser power density;even at high power densities,a high energy with a large spot can generate an ultrasonic waveform dominated by the thermoelastic *** is ascribed to the intensification of the thermoelastic effect with the proportional increase in laser irradiation spot area for a given laser power ***,both longitudinal and shear wave SCFRs are linearly related to grain size in polycrystalline materials;however,the shear wave SCFR is more sensitive to finer-grained *** study holds great significance for evaluating metal material properties using laser ultrasound.

A CAD-BEM geometry transformation method for face-based primary geometric input based on closed contour recognition

Performance analysis during the early design stage can significantly reduce building energy ***,it is difficult to transform computer-aided design(CAD)models into building energy models(BEM)to optimize building *** model structures for CAD and BEM are *** this study,geometry transformation methods was implemented in BES tools for the early design stage,including auto space generation(ASG)method based on closed contour recognition(CCR)and space boundary topology calculation *** program is developed based on modeling tools SketchUp to support the CAD format(like*.stl,*.dwg,*.ifc,etc.).It transforms face-based geometric information into a zone-based tree structure model that meets the geometric requirements of a single-zone BES combined with the other thermal parameter inputs of the *** addition,this study provided a space topology calculation method based on a single-zone BEM *** program was developed based on the SketchUp modeling tool to support additional CAD formats(such as*.stl,*.dwg,*.ifc),which can then be imported and transformed into*.*** to current methods mostly focused on BIM-BEM transformation,this method can ensure more modeling *** method was integrated into a performance analysis tool termed MOOSAS and compared with the current version of the transformation *** were tested on a dataset comprising 36 conceptual models without partitions and six real cases with detailed *** ensures a transformation rate of two times in any bad model condition and costs only 1/5 of the time required to calculate each room compared to the previous version.
