The relationships between the surface quality of a single crystal copper ingot and the process parameters of heated mould continuous casting method were studied experimentally using our own design of horizontal heated mould continuous casting apparatus, and the mechanism by which process parameters affect the surface quality of a single crystal copper ingot is analyzed in the present paper. The results show that the process parameters affect the surface quality of a pure copper ingot by affecting the position of the liquid-solid interface in the mould. The position of the liquid-solid interface in the mould must be controlled carefully within an appropriate range, which is determined through a series of experiments, in order to gain a single crystal copper ingot with good surface quality.

In order to check the general existence of broadening of slab and the reasons of formation,the broadening of slab was investigated on the basis of several industrial manufactures of continuous *** results show that slab broadening commonly exists in the process of continuous *** causes of broadening were ruled out of the consideration of the change of mold size or the change of technical *** results reveal that the broadening of slab probably results from the static pressure of molten steel and the force from driving *** the same time,online observations of three grades of steel in the process of continuous casting reveal that the ratio of ultimate broadening of slab ranges from 1.27% to 3.00%,and even arrives at 4.4%.

Histone deacetylases(HDACs)are epigenetic regulators that play an important role in determining cell fate and maintaining cellular ***,whether and how HDACs regulate iron metabolism and ferroptosis(an iron-dependent form of cell death)remain ***,the putative role of hepatic HDACs in regulating iron metabolism and ferroptosis was investigated using genetic mouse *** lacking Hdac3 expression in the liver(Hdac3-LKO mice)have significantly reduced hepatic Hamp mRNA(encoding the peptide hormone hepcidin)and altered iron *** profiling of Hdac3-LKO mice suggests that the Hippo signaling pathway may be downstream of ***,using a Hippo pathway inhibitor and overexpressing the transcriptional regulator Yap(Yes-associated protein)significantly reduced Hamp mRNA *** a promoter reporter assay,we then identified 2 Yap-binding repressor sites within the human HAMP promoter *** also found that inhibiting Hdac3 led to increased translocation of Yap to the nucleus,suggesting activation of ***,knock-in mice expressing a constitutively active form of Yap(Yap K342M)phenocopied the altered hepcidin levels observed in Hdac3-LKO ***,we show that iron-overload-induced ferroptosis underlies the liver injury that develops in Hdac3-LKO mice,and knocking down Yap expression in Hdac3-LKO mice reduces both iron-overload-and ferroptosis-induced liver *** results provide compelling evidence supporting the notion that HDAC3 regulates iron homeostasis via the Hippo/Yap pathway and may serve as a target for reducing ferroptosis in iron-overload-related diseases.

The mechanism of broadening of slab in continuous casting was studied by numerical simulations and experimental measurements in factories. The mechanism is derived by gradual exclusion of various factors related to the broadening of slab. It is concluded that the slab exposes to no constraint at the direction of narrow face. Because of the static pressure of molten steel, the slab deforms creepily in the direction that consequently results in the broadening of slab. The broadening of slab increases with casting speed and static pressure of molten steel. The decrease of secondary cooling intensity and strength of steel at high temperature also contribute to the broadening of slab. The micro-alloying plays an important role in improving the strength of steel and in reducing the broadening of slab.

Current energy conservation and emissions reduction strategies in iron and steel industry were reviewed. Since foundry industry is one of the major source of energy consumption and pollution emission (especially co 2 ), issues concerning energy-saving and emission-reduction have been raised by governments and the industry. Specialists from around the world carried out multidimensional analyses and evaluation on the potentials in energy conservation and emissions reduction in iron and steel industry, and proposed various kinds of analyzing models. The primary measures mainly focus on the targeted policies formulation and also on clean and highefficient technologies development. The differences and similarities in energy conservation and emission reduction in foundry industry between China and other countries were discussed, while, the future development trend was also pointed out.

Wear property of material plays a key role in the service time of workpiece. A major objective in the development of new wheel materials is to improve the wear performance. The wear property of B and B＋ grade cast steel materials was reported. The results showed that B＋ grade cast steel material exhibited better wear property than the B grade material. Carbon content related to the hardness match was the principal factor affecting the wear properties.

Speed increase and heavy haul of the railway freight car are the effective measures to raise the transport ability of railway, and they have been the new trend for railway freight car development. The increase of speed and axle load will lead to the increase of wheel rail contact stress, which will make a great change of stress distribution in the whole wheel rim. Goodier equation was employed to analyze the stress state around inclusion and cavity. In the operation of wheel-rail contact stress, stress concentration occurred in the pole of Al2O3 spherical inclusion, while it appeared on the equator of cavity. The critical inclusion sizes of 250 kN axle load freight car wheel at different velocities, a certain distance away from the tread, were calculated by Murakami equation. comparing the inclusion in cast steel wheel with that in rolled steel wheel, it is found that the inclusion in cast steel wheel has much more excellent crack resistance than that in rolled steel wheel. In the meantime, in order to reduce the probability of rim crack, some suggestions were put forward.

The fracture of a camshaft made of chilled cast iron, installed in a home-made Fukang car, happened only after running over a distance of 6,200 km. The fractured camshaft was received to conduct a series of failure analyses using visual inspection, SEM observation of fracture section, microstructure analysis, chemical composition analysis and hardness examination and so on, while those of CKD camshaft made by Citroen company in France was also simultaneously analyzed to compare the difference between them. The results showed that the fracture of the camshaft mainly results from white section in macrostructure and Ledeburite in microstructure; the crack in the fractured camshaft should be recognized to initiate at the boundary of coarser needle-like carbide and matrix, and then propagate through the transverse section. At the same tide, the casting defects such as dendritic shrinkage, accumulated inclusion and initiated crack and abnormal external force might stimulate the fracture of camshaft as well. Based on failure analysis, some measures have been employed, and as a result, the fracture of home-made camshafts has been effectively prevented.

We report a new diamond synthesis process in which cubic boron nitride single crystals are used as seeds, FesoNi20 alloy powder is used as catalyst/solvent and natural flake-like graphite is used as the carbon source. The samples are investigated using laser Raman spectra and x-ray diffraction （XRD）. Morphology of the sample is observed by a scanning electron microscope （SEM）. Based on the measurement results, we conclude that diamond single crystals have grown on the cBN crystal seeds under the conditions of high temperature 1230℃ and high pressure 4.8 GPa. This work provides an original method for synthesis of high quality hereto-semiconductor with cBN and diamond single crystals, and paves the way for future development.

Application of Numerical Simulation Technique to Casting Process of Valve Block

The numerical simulation technique was applied to the casting process of a valve-type part. The mold-filling and solidification stages of the casting were numerically analyzed. The filling behavior, solidification sequence, and thermal stress distribution were reproduced and the possible defects, such as cold shut and shrinkage, were predicted. Based on the simulation result, the double-gating system was replaced by a single-gating system. Meanwhile, the chills were used to regulate the solidification sequence of casting. To eliminate the cracks in the casting, the sand core was converted into a canulate one. By modifying the original process, the defects were eliminated and the casting with good quality was obtained.
