On May 9,2022,3 local residents in Guang’an City,Sichuan province,tested positive for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)and were diagnosed as asymptomatic infections with coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)in a local outbreak,and as of May 14,a total of 20 confirmed cases and 398 asymptomatic infections were *** genome sequencing was performed directly on the nasal and throat swab specimens from the initial three asymptomatic infected individuals using the Illumina MiSeq platform(Illumina,San Diego,CA,USA).The complete genome sequences of 3 SARSCoV-2 strains,named SC1215,SC1216,and SC1217,were *** sequence of SC1217 has been deposited in the GISAID database(under the accession number EPI_ISL_12725020).

Molecular Characterization of Full-length Genome of Japanese Encephalitis Virus Genotype V Isolated from Tibet, China

Objective To determine the molecular characterization of full-length genome of Japanese encephalitis virus （JEV） genotype V. Methods The full-length nucleotide sequences of JEV strains isolated from different locations and sources were used in sequence and phylogenetic analysis. Results The full-length genome of genotypes V JEV, XZ0934, and Muar strain were composed of 10 983 and 10 988 nucleotides respectively and shared a lower level of identity with JEV genotypes I-IV, ranging from 78.4% （G I, KV1899） to 79.7% （G III, JaGAr01）, for the nucleotide sequences, and from 90.0%（G I, KV1899） to 91.8%（G III, JaGAr01） for the amino acid sequences. The open reading frame （ORF） of JEV genotype V spanned nucleotides 96 to 10 397 and encoded 3 433 amino acids. Interestingly, a comparison with JEV genotype I-IV revealed that 3 nucleotides （encoded with a serine residue） were inserted in the NS4A gene of JEV genotype V, and the insertion of nucleotides was also found in downstream of the ORF stop codon in 3’-untranslated region. Moreover, numerous amino acid mutations were observed in 3 functional domains of the E gene of JEV genotype V. Conclusion The molecular characterization of JEV genotype V is significantly different from that of the known genotypes I-IV. The mutations located in the coding region and the non-coding region may be molecular markers of JEV genotype V and warrant further studies to determine their effects on biology and immunogenicity of genotype V strains.

The Emergence, Epidemiology, and Etiology of Haff disease

Haff disease is a type of human rhabdomyolysis characterized by the sudden onset of unexplained muscular rigidity and an elevated serum creatine kinase level within 24 h after consuming cooked aquatic products. Here, we reviewed a previous study on Haff disease and summarized the clinical manifestations,epidemiological characteristics, and etiological data to confirm the incidence and global epidemiology of the disease and identify the most common seafood vectors. Future directions for Haff disease study will include further prospective etiological studies and the development of prevention and control strategies.

In 2016, there were 17.8 million (15.4-20.3 million) women living with HIV/AIDS across the world and the prevalence of reproductive desire among this group was 26%-49%[1]. If pregnant women living with HIV/AIDS are left untreated, the rates of HIV transmission from mother-to-child would range from 14% to 48%, depending on the presence and duration of breastfeeding[2].

Emergency Response for a Laboratory Biosafety Incident

On December 14, 2017, a faculty member of a university in Hunan province reported that an anthrax vaccine strain might have recovered virulence during an undergraduate experiment and potential exposure could not be ruled out for the students involved. Upon receiving the case report, the CDC, health bureaus, and local governments at the county, prefectural, and provincial levels promptly organized experts in different fields (including epidemiologists, biosafety experts, and laboratory testing experts) for case investigation, evaluation, and response. As the investigation results showed, no virulence recovery was identified in the involved anthrax vaccine strain;and no contamination of Bacillus anthracis was detected at the involved areas. Thus, the university returned to normal functioning.

Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids promote liver regeneration after 90% hepatectomy in rats

AIM:To evaluate the effectiveness of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid(ω-3 PUFA) administration on liver regeneration after 90% partial hepatectomy(PH) in ***:ω-3 PUFAs were intravenously injected in the ω-3 PUFA group before PH ***,sparing only the caudate lobe,was performed in both the control and the ω-3 PUFA *** rates,liver weight/body weight ratios,liver weights,HE staining,transmission electron microscope imaging,nuclearassociated antigen Ki-67,enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and signal transduction were evaluated to analyze liver ***:All rats in the control group died within 30 h after *** rates in the ω-3 PUFA group were 20/20 at 30 h and 4/20 1 wk after *** weight/body weight ratios and liver weights increased significantly in the ω-3 PUFA *** structure of sinusoidal endothelial cells and space of Disse was greatly restored in the ω-3 PUFA group compared to the control group after *** the ω-3 PUFA group,interleukin(IL)-4 and IL-10 levels were significantly increased whereas IL-6 and tumor necrosis factor-levels were dramatically *** addition,activation of protein kinase B(Akt) and of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 signaling pathway were identified at an earlier time after PH in the ω-3 PUFA ***:Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids may prevent acute liver failure and promote liver regeneration after 90% hepatectomy in rats.

On January 13,2022,Zhuhai CDC received a notification that a coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)case was found in the fever clinic in nearby Zhongshan *** CDC promptly carried out large-scale population screening in three nearby counties.A total of 4 COVID-19 cases were found in Nanping County.34 cases were screened from close contacts,and 2 cases were reported from close contacts in other cities of Guangdong *** 20 cases were sequenced by Guangdong CDC and identified as the variant of concern(VOC)/Omicron variant *** January 14,Zhuhai has carried out 8 rounds of nucleic acid screening for COVID-19 in the county where the cases *** large-scale nucleic acid screening tests for COVID-19 were conducted across the city,and no new community cases were reported after January 15.

Objective To investigate the protein expression profiles of the major food‐borne pathogen Campylobacter jejuni *** Membrane and soluble cellular proteins were extracted from the genome‐sequenced *** strain *** expression profiles were determined using two‐dimensional gel electrophoresis（2‐DE）.All the detected spots on the 2‐DE map were subjected to matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry（MALDI‐TOF/TOF） *** A total of 537 and 333 spots were detected from the whole cell and membrane‐associated proteins of *** NCTC11168 cultured on Columbia agar medium at 42 ℃ by 2‐DE and Coomassie Brilliant Blue staining,*** of whole cell and membrane‐associated proteins included 399 and 133 spots,respectively,which included 182 and 53 functional proteins identified by MALDI‐TOF/TOF *** The comprehensive expression protein profiles of *** NCTC11168 obtained in this study will be useful for elucidating the roles of these proteins in further pathogenesis investigation.
