Neuroprotective effect of Paeoniae Radix Rubra on hippocampal CA1 region of mice induced by transient focal cerebral ischemia via anti-gliosis and anti-oxidant activity

Objective: Stroke is the second leading cause of death worldwide. This study aimed to investigate the neuroprotective effect of Paeoniae Radix Rubra(PRR) on ischemic stroke of ***: The focal ischemic stroke model was produced via middle cerebral artery occlusion. The experimental mice were divided into four groups: vehicle-sham group, PRR-sham group, vehicle-ischemia group, and PRR-treated ischemia group. The cerebral infarction volume was detected with TTC *** number of neurons in the hippocampal CA1 of the ischemic side, and the activation of astrocytes and microglia were observed via immunohistochemical staining. Western blotting was used to determine the expression changes of SOD1, SOD2, and Catalase protein levels in the ***: PRR significantly reduced the cerebral infarct volume induced by ischemic injury and inhibited the astrocytes and microglia activation in the hippocampal CA1 region. The decreased levels of SOD1,SOD2, and Catalase that was induced by ischemic reperfusion were simultaneously improved after PRR ***: PRR improved neuronal injuries that were induced by transient cerebral ischemia via inhibiting gliosis and elevating anti-oxidants.

Mycobacterium tuberculosis(MTB) remains one of the world’s most successful pathogens,inf ecting one-third of *** rodents are rarely clinically affected by mycobacteriosis,they can serve as potential reservoirs of MTB for wildlife,domestic animals and ***,we in vestigated the prevalence of Mycobacteria in the wild plateau zokor(Myospalax baileyi),a rodent species endemic in *** May 2010,a total of nine wild plateau zokors with no clinical signs of mycobacteriosis w ere caught in the Haibei Alpine Meadow Ecosystem Research Station,Northwest Institute of Plate au Biology,Chinese Academy of Sciences,Qinghai province,*** dissection,the lungs wer e removed,homogenized and decontaminated,and then the treated homogenate samples were inocu lated for Mycobacteria ***,three isolates,namely,JSA11006,JSA11010 and JSA11028,were successfully ***11006 was identified as Mycobacterium setense,and JSA11028 was identified as Mycobacterium ***11010 was categorized as MTB,belonging to the Beijing genotype family with Spoligo International Type number = 1,and its variable number of t andem repeats profile was 2-3-4-3-4-3-3-4-3-7-4-4-4-2-5-1-5-3-3-4-4-6-3-3,as defined by the numbe r of tandem repeats in MIRU02,Mtub04,ETRC,MIRU04,MERU40,MIRU10,MIRU16,Mtub21,MIRU20,QUB11 b,ETRA,Mtub29,Mtub30,ETRB,MIRU23,MIRU24,MIRU26,MIRU27,Mtu b34,MIRU31,Mtub39,QUB26,QUB4156 and *** the best of our knowledge,this is the first report of an MTB infection in plateau zokor,and this species may be an important reservoir for MTB and a zoonotic threat to humans and oth er animals.
