Objective:To investigate the anti-senescence effect of 3-bromo-4,5-dihydroxybenzaldehyde(BDB)from Polysiphonia morrowii Harvey in human dermal fibroblasts(HDF).Methods:HDF were subjected to treatment of BDB and then treated with hydrogen peroxide(H2O2)to induce premature ***-associatedβ-galactosidase(SA-β-gal)activity in HDF was determined using the SA-β-gal staining *** reactive oxygen species(ROS)production was measured using the 2’,7’-dichlorodihydrofluorescein diacetate *** blotting assay was performed to assess the level of antioxidant enzyme glutathione peroxidase 1(GPX1).In addition,intracellular collagen and collagenase contents were analyzed using the respective ELISA *** activity in HDF supernatants was measured from p-nitroaniline release and normalized using total protein ***:Treatment of HDF with H2O2 increased the activity of SA-β-gal,but BDB pre-treatment resulted in the reduction of SA-β-gal ***,BDB significantly reduced H2O2-induced intracellular ROS *** also markedly increased the level of GPX1,which was inhibited by 400μM of ***,in in vitro study,BDB significantly increased intracellular collagen content and decreased matrix metalloproteinase-1 and elastase activities in ***:Our results demonstrate that BDB shows antisenescence and anti-wrinkle activities in vitro.

Despite the advancement within the last decades in the field of smart grids,energy consumption forecasting utilizing the metrological features is still *** paper proposes a genetic algorithm-based adaptive error curve learning ensemble(GA-ECLE)*** proposed technique copes with the stochastic variations of improving energy consumption forecasting using a machine learning-based ensembled approach.A modified ensemble model based on a utilizing error of model as a feature is used to improve the forecast *** approach combines three models,namely CatBoost(CB),Gradient Boost(GB),and Multilayer Perceptron(MLP).The ensembled CB-GB-MLP model’s inner mechanism consists of generating a meta-data from Gradient Boosting and CatBoost models to compute the final predictions using the Multilayer Perceptron network.A genetic algorithm is used to obtain the optimal features to be used for the *** prove the proposed model’s effectiveness,we have used a four-phase technique using jeju island’s real energy consumption *** the first phase,we have obtained the results by applying the CB-GB-MLP *** the second phase,we have utilized a GA-ensembled model with optimal *** third phase is for the comparison of the energy forecasting result with the proposed ECL-based *** fourth stage is the final stage,where we have applied the GA-ECLE *** obtained a mean absolute error of 3.05,and a root mean square error of *** experimental results are provided,demonstrating the superiority of the proposed GA-ECLE model over traditional ensemble models.

Abundances of the fireworm Hermodice carunculata were counted through a monitoring assessment study of fish cages in Barranco Hondo（NE Tenerife）. Seven campaigns were conducted from November 2007 to June 2010 and temporal variations were found, as well as differences among sampling stations. The polychaete H. carunculata obtained its highest abundance in sediments beneath fish cages throughout the study period. Thus, the assemblages of this omnivorous species were favoured by the presence of fish cages.

A new record of the rhacophorid frog, Theloderma licin is reported from Gunung Serambu, in the Bau region of western Sarawak, East Malaysia, which comprises the first published record of the species from the Sundaic island of Borneo. The species was previously known from the Malay Peninsula （southern Peninsular Thailand and Peninsular Malaysia）. Species of Theloderma are widespread in mainland and insular Southeast Asia, their arboreal habits perhaps contributing to our perception of rarity.

Creating a crop-heterogeneous system by intraspecific mixtures of different rice varieties can substantially reduce blast diseases. Such variety mixtures provide an ecological approach for effective disease control, maintaining high yields with the minimum fungicide applications. Whether such an approach is universally applicable for random rice variety combinations and what is the variation pattern of the diseases under intercropping still remains unclear. We conducted two-year large-scale field experiments involving 47 rice varieties/lines and 98 variety-combinations to compare the occurrence of rice blast in monoculture and intercropping plots at multiple sites. In the experiments, the plant height of the selected tradi- tional varieties was about 30 cm taller, and their life cycle was 10 days longer, than that of the improved rice varieties. The monoculture included either traditional or modern rice varieties grown in separate plots. The intercropping included both traditional and modern rice varieties planted together in the same plots. Results from the field experiments under natural disease conditions demonstrated significant reduction for rice blast disease in intercropping plots, compared with that in monoculture plots. For traditional varieties, the average blast incidence reduced from -26% in monoculture to -10% in intercropping, and the disease severity reduced from -17 in monoculture to -5 in intercropping. For modern varieties, the average blast incidence reduced from -19% in monoculture to -10% in intercropping, and the severity from -10 in mono- culture to -4 in intercropping. Traditional rice varieties （-72%） had a much greater increase in the efficiency of disease control than modern varieties （-60%）. In addition, substantially lower values of variance in the blast incidence and severity was detected among the variety combinations in intercropping plots than in monoculture plots. The effects of elevated CO2 on foliar chemistry of two tree species （Populus pseudo-simonii Kitag. and Betula platyphylla） and on growth of gypsy moth （Lymantria dispar L.） larvae were examined. Furthermore, we focused on the comparison of results on the growth responses of larvae obtained from two methods of insect rearing, the nochoice feeding trial performed in the laboratory or in situ in open-top chambers. On the whole, both primary and secondary metabolites in the leaves of the two tree species were significantly affected by main effects of time （sampling date）, CO2 and species. Elevated CO2 significantly increased the C： N ratio and concentrations of the soluble sugar, starch, total nonstructural carbohydrates, total phenolics and condensed tannins, but significantly decreased the concentration of nitrogen. Higher contents of total phenolics and condensed tannins were detected in the frass of larvae reared in elevated CO2 treatments. Overall, the growth of gypsy moth larvae were significantly inhibited by elevated CO2 and CO2- induced changes in leaf quality. Our study did not indicate the two methods of insect rearing could influence the direction of effects of elevated CO2 on the growth of individual insects; however, the magnitude of negative effects of elevated CO2 on larval growth did differ between the two insect rearing methods, and it seems that the response magnitude was also mediated by larval age and host plant species.

Harmful algal blooms (HABs), caused by the overgrowth of certain phytoplankton species, have negative effects on marine environments and coastal fisheries. In addition to cell-counting methods using phytoplankton nets, a hydroacoustic technique based on acoustic backscattering has been proposed for the detection of phytoplankton blooms. However, little is known of the acoustic properties of HAB species. In this study, as essential data to support this technique, we measured the acoustic properties of two HAB species, Akashiwo sanguinea and Alexandrium affine, which occur in the South Sea off the coast of Korea. Due to the small size of the target, we used ultrasound for the measurements. Experiments were conducted under laboratory and field conditions. In the laboratory experiment, the acoustic signal received from each species was directly proportional to the cell abundance. We derived a relationship between the cell abundance and acoustic signal received for each species. The measured signals were compared to predictions of a fluid sphere scattering model. When A. sanguinea blooms appeared at an abundance greater than 3 500 cells/mL, the acoustic signals varied with cell abundance, showing a good correlation. These results confirm that acoustic measurements can be used to detect HAB species.
